No. I just put a large plastic funnel in the back of mine, and all the satellite signals just fall into it from space.

There is £7 delivery on this...OP should have put that in the description...however use code HUMAXBD1 knocks 10% off taking it down to £89.10 plus £7 delivery = £96.10. Just buy it, I cannot see Humax Direct having a Black Friday sale on their refurbs or for that matter any cheaper becoming available.

To put it into context, 3 years ago we got the 1TB of this receiver for £160 from Bargain Crazy, was mint condition with protective sellophane still over the unit. The box had no inner packaging pieces although the unit was sensibly bubble wrapped inside of the box.

Now that was when the 1TB units retail price was £250, it was a stellar deal 3 years ago and only around the last 6 months have we been seeing graded 1TB units now at Humax Direct being £139 (£132.10 delivered with 10% code)

So £96.10 for a 500gb unit is a real good deal unless you could do with more storage capacity for recording. If so it would be worth considering the 1TB unit and particularly the white 1010S as it has inbuilt wifi if needed, the 1TB 1000S does not.

When will this firmware be available to the public? This is the first mention I've seen of netflix on these boxes.

I was planning on getting an ariel instaled and going down the youview route for th sake of not having to get a seperate box for netflix but if this is getting netflix it'll save me having to shell out for an ariel.

As said earlier, it is irrelevant as I am not remotely interested in receiving 25.5, there have however been reports on various satellite forums on people being able to fringe receive from 25.5 Eutelsat, whether or not there have been signal changes more recently or not I do not know or simply really care to research into.

With caution you can. Although they fixed it with the latest firmware update, the one from around June if I remember the date correctly, actually broke the vendor ID support for certain Edimax Ralink chipset dongles including my own. Humax certainly are under no obligation to support third party vendor IDs and I am glad they rectified...but it is a cautionary tale for anyone considering a third party dongle...there are no guarantees for the future.

Thanks for the heads up R1Zia was going to get HDR-1100S 1YB (£219) to replace my old Humax Foxsat (which still gives excellent HD pics but no recording and old menu display) but after your heads up and after nosing about in the Managers special sectrion opted for HDR-1010S instaed (£40 more that the HDR - 1000S 500GB)) but ups from 500GB to 1TB and build in Wi-Fi; £80 less than the lateast HDR-1100S and I can't see what the spec difference is?

Smaller, no LCD display and SCART socket...otherwise functions the same. To be honest I don't see why a smaller version seems necessary, most people have a device on a dedicated shelf under their tv and this old version is hardly a tank of a device...it certainly is smaller than the V+ Box we ditched.

Yes as I am sure you know the footprint is the pattern that will give you the best reception with the most economically sized dish and if you get on the edge of the footprint a bigger dish will bring in enough signal to hit the LNB and provide a picture but the 25.5 MENA footprint gets know where near the UK so no dish however big will get a signal.
Yes we do get dish size problems in Spain especially since the new satellites became operational and with the narrow beam signals that they are using it means I am using a 1.85 dish and for some of the transponders it's very difficult even then, but thankfully by changing post code input I can go onto transponders that have a better footprint and improved signal/picture quality. Had to do this to get ITV HD but still can not get Channel 4 HD. Sky is a lot better because most of that is on Pan European beam and can mostly be seen on a 1.5 dish.

Central England however It's irrelevant as I do not wish to even attempt to reach it, but just because a satellite has a footprint does not mean it cannot be reached outside of its footprint using a larger dish to pull in fringe reception, horizon coverage permitting.

As you are in Benidorm I am sure it is a struggle pulling in some of the Astra 28 transponders outside of their footprint, and you are reliant on dish size.
soldierboy001
24 Nov 15 #101
If the footprint does not reach you then it does not matter what size dish you use , even you should know that.
Where are you?
cicobuff
24 Nov 15 #100
Depends on your size of dish your line of sight in the sky and proximity whether you can reach it or whether it is reachable to you. I certainly would not attempt bothering with a 1.2m dish upwards for it for sure!

soldierboy001
24 Nov 15 #96
I don't have or need a motorised dish, I have three dishes pointing at 28.2, 19.2 and 25.5 and this is cheaper and less hassle than putting up a motorised dish and allows me to watch the footy whilst able to record from my other dishes. Admittedly not everybody has the room to do this, but quite a lot of us in Spain do and certain coastal areas are facing the right way to point dishes at the satellites we Brits are interested in.
cicobuff
24 Nov 15 #95
I am well aware owning a motorised dish what is possible, including CCCam, IKS and IPTV. If they are not protecting their intellectual property abroad then really there is no reason for them providing it free via DVB-T and not via Astra Satellite, it really would make no sense...so I disagree with you and agree with what has been stated.

cicobuff
24 Nov 15 1 #90
It is a twin tuner, but I believe you can still go through the installation configuration ok with a single feed...obviously not being able to record more than one channel at a time.

It does state so in [this article]....

If you were a Sky subscriber previously, chances are that the satellite dish and the leads that connect to it are compatible with the Humax device. You can connect a single feed or preferably two to your Humax HDR-1010S without any installation costs if this is the case. Two feeds are best so you can record two programmes simultaneously or record one channel while viewing another.

I live in Benidorm and get Freesat and could get Sky but will not pay their subscription fees.
Everything, nearly, is possible and I can get all the Premier League football matches live, which you can't get in the UK, mainly because the footprint does not reach you.

24 Nov 15 #79
That is not the case at all why.

I already found and posted the answer earlier in this thread.

The main reason for this is that the satellite signals are available over most of Europe, and without encryption, would be freely available to other countries, where the broadcasters in these countries may have also paid for the broadcast rights to those programmes, reducing their “Exclusivity” deals in those countries.

That makes perfect sense why it is available unencrypted via DVB-T Freeview and not via Freesat, whereby Astra 28E can be received on varying sized dishes over mainland Europe.

24 Nov 15 #77
Because Sky has a contract with Dave for satellite distribution of their program and Sky knowing how popular Dave is will not give up Dave hoping to retain viewers because of this fact. So no chance of getting Dave Free To View on satellite whilst Sky retains Dave.

Yeah sorry I am talking rubbish and stand corrected. I have a freeview Humax box and this is clearly a freesat Humax box. The main point still stands that Humax boxes are super reliable and stand the test of time, unlike cheaper brands.
noahsdad
23 Nov 15 #48
I have had this box for 2-3 years now with no problems. After going through many different brands of freeview boxes before, all crashed and died except for this Humax box. That is why people like the Humax so much, reliability. Good price and hot deal.

What you need to know... it never gets updated, even though it has the online facility to do so, Humax just neglect that side of things. And while you get BBC I Player, there is no 4 on Demand, 5 on Demand, ITV Catchup player which is poor. All of course easily added to your TV anyway via other options. The YouTube app is poor, a lot of the videos just don't play. There is loads of apps that are pointless or just tat really. But for a reliable freeview box that won't crash and die and lose all your favourite recorded movies and TV shows, this is a safe investment!
HankHandsome to noahsdad

My 1000S has 4 on Demand and Demand 5 as well.
Wotan to noahsdad
23 Nov 15 #54
Is there really no 4OD etc on these? I rejoined sky because I basically got a really good deal (which will cost me £65 for the year) and as it worked out cheaper than buying one of these (which was the original plan) then I went with it. But once it's up I planned to buy one of these. A bit disappointed there's no Netflix but just automatically assumed they would have access to all on demand.

Edited to add. The description says it has all on demand content including 4OD and 5 on demand. Plus YouTube.

Long time advocate of these Humax Freesat boxes. Have (and still own) 2 of the previous versions, and have had this type for the past year or so. This version is a little quicker and smoother than the previous models but they are all way better than the competition. For this price (a couple of months of top $ky subscription), just buy one. If, like me, you sit down for 10 mins a week and go through the planner and record (and series link too) for the coming week, you'll probably find and build up a schedule of programs to watch, enough maybe to ditch sky for good (like I did 5 years ago)

They call them 'gift.' Because 'illegal sky card sharing' is a bit of a giveaway.

There is plenty of forums though where you can learn all about it. I was considering an enigma2 box or this box when I quit sky so read up on all things possible with the enigma boxes. Which included CS. Obviously not something I took up as I rejoined sky.

Decided on this as the enigmas don't seem to have any catch up facilities that actually work (this was almost a year ago though so that could have changed now). Which was a deal breaker for me.

Well I certainly have not tried Virgin's latest box or BT etc, but compared to other Freesat boxes and the Virgin V+ box we ditched I find it far from basic or clunky with well defined menus, a fantastic EPG and decent phone and tablet integration.

not really, no. you do miss out on a few but I don't think it's that many.

these boxes are also apparently getting an update at some point that will add netflix

I have this exact model I'm sure about the menus. It's fine just basic and clunky. works well enough though.

Does Freesat get more channels than the Humax Terrestrial boxes offer?

Can you use your Sky HD dish with these?
cicobuff to gordo1964

Yes. Providing you have at least a twin LNB from your dish, I use a MK4 Sky Dish with an Octo LNB just fine.
HankHandsome to gordo1964
23 Nov 15 #6
yes you can - I do with mine. you can also cast the output of the YouTube app to it as well and it works in exactly the same way as the chromecast for that - it's the reason I got rid of mine!

If you had sky HD, or sky plus, then yes, the dish will work with this

Example of a Quad LNB, notice its four F Plug outputs.
