Fantastic cold call blocking (had the duo 6mnths and not had one cold call since!)
2 year guarantee included
Block up to 100% of nuisance calls with the BT 8500 digital telephone and answering machine with Call Guardian. This functional phone features a modern design, a 1.8-inch colour screen, 60 minutes of message recording time, a 200 contact phone book, a long battery life and the ability to block up to 1,000 individual numbers.
Same price in Argos & Currys at mo but only 1yr guarantee I think.
I managed to get the duo set site for £40, but and extra handset for £15 sounds a bargin to me.
Edit: Works on Virgin & BT lines with caller ID enabled
I am just back from Tesco for some food shopping and found they were doing this set for the same price so it seems it is becoming the normal price now for the trio set. Obviously JL is better with 2 years cover

the phones seem great, but paying for caller display sucks, and its a never ending fee too so the phones themselves aren't the panacea they appear to be at fist impression.... don't get me wrong... I've been wanting these for ages, but being with virgin ,im not willing to pay for the caller I'd for ever more when the combined service of the phone software and caller ID should be free for all, good on sky (yes I know they can afford it) and talk talk I think ?? BT do it when you pay upfront for line rental is OK too but Virgin suck....(but not at BB so no I'm not going to vote with my feet . )
still a good price though I think curry's is same price too

Argos have them at the same price ! but only 1 year guarantee I would go to Argos and have the £5.00 voucher on £50.00 spend ! If a phone is any good it would last you years and when has anyone taken a phone back !

True. Plus, I think the 1 year warranty is Argos relaying the manufacturers information.
I.e if your phone randomly just started not working and it's after a year old then you can't expect the manufacturer to fix or replace it under those terms. However Argos will have to sort something out for you as they are acting as the retailer. I think it's an EU wide law that ensures consumers should expect goods to last at least that long or otherwise have it fixed or replaced. John Lewis seem to reflect this more transparently
eeek!

Only the answerphone needs to connect to a power socket and your phone cabling. The other two are wireless, therefore can be placed anywhere (within reason) where the is a power point that they can be plugged in to.
caller ID is an extra feature that costs.
. . . and I believe that if you have a wired phone, that does not have the blocking feature, it will still ring (can anyone verify this?)
hope that helps
. . . why would you still need three wired phones?
Newbold
13 Nov 15#37
It is - though you can often negotiate a deal for it to be included free.
Just making absolutely sure.
Because with my current wired setup with 3 phones on extensions, none of them have a convenient power socket near them.
Question about Caller ID with BT.
I logged in to my account and it said free for 12 months and £1.75 per month starting from month 13.
Anyone confirm that caller ID is a paid service?
None of my current phones will display caller ID.
Thinking of getting just one, rather than three cordless phones to prevent PPI and nuisance calls.

Genuinely puzzled by all these comments about being plagued by unwanted calls. Have had the same phone number for 30+ years now, and I'd say we get about one unwanted call a month. So no real need for this phone.
TPS registration, an ex-directory number and a permanently withheld number - plus a little care as to who gets given the number - that's all it took.
Why so many problems?

I can personally vouch for this set up. Gone from double figures "spam" calls a day to 0(yes, that's a ZERO!) now. Bliss. I have it on Sky with caller ID(which you must have). As others have explained, number withheld (or ex directory) is NOT a problem, all they need to do is say their name when asked and they will be screened through to you and you decide whether to take the call or not. If you're not in, it gets put through to the answer phone as long as correct procedure is followed by the caller. All these recorded messages just get the chop as they don't reply/press hash/whatever when asked to. Well worth investing in IMHO. A very satisfied customer.

It does work however if you are on EE and have 'wi-fi calling' enabled on an iPhone then your number comes up as 'international' & can cause issues.(thinking its a nuisance call).
I have turned wi-fi calling OFF for this reason.

Not sure you really need to do that with these phones. You will miss some genuine callers (like our boiler serviceman phoning to cancel but who withheld his number). Just use it as you should and you will not be plagued by cold calls. We e had this for 6 months and not a single cold call. Nice to return home and see the missed calls that were blocked.

Oh well, they do get notified that their call can not be put through because their number is withheld. With the amount of cold calls we got (so much time lost) I think this out weighs the maybes. Maybe not right for some businesses, but for a home coder/designer its perfect for me & mine.
Newbold
13 Nov 15#15
I wonder how many real calls you've actually lost from withheld numbers - you have no way of knowing, really. Some businesses and individuals (quite a lot - me included) have their numbers permanently withheld to prevent businesses from scooping up the numbers, and you could be missing important calls. But you'll never know.

Thanks. If I set it straight to answerphone, will all the cold callers go straight to answerphone too? Sorry to be a pain but I suspect that the price you pay for blocking cold callers is that you run the risk of blocking calls you would wish to receive on the answerphone in your absence. Please correct me if this is not the case.

I've set ours to block all withheld/unobtainable numbers, and all others (not in phone book on phone) to screen, I've found that cold callers don't like this and just hang up. You can also block certain area codes I think. Any REAL callers have all got thro no prob, and we use this on our home/business line, hope this helps

we were getting plagued with nuisance cold calls - bought these - not had one since.
You need caller ID and the numbers you save in the phone memory can come straight through.
Everyone else has to say their name and you can accept/reject...but it does block the automated diallers.
Actually realise how little we use the home phone once all the cold calls stop!
