Realistically equivalent to £225 a month - still cheaper than the depreciation you'd suffer in buying one. While it's under warranty, I wouldn't concern myself too much with perceived reliability - Ford will be picking up the tab for anything that isn't wear and tear. Just enjoy it for what it is, one of the nimblest little hot hatches of its size. If you enjoy putting your foot down a lot, expect to get 60% of the claimed mpg (same for any modern car with stop-start).
10111010101011 to monkeyhanger75

A 1.6 turbo engine in a fiesta and its called ecoboost to make it sound modern and enviro friendly,I call it a rebranded fiesta RS turbo from the early 90s
stevenprior1 to Biggunspaul

a think a engine and all the new tech from 2015 is alot better than in the rs days so it mor eco and ye get alot better miles out of it. so its nothing like an rs from the 90s.
oddballjamie to Biggunspaul

EcoBoost is the brand name for Ford's turbo-charged engines, in the US they do a 3.5 litre! Although not in a Fiesta.
martyboy70 to Biggunspaul
14 Nov 15 #17
Not so much. The mk3 fiesta was a poorly reviewed dog, even in RS or XR trim. This is pretty much universally accepted as the best hot hatch of this size available.
Biggunspaul
14 Nov 15 #11
Turbocharged engines have always been more fuel efficient than NA engines, ford have just added the word Eco to make people feel better about driving a sports car.in the 80's people wanted to have the word turbo on the rear end of their car,now it's not in fashion so Eco boost replaces it.

Oh and if the word Eco is in green then that makes it even more enviro friendly
oddballjamie
14 Nov 15 #12
Most of Ford's family cars are avaliable with EcoBoost engines, hardly sports cars.
It's just branding, like Duratec and Zetec, don't get too hung up on it.

I currently own a Y Reg (2001) VW Polo, which is just coming up to 70,000 miles. However, the maintenance costs are now becoming more expensive than what the car is worth.

Having seen a few of these lease deals and not being able to afford an half decent runner outright. I'd like to ask the reasoning behind paying £5407, for a deal such as this over two years, then being left with nothing?!

Would it be suitable, with this or similar deals, for people like me who would only be able to afford a low cost, high maintenance banger outright? Sincere question.
Russonf to Rawtec
14 Nov 15 #23
I'll try to explain it simply

If you buy a new one and sell it in two years, you'll lose about 7k(give or take) from the price you paid compared with what you sell it for.
If you buy this as a used car and nothing goes wrong with it.. And the depreciation is less than 5k over two years (or the things that go wrong with it minus the depreciation is less than 5k) then you're lucky..
checkcanopy to Rawtec
14 Nov 15 2 #26
Whether you take a loan and buy it outright or finance it the depreciation is an unavoidable cost. Either way it's going to cost you about £7k plus any costs from APR. If you lease it and you pay around £5k over 2 years then it's the cheaper way of having the car for 2 years. You don't own the car but then do you really want to own a depreciating asset?

Whether you lease or finance it you still get to use it everyday. At least with lease you don't get that sinking feeling when you take it to lookers or errm webuyany car.com and have them quote you a ridiculous price.

People will compare leasing to running a used car but that's a but like comparing a new condom to a used one. It might well do the same job but there's alot more scope for something expensive to go wrong.

For the record I run a used car I just see sense in leasing cars, the only drawback for me is the limited mileage.

Thank you for your helpful information.

As can be seen from my original post, I'm not one for changing car every few years. My current one was 3 yrs old when purchased outright and my mileage per annum is low. I'm just considering another 5dr hatchback (kids) with low maintenance costs that isn't too expensive.

Just wondering if a lease deal is something that I should consider.

Great car love mine loads, however shifting it next year as I get hit with a hefty BIK charge due to the emissions.
Private lease you won't get that problem though. Decent price in all honesty for a very good car that is fun to drive and has some good features. Biggest problem I have is that at nearly 40, my back can't take feeling every bump in the road like it used to.

It sounds like your after cheap motoring as an alternative to keeping an old car running (the old way of cheap motoring!) so your in a similar circumstance to me with a 12 year old pug 206. My advice to you would be a lease deal but maybe not one that loses as much as this over the 2 years (unless you really want a sports car). If you want a cheap to run 5- door car you'd be better off with one of the many citroen c1 / citroen cactus deals posted on here. the monthly payments are only a bit less than this fiesta but tend to be between £150 and £400 deposit (depending on admin fee) so by the time your 2 years is up its less per month than this fiesta deal and as they are not sporty hot hatches it will cost you less to run than the Fiesta or your old Polo. But if you do want something with a bit of omph this Fiesta deal is great in that whilst you lose £5,400 over the two years its still less than you'd lose if you bought the car brand new and sold it in 2 years.

Most VXRs are pretty rubbish drivers cars though, whereas most STs have been stupendous drivers cars. It's no different between the Corsa VXR and this Fiesta ST. The ST is by far, far, far, far, far, far and away the better drivers car. I don't think I said far enough to emphasise how much better the Ford is.

The only thing remotely capable of what this little Ford is doing is probably the Mini Cooper S, but it's more expensive although it might depreciate better. This still drives better though and who cares about depreciation- it's a lease! Hooray!

I'm just a fan of good driver's cars, and there aren't many badged VXR. The Monaros, which aren't really a Vauxhall they are Holdens and built in Australia. The VXR220 which is basically a Lotus and that is where it was built. Finally arguably the previous generation Astra J 09- which was pretty good, albeit with better rivals.

That's it. Everything else is pretty much tosh or no match for it's rivals. The Insignia is passable I suppose. The Meriva and Zafira cobblers, the horrible Astra H, the pants Corsa D and the truly abysmal beyond belief Vectra. Ford's equivalent models have been better for quite a long time now.

The handling on mine is fantastic without the LSD and slightly stiffer suspension, the performance pack is £2400 and unnecessary in my opinion for the price vs the ever so small difference it makes - really only going to bee needed for track days. I've come from a couple of Imprezas and the VXR is surprisingly good as I wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near as good as i've found it.
martyboy70
14 Nov 15 2 #71
Yeah everybody has three or four hundred pounds a week to pay a hire company indefinitely for an equivalent car, with no guarantee they will see a penny of it back. And thats on top of the hundreds of pounds a month they're paying for the Zafira itself.

If you are in a position where you wouldn't miss £1500 a month then good on you. I'd imagine most people on here, like myself live in the real world and couldn't do what you suggest. These people are running these Zafiras because they bought a car to get them and their family about, and have no other option. It's not because they aren't "proactive". Meanwhile Vauxhall know full well they could catch light at any time, and are doing nothing about it.

Pretty sure you're trolling, and I've just bit, but your post is ridiculous.

Average monthly cost of paying finance for a relatively recent Zafira plus hiring another similar sized car.

Was a response to post 66, where Jamie reckons everyone driving Vauxhalls incendiary device on wheels should just park them up and drop £3-400 a week on a hire car while still paying for your own. Its called being proactive apparently.

Its probably more actually. This is £67 a day.

£400 a week to hire a car? I said reasonable, not a Maybach.

Whatever the cost it's less than the loss of a family member or friend, you can't put a price on it. Use the bus if money is an issue or find another form of transport.

People put their families in rafts and travel across the seas, hide out for days in containers or cling on to trains to keep their families from danger and you're complaining about a few hundred quid that will no doubt be recoverable.

Talk about first world problems.
oddballjamie
14 Nov 15 #82
There's the difference, my experience of them is on a track. I tend to keep cars a while so if I was buying one, I would pay for the PP, same as I would pay for the Mountune on the Fiesta.
Leasing is different though, extra options are just money down the drain.

Again, pretty sure you're trolling so this will be your last meal from me before you're put on ignore.

People who buy Zafiras tend to have big families (they're not the weapon of choice for a young single guy, and they're certainly not a fashion statement) so would need to hire something of equivalent size. For that you're talking £3-400 a week. A Citroën C4 is £67 a day. The school run, football practice, Brownies etc don't stop because you've bought a tinderbox when you thought you were buying an MPV. Again, people have NO OTHER OPTION but to continue to run these cars, waiting for it to serve them well done.

For most people using public transport for these things just isn't feasible because it's just not up to scratch in this country, and most people can't easily source an equivalent source of transport as you suggest. First world problem or not (we live in the first world in case you were unaware) Vauxhall are the ones who should be proactive (to use a favourite term of yours) and recall all affected cars immediately, rather than burying their head in the sand.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm looking for some advice. I'm looking to get a fiesta st, I currently have a work van so the miles done in the fiesta would be low and it would just be a bit of a weekend toy. Should I go for a lease deal like this or pick up something used (could pick up a used st2 for approx 11-12k)? Would the depreciation on a used st after 2 years be greater than this 5.5k lease?

good deal! I managed to get an st2 for £4056 (139.99 per month @ 6+23) all in with riverdale with 8k per annum and 6.26p per mile excess milege, so might be worth giving them a call too

Have come across this, hope my reply is still relevant.. You might save a bit more buying and selling but then you'll have the added costs of MOT, Tax and the bill for any repair work that needs done. A lease on a brand new would give you a fixed price over the term which many prefer. personal preference really.
