That's exactly the same thing that the British tourism industry does too... Hang on... I mean... The whole of the tourism industry world wide. It's called business, and yes it's unethical, and yes there's nowt much we can do about it.

Just a heads up that the pictures on the thread title and on the webpage are for Dubai Marina and not Deira. Don't expect to be going and seeing the new(ish) development at the Marina since Deira is up near the airport past Dubai Creek and very much the older area of Dubai. Check for metro access near the hotel since it isn't really near the attractions otherwise.

If you fancy a bit of an adventure and you can get away without taking bags - wizzair have some very cheap airfares from Sofia or Budapest to Dubai.... Around these dates you could do Stansted to Sofia on Ryanair then Sofia to Dubai on Wizz for about £160 return.

miles away this hotel and a crap one at that.. go to dubai to experience the hotels and food. if you cant afford it then you wont have the greatest of times. you can pick a fantastic hotel for these dates for 90 a night so splash out.

Deira is fine. I've stayed there before and it's really not that far to more downtown Dubai. I've also stayed on the palm and that for me was too far out even though it was very nice. Dubai in June isn't unbearable. I like it mega hot and have been there in June and August. Both months was great for me.

Bear in mind that a lot of outdoor activities close down for the summer as it's too hot.

16 Nov 15 #22
It's Ramadan- everything is closed until sunset and it's an offence to eat or drink in public until sunset. No thanks. I've actually booked but come back just before it starts. Still heat if u just want to stay in the hotel 24/7.
adam2116
16 Nov 15 #23
voting cold!

Iv been to Dubai in Ramadhan THREE Times!
Its like chevy chase in national lampoon going to wallyworld and finding it closed!

Searing heat, most places are closed or have drastically reduced opening hours and during june the heat is searing.
Most of the locals are fasting (abstaining from food and water) during daylight hours ad so service levels are'nt as high as expected.

This is so typical of Dubai Tourism industry selling cheap holidays during Ramadhan, keep the money flowing - greed?!
How about you offer these same deals throughout school holidays?

Every country charges extra in school holidays not just Dubai. It's just the way the travel industry works so can't blame them for putting a cheap holiday on during Ramadan

17 Nov 15 2 #27
I have lived in Dubai for 4 years and Ramadan doesnt really effect everyone the same. This year Ramadan will be 6th June to 5th July. As a holiday maker in a hotel environment, you will still have access to food/drink in designated areas such as hotel restaurants during the Ramadan hours (you can eat/drink during the fast, just not in front of of those that are fasting). When breaking the fast, there are many food deals to take advantage of which is always a bonus.
The only problem will be the heat.....so unless you are planning on being inside or in the pool all day, its not the best time to visit.
Plus the hotel is by the airport, the oldest (and in my opinion worst) area of Dubai. The things you see in the glossy brochures are at least a 20min taxi ride away

Restaurants closed during the day so you'll need to fork out for breakfast/lunch or eat in your room

Just for reference I went dubai for this year during the last week of May half term and got my flight with Emirates for £330 and the hotel on the palm wasn't too expensive either.
meglaman2000
17 Nov 15 #30
I used to be a waiter and complaining about the rain always went down well with English customers, but we would also have loads of Arab customers at this time of year and if you complained about the weather they would look at you like you were mad and say the cool wet weather is the reason they came to the UK and you wouldn't be asking for sun if you came from anywhere in the UAE.

The average temp in June is 40deg with extreme humidity, you will be going to Dubai to stay indoors with the aircon on.
thecynicalsaint
17 Nov 15 #31
Comments on Ramadan and the heat at this time of year are valid, but a lot of people just want to go away and lie by a pool for a week and will happily pay this much to do so in Europe. If you look at it like that it's a pretty good deal. I've been in August and every day was 40 degrees plus, everywhere is air conditioned so it wasn't such a problem, though when we were outside we struggled to do anything other than lay by the pool.

download and buy 'The Entertainer' app and tge fine dining package and also the attractions package about £130 for both.

i went this August on my honeymoon and stayed in JW Marriott Marquis - tallest hotel in the world. was very hot, 42degrees in day 39 degrees at night.

with the app you get buy one get one free on 90% of the activities in Dubai and the UAE. You will need a wifi connection or data plan but just buy one sim from airport or dubai mall ( you need passport for this) look for 'DU mobile' sim.

activities I recommend are:

- wild wadi waterpark
- royal desert safari including sand duning and quad bike and 5* dinner in the desert
- Burj Khalifa at the top (book from here in advance as you will struggle to get in)
- Dubai fountains and lake ride in evening

many more but plan your trip as its harder to do once there. i planned everyday out and it was perfect

The entertainer is very good. I ordered the book and got it delivered to my hotel. You can also if you know what you already want find individual vouchers on eBay which people sell as they were never used.

princessbex11
17 Nov 15 #35
May and June is beautiful there. July and August are hot. Double check when Ramadan is though, as this year the last two weeks of June were in Ramadan, so theoretically the whole of June will be next year and this is not the time to travel. as for Deira, it's not a holiday area, especially for the Brit. Save up and do it properly. Dubai is miserable on the cheap. After living there for some time, avoid holidaying in Ramadan and 'real' Dubai. As for the entertainer, yes a very good idea and will pay for itself if you go for one brunch and an excursion. Facebook has some decent swap pages, but selling them is illegal.

I've just got back from dubai. first time. personally didn't fancy it. best bits are the fountain and atlantis. the rest is very time consuming and VERY EXPENSI've. if you don't spend money you will surely have a miserable time. I roughly spend about 3k. I had to... as I was on my own and living in a crappy hotel dosent do it. even thoigh you will be there for 7 8 hours. you still need a top notch place. if you are a bit of a tight ass on hotels please book the suite. you won't regret. erm also did I mention it's expensive. next time I go I'll be spending double so I can have a better time

If you drink I've been told it's very expensive but I don't so not sure. Other than that dubai to me is as as expensive as you want it to be. Shopping in the malls is no different to here,

Honestly, not much aside from experiencing Extravagence. The hotels and food are top class but they don't come cheap. The best way to experience it in my opinion is to find a good deal with half board. It is great for just relaxing and being pampered. If you go there for a cultural trip you'll be disappointed as its all artificial

While it's not really my idea of a holiday, I do go to Dubai and Abu Dhabi fairly often for work.

I was last in Dubai in September & the temperatures at that time of year are similar to June. It is too hot to walk more than half a mile, but the hotel in question is reasonably close to the metro, which really is the best way to get around the city.

Dubai is a great place.

The place is full of Brits.

All the pubs and bars are full of Brits.

The Irish Village is good, Dubliners @ Le meridian village, Fibber Magees, etc.

A beer run to Baraccuda, if you have a car.
