We have this soup quite a lot — my wife is Jamaican and it’s used as the soup base for a lot of Jamaican cooking. It’s a noodle soup, but not quite the same as the same brand’s Chicken noodle soup — the male bird is obviously a bit tougher, but not so tough it avoided being made into a soup.

I’m always irked a bit when the students from around our way find it funny and buy out all the packets of these (usually when the wife has sent me down to Asda to get some because we’ve run out). Once the funniness has been gotten over, I hope they don’t just prop it up on a shelf, rather, they actually cook up the soup — it really is quite good and enjoyable.

edit — I never realised there’s no actual male bird in there. I’ve just been to the cupboard to look at the back of a pack we have here. You’re right! No bird whatsoever.
