This is just what I'm looking for- although it doesn't say anywhere what grade the iPod is, like it's pre owned but how are we meant to know what state it is in and what damage is there?

That's stated in the banner :smiley: Refurb basically means it's been re-housed, cleaned up & restored to factory settings. If it'll turn up like that is another matter entirely :smiley:

In various cases "refurbished" may be synonymous with "used", "reconditioned", "remanufactured", "refreshed", "recycled", "repaired", "recertified", or "like new". Merchants do not often specify the exact reason an item is "refurbished", so buyers may be assuming some of the same risks of buying used equipment.
I wouldn't waste your money. I have a friend who a year ago brought a 3rd generation from CEX and it was basically just an music player. Almost all apps couldn't be updated or downloaded because the apps needed latest firmware which the 3rd generation didn't support as it was no longer updated. It wont be long before this is the same unless it already is.

As with all Apple devices, it is not too bad if you manage to keep it running on the iOS version it shipped with (iOS 4, I'm guessing). Unfortunately, Apple do all they can to make you upgrade, slow your device down to a crawl and actively go out of their way to prevent people trying to downgrade. This will take 20+ seconds to open stock apps, 60+ seconds to open a webpage in an old, abandoned version of Safari and half a second to register each keypress on the keyboad. Ever had apps randomly close and send you back to the home screen? This is because you've run out of memory and Apple hope you won't notice. This will be very common on an older deviceAlso, because of the fact the CPU usage is always very high, struggling to run Apple's ever-more bloated software, battery life will suffer.

Not specific to apple it could be said ,many various bits of wonderful tech , different manufacturers stuck on software unable to upgrade! :disappointed:

We have this version and my boys are now having problems with apps running to fast or just not playing at all because it can't be upgraded. If your not into the most up to date games and apps then you don't have any problems like music and odd card game but even garden of time can't run properly on mine. We are getting a newer version for our boys for Christmas.

In my rant, I was moaning about the fact that Apple force you to upgrade even when they know it will cripple the basic functions of the device. I am quite happy that my old, spare Android phones are stuck on Android 2.x, because they run as fast as the day I bought them
