There's gains and losses, no headset spanner in the new tool kit.

New essential tool kit doesn't look any better, doesn't look any worse either overall. Just a refresh I guess.

It looks a lot better to me. There's now a hollowtech bottom bracket cup removal tool, the chain whip is separate from the pedal spanner not awkwardly joined like with the old one, and there's a socket wrench tool which I think was missing from the old one.
Thanks OP collected one of each £25 locally. Ordered Friday. Neither are on the Website any more links return a 404 the man in the shop said they have a new range coming out new packaging and tools (different mix of tools) but not a lot of difference. Seems good at this price. Used TCB for the click and collect, will wait to see if this tracks.
As its not on the website might be worth updating the post to reflect this change to in store only call before you visit. Not sure what the product codes are though this is what was listed on my order:
Halfords Essential Bike Tool Kit £10.00
Bikehut Bike Tool Kit £15.00

I collected mine today, its got sticker that it was always £10 I feel cheated now.
I managed to part with another £7 while I was in there on some screwdrivers. Bought because of a lifetime guarantee promise. Not discounted but a good deal so not added to hot deals.

I reserved this at £17 a few days ago and picked it up yesterday. The guy never mentioned it has gone down to £10 so paid £17. Feel annoyed that it's down to a £10 now

Yep collected mine and seems to be equal if not better than some sets around £20-40. Made in Taiwan not China although I suspect some of the smaller less critical parts are Chinese. Generally with socket sets the Taiwanese are better than mainland China and I suspect the same is true here. Would definitely recommend if you find stock in your area.

This is a reasonably good buy but its worth noting some of the tools especially in the first kit are a bit defunct if you own a newer bike.
Personally I would buy the tools you really need separately, it may cost a little bit more but you can get away with spending less on tools that get light use like chain wear indicators and more on the tools that need to be strong like chain tools, bottom bracket tools and wire cutters.
I assume it's the newer version, but either way I'm happy with it as it has much more and better tools. Quality seems excellent and it has a lifetime guarantee.
I normally get the out of stock email with halfords deals!

does the bikehut kit contain the tools for replacing a bottom bracket? Thx
The order picklist was cellotaped over the front of the packaging and since I picked it up on the way home from work, even though I knew something wasn't right, I didn't check till I got home :disappointed: Checked online again and they now have no stock....Is it wrong to wonder how many of their staff bought them :/ Feel a right idiot for even walking out of the shop with it.

For people in Aberdeen: they're marked OOS on the Website, but I was in the Kittybrewster store at 5pm and there was an Essential tool kit priced £10 in the bargain basket near the counter. It might still be there for the taking.

Sorry - Cold. Yes it's a great offer - except it's not available for delivery, it's not available for Click & Collect, and it's not available in any store within 50 miles of me.
IOW - Halfords are sucking us in to a non existent offer. Great marketing & advertising, crap deal.

To be fair these kits are pretty much defunct as most of the tools would be covered in most peoples standard tool kits, the only things that are really specific are the bottom bracket tool and the chain spliter, but hey if you are tool free then would be a good buy

I have the essentials one - quality is a bit ropey. I don't have remotely strong hands, but I accidentally managed to bend the chain splitter on first use. The tyre levers are xmas cracker toy quality. There's only so much useful stuff in there, to be honest. The allen keys, screwdrivers and spanners are all things that most people would already have. If you've got a Shimano Hollowtech bottom bracket and cranks then you'll need a couple of extra tools for those. The only things in my kit that really get any use now are the chain whip and the cassette tool. In all fairness, they're probably getting on for a tenner's worth on their own, so it's pretty good at this price. Less so at £30 or whatever it normally is.

The essentials kit looks like better value than the bikehut one- it has a better range of tools. There's not even a chain whip for removing sprockets in the bikehut kit- the cheapest one on its own at Halfords is £8.
The Y-shaped allen key and sockets take up a lot of space in the bikehut set, but their design seems pretty pointless. Not exactly compact for carrying on the move.
