Like I said earlier. Currys advertise on their website how to claim the free 5 year warranty. Print it off and get them to give you a new receipt or certificate. The reason it's happened is more than likely that whoever processed the receipt in the first place has not included a certain button. I am sure this would have been selected had you purchased Currys own aftercare warranty.

Currys are selling the tv with a 5 year warranty. They must state that the warranty is either with them or their know how team or with the manufacturer. You should have written confirmation of the warranty if it's with Currys or part of their group at the point of sale. This should be in writing on your receipt or by separate document. If it is not then you need to go back into Currys and get them to confirm in writing confirmation of the warranty including terms and conditions. I am led to believe that this warranty is offered by Currys themselves and not by Samsung. I have never known Samsung to offer more than two years on any of their products.

Don't ask one of the sales team. Go to customer services and get them to confirm it or ask to speak to the manager. If their stores are offering a 5 year warranty and you are getting fobbed off the manager is the one who will sort it out. You get some door handles working at these places who only have a little bit of knowledge. They are usually the ones trying to convince you that a £40.00 hdmi lead is 10 times as good as the one you are buying elsewhere. They are not.

Yes, retailers should be forced to advertise the rise and fall in price of the product. At least Argos tell you what the previous price was. My guess is Currys will use the time to replenish their stocks because there appeared to be an instant rush to buy this tv. Why I am not entirely sure as although the tv was ok in HD I found it not very good on SD and scrolling through the menu and populating the tv guide and changing channels was very slow. After my first viewing I struck it off my list. The Sony KDL-50W8009C had a much better picture. No 4k but when I reset them both back on to play the manufacturers usb stick I couldn't see that the 4k playing of the samsung was any better than the HD play of the Sony. For me I would have bought the Sony and saved myself £150.00

Has anyone who has bought this tv from Curry's got any proof of the 5 year guarantee because on my receipt it is only shown as 12 months. I have been back to Curry's twice now and nobody can give me a definitive answer. I also contacted Samsung and they said as far as they are concerned its only 12 months. I also sent an email to Curry's customer service but still haven't had a reply after 3 days but no great surprise there!

You may be better waiting until 26th December......It looks nice in UHD but I didn't like the one I saw mainly due to the slow response on the remote. No issues really if you have sky I guess. Evidently Sony too have a 5 year warranty on their Bravia range but Currys are keeping quiet about it. Cam in on October 1st. The 50" Sammy has the CHI MEI panel in it. 55" has BOE. That is providing we get the same tv's as Holland.

1 Dec 15 #81
Haha, well said although there is still 23 days to go but if it does come down it will be Boxing Day which I believe is after christmas. Don't you just love exploitation of the consumer by technology companies. These tv's will be little better or faster than their 1080 counterparts yet are £150.00 + more. It's still a 50" piece of glass at end of the day running the same or similar processors and other hardware. And they still can't make SD programmes appear any better. On viewing side by side 1080 and 4k tv's in my local curries whilst viewing BBC1 HD on their DTV service there was no difference between the Samsung ju6800, LG uf770v, LG LF561v and Sony KDL-50W8009C. The Sony was the best picture in my opinion. I guess true upscaling of 1080 with the naked eye may be questionable because I found no evidence of it on Sunday

No i haven't would love to find out but not overly confident about doing it! I have read in a couple of different places that the panel in the 50ins is a Samsung panel and the one in the 55ins is made by somebody else and that the performance isn't as good as the 50ins.
Smartguy1 to Richiano
21 Nov 15 #76
I read that too. Don't enter the service menu if you are hesitant. It's only scary if you change something !! When I looked on one of my tv's the instructions told me how to get in there but didn't tell me how to exit. Power off is the answer.

According to some information I just picked up from a Samsung site in Europe the panel manufacturer for the 55" would be a company called BOE. This is the part number / code

PRODUCT LCD BOE; CY-TJ055HGEV2V, JS6900, PT BN95-02448B

Hopefully someone else can confirm as the UK market could be different. The model number I have referred to ends in WXXN built for the dutch market and ends in KXXU in the UK.

Using the same site I put in the model number of my son's 40" Samsung and it listed three different panels which I know to be correct.

I don't supposed you have dared to access the service menu to see which option or type of panel it has in it have you. Shame that Samsung don't put it in the product code like LG do.

Finally got my UE50JU6800 set up today and extremely impressed, fantastic definition through my Tivo box far superior to the LG & Sony i had previously. Haven't tried a bluray through it yet but if HD is anything to go by it should be pretty impressive. The only down side is having to use the remote for Youtube etc takes forever but i have since ordered a Bluetooth keyboard which should speed thing up a bit.

I thought that when I changed my skybox+ to an hd one. It took me a year to watch everything on it as I kept recording new stuff. I had the new box in for 2 months, changed the tv and ditched sky !! I have the same with a Youview box. I still got loads of stuff to watch on the old box and have a new one which I should really plug in.

If your present tv is a samsung it should be ok. I believe it encrypts the information to protect recording rights but hopefully Samsung won't change that from model to model. We have 2 LG's both with timeshift and PVR and am sure it is interchangeable between the two.
rdbradshaw
17 Nov 15 #70
Thanks for that , I may take my hard drive with recordings to Currys and see if
It plays back because if it does that's great and I have not lost anything , it should do as its in the same format , but if it doesn't il have to watch my recordings before getting a new telly and start again.

That should work nicely. I bought a 64gb usb stick for my LG and it doesn't work. Someone told me it has to be 40gb minimum so I bought that. Then someone else said it has to be minimum 96gb but after quite a bit of googling I couldn't find anyone who got a flash drive to work on an LG so just bought a 500gb portable drive and it works fine. Strange though on my dad's LG a flash drive will make the timeshift work so you can pause and rewind but no record.

Safe bet is always a portable HDD.

I really like this tv but they are out of stock now in my home town. Looks good for the money but so does the Panasonic 680B. I think the Samsung may have the edge though. I would just like confirmation of the panel manufacturer or manufacturers before I parted with my cash. The 6400 had all Samsung allegedly but not sure on this model as it's too new. Hopefully anyone who has bought it has the guts to access the service menu and see what's hiding in there !!

According to Samsung's website it has timeshift and pvr which means you will be able to plug in an external usb drive which will enable the the usb record function. Note this probably needs to be an external usb hard drive and not a memory stick.

I read on a couple of reviews it had an ips panel but in all honesty didnt check the LG website. When i do finally get another tv i am fairly sure it will be a Samsung of some sort. It does annoy me that you think you are buying a certain brand only to find out its something completely different. At least it explains why its crap!!
Smartguy1
16 Nov 15 #64
Also the Sony you mention doesn't have a particularly good reviews on S21.com, only achieving good status where the Samsung UE50JU6800 gets outstanding status. Still a lottery as to who's panel you will get though and as far as I know that information isn't given now in the product / version code on the tv and the box. Suggestions are it's a VA panel but by who is anyone's guess. You could enter the service menu on a display model and have a look to see who is the manufacturer on the display model. With any luck the tv's will all have come from the same batch and maybe the same.

I have just returned an LG 55UF770V which i bought through a company at work (I work for an electrical wholesaler) terrible picture quality really blotchy screen when viewing anything with dark colours and awful banding issues it certainly looked better when it was switched off! And if you looked at the screen even slightly off center the colours would wash out I particularly wanted an ips screen for the wide viewing angles. I also bought one of the Sony KD49X8309CBU from Currys about 6 weeks ago but had to return that with similar issues and i couldn't get any of the settings to stay on the screen long enough to adjust them and it would randomly start playing music from google! Think i will stick with my trusty Panasonic plasma until such time i can afford an oled tv.
Smartguy1 to Richiano
16 Nov 15 #63
That's bad about the UF770V. I was looking at that tv in Currys thinking it had an amazing picture. Obviously well tuned to the LG usb stick that was in the back of it. I have the 50LB650V and that is quite blotchy if the programme is dark although it is a lot better after fine tuning the tv setting by setting from a tech posting on youtube. It made it a lot better.

Was you told this tv had an IPS screen. It's not listed as having one on LG's website. I see that the boxes in Currys for the 850V state it's 4K IPS but not on the box for the 770V. This was a tv I was interested in but my money would be going on the Samsung 6800.

I think you will find the 770V does not have IPS and according to the local stock they have in Currys it points to an MVA panel by Sharp. Even if it was advertised as having IPS on LG's website you can't believe what it says. My present tv should have an LG IPS panel as advertised on their website. It actually has a A-MVA panel by AU Optronics. Now you wouldn't expect a corporation as big as LG to make a mistake like that would you. Thanks to another subscriber who suggested my tv wasn't LG's I did some research to which it's confirmed that it isn't. The truth is in the product code.

16 Nov 15 #61
But then so has the Panasonic 680b, 700b and 802b. Interesting to see that none of the LG's or Sony's they tested had outstanding reviews. That may tell a story.

Just a shame when the techs do these reviews they cannot tell us the manufacturer of the panel in the test tv.

According to reviews on various forums regarding different models you could find that both the 50" and 55" may have an assortment of panels in them. Samsung still have a lottery going on with their flat panels.

I usually check on samsungparts.com as it gives you the panel references from the model number. You have to swap the UE to UN when you type in the reference, i.e. UE50 becomes UN50, but there is nothing listed for this model so either it is too new or it hasn't shipped to the USA.

After you put the model number in it tells you which panel is in the tv. From that you can cross reference the panel number to the panel manufacturer which could be Samsung, Sharp, AU Optronics or CMO. There is no guarantee which one you will get. My son has the UE40EH5000 and according to samsung parts.com that tv had 3 different manufacturer's panels in the same model.

Saying that Samsung may use different panel manufacturer's depending on where the tv is manufactured so what could happen in the USA may not be the same here. If only they would put a number in the product code like LG do do you can find out who's panel the tv has before you take it out of the shop. The only issue is there is all of the samsung panels would sell first followed by the ones fitted with a sharp panel and then the store would be left with a load of tv's that nobody who is in the know wants.

If anyone looking for an LG wants to ensure they get an LG panel over anything else the clue is in the product code. 4th letter from the end needs to be a 'W'. If it has a 'D' like my 50LB650v does then it's AU Optronics. According to LG though my tv should have their own unique LG IPS panel but it doesn't. Even manufacturers can lie, I mean get things wrong.

I bought a js8500 a couple of weeks ago and wanted a cheaper 50" for the other end of the front room, so bought a ju6800 after much research and have to say that apart from a bit of brightness and the Reds not quite as vibrant it is a great to for the money, got mine for £674, top cash back 1.57% and £15 off in store if you take out the monthly care plan then cancel it. For the money it is far better than a Sony X8309 or the Pansonic cx700 and they won't go much cheaper on Black Friday if at all, just a shame that curry sauce are a bunch of monkeys and nothing like the service you get in John Lewis, however with the 50" only available in Currys your hands are tied......make sure you get a receipt that details the 5 year guarantee which is with Currys and not the manufacturer, don't let them fob you off

Who is going to spend best part of £8k on a tv........I doubt if the 'rich' subscribe to hotdeals lol. I wonder if anyone has the cheek to ask Richer Sounds if it's a vestel or not.

Seriously though if the tv posted has a samsung panel in it and not the bottom of the range chinese one then this is a cracking deal. I tried to do a search on samsungparts.com, which if you put the model number in it gives you the code of the panel which you can then cross reference if it's a samsung panel or not. For european tv's you need to change the UE at the start of the model number to UN and then scroll down the list. This model is not listed. The only spoiler is there is no guarantee that european tv's come out of the same factory as the ones that go to America and Canada. Hopefully someone will correct me here but from what I have been reading the Samsung lottery still exists and most models are not exempt from it.

Not a bad price. Was looking at this last night but.........what happens if you get one that has the crappy panel made in China and not the genuine Samsung one. Samsung have got quite clever now and they just put 01 now in the version part of the manufacturer's label. Don't think Currys will be too happy about you accessing the service menu on the demo set and then there is still no guarantee that the one they give you will have a Samsung panel in it.

If anyone knows how you can tell the 2015 panel manufacturer from the code on the box please post. Was try to a TH01 code etc on one of the tv's in asda today but without success.

It's also not a bad idea to go to your local Richer Sounds if you have one as at least they will show you what the tv is like on SD which is how most of us watch normal tv.

Yep, it's a 60hz screen so I'd be weary if you are wanting this for games I'd hold off (this is why it's not 3D unlike it's bigger brothers), the 8500 panel (yes I know at nearly twice the price) is just a much better TV, picture on these really does have to be seen to be believed for a sub £1400 TV. Back to the 6800... the automotion mode is the stuff of nightmares if you are susceptible to flicker like I am. I was looking at these in store last night and asked the staff to put some actual video on that was higher than standard def. SD did not look good, at all. Practically unwatchable until the automotion was turned off. HD content was decent, color reproduction was good, very bright and vivid, almost like an IPS panel. Input lag on these is supposedly very high but I couldn't test that given the setting, if you are primarily a gamer I would avoid. If you just want to watch HD Films/TV I think you would be hard pressed to find a better 4k panel for the price.

excellent contrast ratio and blacks for an LCD TV, you will not see a better price to performance set. Only niggle is that the the 7000 and 8000 series got the HDR and this didn't (even though it's better suited than the 7000 series)

actually has a higher native contrast ratio than the flagship despite this been an 8 bit panel vs 10 bit (yes I know the flagship has bloomy FALD bla bla)

that's the dilemma. It's almost like giving in. I know I'd be impressed by this TV but it's just throwing money away if I am going to upgrade again. That's just technology though and I recommend never searching for a deal on a TV you bought a year ago, guaranteed it will leave you disappointed at the inevitable price crash

I don't suppose you know if we're likely to see a 55" one drop like a stone before Christmas do you? Thanks

Can't quite justify this in my head to upgrade from my old viera g30 plasma. It would really just be a filler of the gap before the LG oled TV becomes affordable. Amazing deal for those wanting this now of course!

The review from techradar is for the JU6400 Series not this one!

Ignore me, it's for the "Netflix Ultra HD streaming" service according to Samsung's website.

Does anyone know if the 6 month free Netflix that comes with this is for the standard subscription or would it include Netflix' 4K content as well?

12 customer reviews (people that actually own it) score it 9.6 out of 10...we can always send it back if there are any problems and at this price it's very much worth the effort imo.

don't see it myself...if they drop the price by £100 before Black Friday...it will still be this price "instore" as this is the "online" price only.
pennyfarthing88
11 Nov 15 #7
Well OP I ain't knocking your deal ( it's a good price present day! ) but this will drop in price before Christmas - in fact before 'Black Friday' yo can count on it!
