I have just seen this phone on the Gearbest website and for a Android 5.1, 4G LTE, Cubot Smartphone, it will take a while for it to be delivered as its coming from China if you can wait its worth the money. Having owned a Cubot phone in the past I must say they are well built and reliable. On one of the photos with the back cover removed it does say it works on Band 1,3,7 and 20 on 4G LTE. Another plus to see is built in Infrared remote control sensor.

8GB rom is way too small. I struggle with 16GB and don't have any music on my phone.

Plus you have the hassle of collecting your parcel from your local depot because the postman won't deliver it under these circumstances.

My order of a Doogee X5 Pro turned up after 5 days last week with yodel, luckily i never got any import charges.

Do you have to pay import duty on these?

I've order numerous items from China and never paid anything but people who have items shipped via DHL etc have been caught for charges. I always go for free basic shipping it takes longer but touch wood I've never paid anything to date.

Gearbest has zero import duty but you could be liable for 20% vat. Therefore when you import from China are you liable to pay an extra 20% on the item cost? Those of you who recommend this site have you had to pay and extra 20% charge when importing from China.

If your packet is picked up by Customs, you will be liable for 20% Import VAT plus a £8 handling fee by Royal Mail, so for this item you could end up paying £56 but this is still £20 cheaper than on Amazon. You pays your money and takes your choice.

I have only had two small orders with GearBest and both orders were posted immediately and arrived with two weeks. Obviously, YMMV.

I ordered The Doogee X5 pro posted here last Saturday and received it on Thursday. It was my second order and the 1st took only 12 days. I guess they sell stuff they are waiting on stock to arrive to themselves and its pot luck whether they already have it in stock.

If you Google "Gearbest reviews" apart from Trustpilot, well known for fake reviews, you will find plenty of customers with unresolved problems to substantiate my comments.

Its amazing really how much our demands increase. Just 18 months/ 2 years ago people would have been going mad for these specs at £100s. Now at just £40 people regard these hi specs as an ideal 'starter' phone. For me, a starter phone would be the equivalent of a Nokia 3210!

Point taken, although in this day and age a starter phone is considered to have smart phone features and internet capability for most sim plans which also these days include data.....therefore what was high end 3-4 years ago spec wise would obviously now be far cheaper to produce and considered starter.

I remember when a "starter" phone, or indeed any domestic phone, required being plugged into a wall socket. Going "mobile" from the Midlands and getting full UK coverage would have involved having at least a 500 miles long extension cord.

Seems true. My order has been "processing" for the Last 5 days.
Banggood however got my xiomi powerbanks to me in 7 days and the postage was cheaper.
I don't know what the point it's in paying for express delivery if they dont even Post it!

8gb internal storage, so if you want a decent number of apps on there (some games are 1gb+) you'll be needing to root it & push to sd card.
1ghz cpu even quad core is possibly a bit iffy and 1gb ram but it's £40 so what can you expect?
I expect this is perfectly good enough for a 1st phone or light users etc you just can't complain for the money

My Cubot GT99 was loaded with Bloatware grinding it to a halt. Good phone though 1gb ram is too small.

Bought an earlier 5" Cubot phone 18 months ago. Spare battery and moulded back cover/ flip cover. Great phone, never had an issue.

Yeah, but a lot changes in the world of smartphones in a year or two, let alone 4! When you compare this to the Doogee that was being sold by Banggood for £50 from their UK warehouse, it's no wonder there's a few cold votes. You might even be able to wait for them to restock and still get it faster than this. There's a lot of negativity regarding this seller too. I've used Banggood quite a bit and they've been really good - when I had an issue with a faulty item they replaced it straight away
