Ye, got one last year. Quality bird. Not a bit dry. Didn't get one this year- only reason, I happened to be in farmfoods, and they had Bernard Matthews at £7.50, and smaller than I got last year ( had complaints of Turkey every meal, ha) , so picked one up as I was there, but yes, pleased with quality.

A friend of mine had one last year said it was fine, although he did say he had never tried eating a supermarket!

It's amazing. Having this each Xmas as a tradition instead of turkey, always from Lidl.

Overated bird.....better off with a local organic chicken any day.

Geese are very slow to grow and are usually raised on grass, so although not 'organic' should at least be free range. I don't know how they can make a profit at this price - maybe the drop in the euro has brought xmas benefits !

if you enjoy having the oven on for 4 hours, basting constantly, ruining your oven in the process and then realising your original 4.2kg bird has now no more meat than a 1.5kg chicken, and that all your guests are going to leave hungry, then this is the bird for you.
On the plus side, you'll be left with 2 litres of goose fat to make some of the best roasties you've ever eaten!

You beat me to it - 4.2kg including 2kg of fat...

Not another wild goose chase... Or are these farmed geese?

5 Nov 15#30
If that was true it'd be great, but I'd be very surprised if farmers haven't figured out how to grow them intensively in sheds, as with other poultry!
Anybody know for sure?

Fed up of Turkey. I was thinking of getting a goose so this might be what I was looking for. Goose and a nice rib of beef for Christmas this year

I used to keep geese and they were hard to breed but also not so popular so harder to find the market. I expect these are battery reared in some way otherwise they wouldn't be cheap. Remember what the French do to geese to get fois gras!

Tesco have had frozen Geese in the freezer section for the past month or so. £15.
The brand is LAKELAND.
Weight 4kgs minimum (mine weighed 4.4kgs).
The geese are bred and packed in Hungary to a very high standard. We adore goose and have eaten them all across northern and eastern Europe. This one is totally delicious.
Tesco's Lakeland whole geese can be found in the freezer section. We are on our third one this weekend since we spotted them last month! A fab treat - absolutely delicious.
When preparing the goose for roasting, it is very important to gently stab them with a fork horizontally (not vertically) to allow the fat to ooze out into the tray without piercing the meat which loses juices and dries out the meat.

They're sure to flock (to Tesco) and forget the actual retailer.

Well huggychair, I can confirm that all the Tesco ones look very neat and tidy in the freezer section.
Lidl ones in their awful old style chest freezers look more higgle-de-piggedly (MUCH like the rest of Lidl imho).
I had a choice at Tesco of 2 available self-service checkout tills or one of several cashier checkouts with no more than one or two customers in the lines. The last time I went to Lidl, they had only 2 tills working for 15 people in one queue and 12 in my one (the ''shorter'' queue!) with at least 3 staff visible nearby doing nothing much, if anything at all. Sorry, Lidl simply does not cut it against a major supermarket like Tesco for people who value having a real choice of a huge products range - vs Lidl's extremely limited choices of mostly unbranded products ....................

This. Thanks for reminding me why I don't go to Lidl. I keep forgetting and going back in.

Ditto the above, I shop at Tesco because I don't like the experience of shopping in Lidl's. Tesco offer more choice in an environment that is just nicer to do your shopping in. I don't exactly enjoy shopping in any supermarket, but I actually dislike shopping at Lidl.
