Not a bad price for a quadcore phone that will do general tasks and games. Perfect xmas present for children to play on if wanting a phone. Is open box but is in pristine condition.

The GPS does work on the Doogee X5 Pro without a data connection, I just received mines, download OsmAnd and the UK map at the google playstore, switch the phone into aeroplane plane (turns all cell and wifi off), turn on GPS (still on aeroplane mode) and you still get a GPS fix within seconds.
GPS fix verified within OsmAND and GPS Status app.

The GPS fix does not work on the Doogee, I and many others have tried several fixes regarding this problem. The GPS will only work with a constant data connection, not everyone wants to use all their data when using their phone as a Satnav. Satellite navigation works by standalone GPS, that is how the GSMART works, just like all the other reputable brands sold in the UK.

The GSMART is in a totally different category regarding quality, brand and manufacture, the phone original cost £130 on the Shopping channels, that is where Misco get most of their open box units from (customer returns etc).

You don't need to compromise when buying the GSMART, its NOT sold as new like the cheap Doogee's (the GSMART is open box) hence the low price. Its nothing to do with the phone being £31, you are making a saving compared to the original selling price.

Basically! any mobile phone or Tablet that has no brand name, or a name that is not known or sold here in the UK, its best to stay clear.

I'm not giving anyone "wrong information" it was an opinion that was asked for, and that's what was given. It isn't a case of him not needing GPS, more a case of being in an area with decent coverage. I wasn't even aware it was an issue until you mentioned it! A quick google and I'd found that;

A. There is a fix for it, and...
B. It works fine over a data connection.

Rendering your initial statement about it not working at all rather hyperbolic. The camera is fine for a phone under forty quid too. But that's subjective I suppose. I have to wonder quite why you're getting yourself so worked up about it.

Phones in this price bracket are all about compromise. I've not tried the Gsmart, is it better in the hand? Maybe, but on paper they're more than comparable. The Doogee's got a newer OS, larger battery, double the storage capacity... But to be honest - on the screen alone - I'd still go for the X5. Enjoy your Gsmart.

5 Nov 15 #60
Have to disagree with you there, the camera on the GSMART is far better than the Doogee, the Doogee has poor image quality and terrible camera lag, the GSMART has NO camera lag and the image quality is perfect.

GPS works great on the GSMART and you don't need any data connection, you can use the GSMART as a standalone Satnav, something the Doogee cannot do, due to always needing a constant data connection.

You cant go singing the Doogee's praises and giving other members wrong information, just because your son doesn't need GPS, that doesn't mean all us HUKD members dont either. :smirk:

5 Nov 15 #59
It feels well built, the battery cover is a bit creaky I suppose, but with a gel cover on it's fine. I've not noticed the GPS not working, I think as long as you have a data connection it's fine. He's only 9, he isn't taking it out over the Dales.

I'll sort of agree with you on the camera,(I'd say serviceable rather than appalling) but chances are it's not going to be much better on the Gsmart. and the Doogee has a nicer screen.

I got his on eBay. Made an offer at £30 and got a counter offer for £32.

5 Nov 15 #58
Build quality is questionable, and the GPS does not work on the Doogee, and the camera is appalling.

At the moment- No

There have been better deals, like this one:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/vodafone-smart-4-turbo-white-tesco-direct-quadcore-lte-5mp-1gb-ram-30-2312346

Better CPU, UK design and support and probably wont turn into a fireball when you charge it.

But not available. If you could spend abit more, it would open up a world of better devices.

I spent £85, and the time frame was actually about 5 years. I have purchased the alctael at the begining of the year, and the huawei about a month ago. I caused water damage to the samsung about a year half ago, but ironically after leaving it, it now initially powers on, but doesn't get past the samsung startup logo. I purchased the alcatel, as i wanted a second phone, as i had my cubot as the main one. Then the cubot charging port got broke. So I purchased the huawei on a upgrade.

Well said Das! My issue is that I bought an £80 phone and it broke. And it's replacement broke...so £40 seems sensible now. I cannot justify spending more on a phone that will get dropped.
das5665
4 Nov 15 #44
Don't mock people if they are financially strict. Maybe they dont want to spend lots on a phone and can go on with a £30 one and that will serve them well

smellyonion
4 Nov 15 #40
You effectively spent £80 over a few years on cheap smartphones, which you soon discovered, were not functional. Where as you couldve spent that money on one better device and revieved years of better functionality which is priceless.
smellyonion
4 Nov 15 #39
Exactly, people are different. I too prefer slightly older flagship tech but understand that I can acheive very simialr functionality for half the cost.

This however is bordering not functional with that internal storage, display and other quirks.
leeparsons
4 Nov 15 #38
Again it's all about age of the person who is buying this. The older you are, you be less likely want to keep up with the jones'es. Some of us have had medical condition's, which associated with mobile phone's, means we dont value them to highly.
leeparsons
4 Nov 15 #37
Sorry, i don't think you grasp what a mobile was actually intend for. All this other crap, that we have add, is extras. If you go into the high street shop, your spend a minimum of £10-20 on a phone that belongs back with the brick phone of the 80's. I bought a samsung mini a few years back now (probably 3), and I paid £40 for it. Was suppose to be great at the time, but infact wasnt that great. This phone is 20 times better than it. The cpu is fairly fast, better than my alcatel s3 5050 which cost me £25 and Huawei Y360 that cost me £15.
Phones break, all the time. The phone my parents got me xmas 2 years ago, has had its micro usb port broke. This will be expensive to fix, in comparison to the value of the phone. So why spend so much, when most manufacture dont even put things like that under there guarantees.
I guess you are showing your age, and dont understand the vlaue of money, and what better things you can do with a £80
mynameisthehulk
4 Nov 15 #36
It is good value. It is a servicable smartphone for £30. If £30 is your budget you will struggle to find any better. You have made a decision at where the "sweet spot" lies for you and thats awesome, it's your call. For me its about getting a flagship device around 12-18 months after release on a decent deal so around the £300 mark for a device originally priced around the £550 mark. For others there is less scope and as such if you want a smartphone but you have got less than £50 then this is an excellent option.
smellyonion
4 Nov 15 #35
Then obviously buy this.....it doesn't make it good value,
smellyonion
4 Nov 15 #34
there are so many better devices £80-£100, That's the sweet spot for pricing. Where you get decent functionality for a decent price. Thats the best value. Yes it is my opinion.

Following the crowd is renewing an iphone contract every two years.
Following the crowd is believing this is good value- omg 5 inch SCREEN!!, QUAD Core....whereas in reality its got a PPI that belongs on a casio watch and a GPU from 2011.

And no, I do not agree with your points about having to spend £100 + for specs like this and neither will phones cost 1/4 within the year- Thats would mean, an iphone 6 is now £100?
mynameisthehulk
4 Nov 15 #33
What if you havent got £80? Not everyone still lives at home with mum aged 40 so they can play games all day long.
leeparsons
4 Nov 15 1 #32
Please show us this then for £80.
Have you consider that people, don't want to spend a fortune on something that would be worth 1/4 of the price within a year? Also they might not be trying to follow the in crowd as you are?
If you walk into any store on the high street, you wont get near anything like this for a £100 + plus. I think your logically argument is flawed to say the least, as you not proven your response back with evidence, but only your personal opinion.
smellyonion
4 Nov 15 1 #31
You can't, but it doesn't detract from my point thats its a poor phone for low money.

I would see a usable 720p device with 16 gb rom at £80 far better value than this since it will give you an infinitely better experience for £50 over the course of its life.

These specs are bad, yes it's £30 but you get what you pay for.

That resolution at that size will look like a mess, like a crt screen.

Slow quad core and ancient gpu, put things into context, the Mali 400 was used in the galaxy s2, the quadcore version in the s3. This is the dual core so it's in-between the galaxy s2 and s3, it's ancient!! So don't count on games.

Not that you can install them anyway with 4gb rom. Perhaps 2 gb accessible to user.

And that sensor is a Chinese Fisher price one. All other companies use imx Sonys this won't.

Well, 2GB ROM would be bad and unheard of these days. I'd agree 4GB ROM is to be expected but that doesn't make it good. I use a phone with 4GB ROM and it severely limits how many apps I can install. It's very bad in my opinion.
