Manual save? I don't mean any disrespect but no, sorry. Your game saves if you exit it, which accommodates for the obvious fact that no-one can play through any game in one sitting and overall progress should be kept. Otherwise, being able to repeatedly recover from any point where you were previously is a crutch and completely destroys the risk/reward dynamic which is the exact point of the game.
If you don't want to put the time in to get good and improve, this game will quickly defeat you. This is not a game to enjoy so much as conquer and defeat. From Software clearly don't care that everyone won't enjoy it, that's not what this series is about.
And by the way, Bloodborne does have a difficulty setting.

Nooooo, don't give up.
Buy some molotovs (+ oil urns if you want the extra kick) and get back in there.
Got the game yesterday, played it for a few hours, got tired of repeating it over and over again
Putting it on ebay this weekend.
Worst game experience Ive had in a long time

I can sprint that in 20 seconds not including the lift. If you're bothering fighting every enemy before a boss fight and after the final shortcut then you're obviously playing it wrong.

Top of my head, Father Gascoigne. Even with all shortcuts open you've got two brick trolls, a bridge with a fire trap, another brick troll and two beast hunters between the Central Yharnam lamp and the fog door. It's a stretch to call that "immediately before"

Name a boss that doesn't have a shortcut and lamp before it? I'm on my fourth playthrough and have never been more than roughly 30 seconds from a boss once I've opened the shortcut preceding it. Maybe you didn't open any shortcuts, thus being 'miles' away from each boss.

Well, that's simply not true

Every boss fight has a lamp and shortcut immediately before it, unless you missed them all.

Hmm... the Old Hunters pre-order is now up on PSN for £15.99, and all reference to it being £11.99 has been removed from the original blog post. Very sly move.

Exit anywhere, back up the resultant save to a USB stick, boom, there's your save system. Not how the game's meant to be played, but it works remarkably well for all those boss fights that are miles from lamps

I'm so crap I couldn't even get to the first boss. Gave up and bought GTA V instead.
Fail.
At least GTA is ace.

Repeating the same part of a game gets boring in my opinion. After playing the game for a while I understand that it's not one of those games that "holds your hand"
A better save function would not have crippled the experience at all. A manual save function would have meant more people could enjoy it. If it works fine for people like you as it is then don't save as often, simple! That's why most games have a difficulty setting because not everyone is on the same level and it allows more people to enjoy the game.

100% this!
It's suicidal to go in all guns blazing and swords swinging expecting to come out alive. You need to assess the situation and plan your attacks with patience, there's nothing more rewarding than getting through a section of the game you've been stuck on for a while.
It's not all that difficult once you've mastered the mechanics and accept that you have to take your time.

Easily my favourite current gen game, and in my top 5 best games ever, it's just sooooo good!
If anyone is finding it difficult you should jump online and buddy up with someone. I completed the majority of the boss fights playing alongside someone else and it was much easier.

Replying to this and in before spark turns up to say the same.
The exact point of this game is to repeat it over and over until you get better/until you get good. This is a not a modern "game" that is really just a hand-holding experience to let you do everything without any skill. Half the point of the game is the risk/reward of trying something difficult whilst holding onto a high amount of blood echoes (or souls in the Souls series).
A "better" save function would have crippled the entire experience. It's a masterpiece of true game design.

My personal game of the year so far. Such a superb game world and I love the story/lore. A steal at this price and would strongly recommend it.

I think I'm the only person that found this game way harder than the souls games. Probably because I was always a tank with heavy armour and a phat shield. This is game is epic though, more like demons than dark

Got stuck on the father gascogine boss fight in this game and gave up. Great game for what I could actually do. (Not much)

Same here.
I didn't really enjoy the game due to having to repeat the same bits over and over. A better save function would have made it more enjoyable.

I find this kind of game play is the reason demons/dark souls/bloodborne are so good. When you finally crack that boss battle it's amazing. Also makes the game last longer

Old Hunters DLC will be £11.99. Unless you can find the GOTY edition for £33.98 or less then this is a great deal

I sold the game months ago. I don't have enough time now a days to repeat the same part of a game over and over.

From what I have seen online game of the year edition is up for pre-order at full whack. 40-50 quid. So just depends how much the DLC costs on PSN to make this a good deal.

It will be £11.99, so not too bad.

It's probably a good idea to wait for the GOTY price to be announced. More often than not, it's better value for money
