I have 650w version, great PSU, paid about £62 about 10mths ago, OEM is Enhance.
I've several times used in a rig running [email protected] for 48hr+ continuous. Gives stable power IMO and whisper quiet.

Oh perfect! The PSU on my esxi box died recently, just an OCZ bronze unit that's been going for years. Was waiting for a deal on something with gold efficiency. Heat.

Great prices all round for the 550W, 650W and the 750W.
Lies in tier 2a for PSUs, so good enough for me.
If you're holding out for a fully modular kit, it's best to wait it out until Black Friday to see if there any good deals.
I'm personally waiting to see if the EVGA G2 models drop but might have to jump in on this deal as it's a really good price for semi-modular and gold PSU.
mercutio98uk
16 Nov 15#13
If £40 is the max you can spend for a PSU, this is definitely not a bad buy. There's LOTS of good units for a tenner or so more though.
Definitely a deal, so voted hot.
CampGareth to mercutio98uk
16 Nov 151#16
But then those good units are probably rated for higher wattages so it's harder to hit the ideal 50% load for peak efficiency. Just saying that if you're not drawing over 250W there's not much reason to spend more unless it nets you platinum or higher rated efficiency. That's my use case btw, 50-100W of server on 24/7 so low wattage high efficiency is perfect.

£43.98 delivered for a Gold rated, semi modular, 550W power supply manufactured by Seasonic? HOT! HOT! HOT!

Super efficient, one of the best hitting 92% (actually clears platinum)
super quiet under normal load

Ordered and many thanks, grabbed the 750w version.
I'm looking at building a low power HTPC but with some gaming capability.
the power usage will be anything from 40W to 200ishW at full load, but getting PSUs with loads that small isn't easy.
currently i have specced a corsair cs450 which is semi modular but i like the look of this.
is there a "minimum load" for PSUs though?
as i said, what im trying to build will be like 30W at idle...

you'd be fine with this, overkill however it's cheap and a great psu.

I just tried it and I qualify as a "Standard Member", a bit insulting, but free delivery, so hey ho.
Think I may just have to go for the 750W; Jonny Guru reviews have this right up there with the best of them; slight ripple on one of the rails, but nothing to worry about at all. I just need to see if this fits my R4 case, as it's quite a small PSU..

I'm sorted now I've bought this, it was to good at this price, I did the cooler master power calculator it came up with 450w after doing my own math on actual usage though it was around 200w average, so this 550w at it's awesome 92% efficiency is perfect.
but here's my stuff...
Haswell I3 4170,
G-skill ares CL11 - 16gb (2x8) 2400mhz
At most 8 fans 5 of them will be 120mm
Asus xonar sound card (PCI-E)
6x hdd (5900-7200 rpm) 1x3tb, 2x4tb, 3x5tb, 1xblu-ray drive (also looking to add hot swap bay),
Ok now for the GPU, I've got my eye on the gtx 960 and have had for some time, im not a gamer but It will be an all in one p.c mostly for high quality playback and 4k, madvr on high etc. hense the 960 (GM206) with native h265, hdmi 2.0, hdcp 2.2.
the only thing is it's now close to xmas so I'm holding off and hoping for 1 of 2 things, first (hopefully) an official release statement on a gtx 960 TI (4gb, 256bit) based of the GM206 (is a must) or the standard gtx 960 4gb on sale.

3.5 inch HDDs draw around twice the power at startup as at steady state.
By default, they'll all spool up at the same time when you turn it on so that will account for maybe 120W on top of the rest of the system's demands, so, yes, I'd expect 450W rather than 200W.
When building HTPCs/media PCs, I like to use 2.5 inch HDDs (quieter, cooler and lower current draw) and 12V picoPSUs, or for many spindles/Terabytes, an unraid-based server and a small SSD-based HTPC.
You sound over-fanned with a Haswell i3, gtx960 and a few drives - not that it'll make any difference to your psu though ...

well large fans blowing air up through the 3x 5tb drives which run a little hot but they will all be throttled to keep quiet will evenly spreading a lot of cool air at low rpm. and my max fans state would be 8 but I may only go with 6 all in inc the cpu fan.

Ye i looked at it but to pricey and really anything I get must have the GM206 with native support for h265, hdmi 2.0 & hdcp 2.2.
the only 2 gpu's that use the GM206 are the 960 or the 950 which is a cut down of the 960, so I'd really be looking for something above a 960 with at least the GM206, which is why I was hoping for a 960 TI.

I'm putting together a gaming build for the first time so am a complete noob.... is there any reason not to get the 750w in anticipation of sli or something in the distant future? I haven't settled on a graphics card yet. If the 650w would be more efficient and probably sufficient too then I'd be comfortable with that one...
(so far only part settled on is an i7-6700K)
gozo to OnlyJoeKing

I'm in no way an expert, but from what little information I've picked up, I think if you plan to overclock (and you've settled on an unlocked processor, so you should OC), then depending on what type of graphics card you have, you would want to have more wattage if possible.
I think it just puts less stress on the system with higher voltages used for OC as well.

This has been over £70 for ages now, and it's BY FAR the most efficient 500-600W PSU at very low loads... see here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/psus/2014/06/20/550w-650w-psu-roundup/15
