Cracking bike for the price, I bought last years model and it is faultless
Giant's leading aluminium engineers have crafted the Giant Defy 3 2015 to blend comfort and performance.
With an endurance focused geometry the Giant Defy 3 places you in a comfortable, up-right riding position that remains comfortable for hours while the seat stays and Advanced-Grade Composite Fork reduce vibrations to help prevent fatigue.
Defy 3 isn't all comfort and no power, with an OverDrive headtube and steerer for sharp handling and a massive PowerCore oversized bottom bracket area the Defy is stiff, efficient and a real blast to ride.
Equipped to this brilliant frame is a selection of quality components including an 18 Speed Shimano Sora groupset with a wide, usable range of gears that helps you push to your limits both up and down. Giant's own S-R2 wheels provide solid performance and feature DT Swiss internals for rapid engagement.
ALUXX-Grade Aluminum Frame
Advanced-Grade Composite fork with Hybrid OverDrive Steerer
Shimano Sora 18 speed drive train
Tektro TK-R312 Giant Specific, Dual Pivot brakes
Giant S-R2 wheel set
The Defy 3 is a versatile all purpose road bike suited to long days in the saddle, fast pace training blasts, or fitting mudguards and panniers for the morning work commute.

Decent winter bike/initial road bike at an excellent price. Unfortunately the wannabe Wiggins and Froomes will be aghast that there's no carbon in sight! Stop worrying about the ounces saved on a carbon drinks holder and lose a few pounds off the waistline!!

Good quality aluminium is far better than cheap poor quality carbon, which would have lesser components on it

Agree that Giant aluminium is superior to cheapo carbon. Excellent price, either a winter' bike or a genuine all-year comfortable rider for the newbie. Just excellent.

Do *NOT* use the HAVE6 code if you are using a cashback site. I made this mistake with a £700 purchase last month where I lost over £20 of cashback which was then refused because I used a discount code!

I have the 2014 version of this bike and it's a great starter bike.
As for Rutland they were great, I had a broken spoke within 1 month and as I'm not local they agreed to credit my account with the value of the spoke repair so that I could get it fixed at a local bike shop. No questions.

Son bought a bike from them and had it delivered. Front wheel needed slight truing and they very happily paid local bike shop's charge without any quibble.
Suspect they're better off without kev10 as a customer (if indeed he ever was one).

I must say they were great when I bought my MB in may. even gave me £50 extra on reward card because they didn't have it ready on the day they said. even though I didn't collect for a few days after anyway.

Gotta admire you guys for cycling in the winter on one of these.
I'm too chicken. Daily commute on a hybrid bike with fat tyres in the winter for me...

I got this bike about this time last year. It's my winter bike and it's excellent. Sora works just fine the only thing I've upgraded are the wheels which I didn't like, I put some RS10s on, which are only a budget wheel, and it vastly improved the ride. Rutland service was also very good. Don't forget Giants come up on the big side, I'm normally an XL or 58, a L in a Giant is plenty big enough.

If I was in the market for a bike at this price range I'd go for it, probably had more Giants than any other brand and never been disappointed.
I would advise anyone going for it to try one at their LBS for size as in my experience Giants come out pretty big, I'm 6'2" and large is just right for me in the Defy.
