This is literally my favorite game ever. Definitely worth it at this price, as it usually retails for £15 over at Beamdog. If you were ever curious as to where the Dragon Age series, Pillars of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin games took their inspiration, look no further! THIS is it.
My GOTY, all years, for the past however many years it took me to find it.

You're gonna laugh but the biggest advantage this has over the older ones is the hardware cursor. The non-enhanced editions are locked at 30fps, moving the mouse is the biggest chore lol.

Is there a major difference between this and the standard Baldur's Gate 2? I already have 2, would it really be worth forking out again for the enhanced edition?

yes - experience...
its a low budget game its been out for a while and its inevitable it will hit a bundle. I also see this being reduced in the xmas sales.

If you already have 2 (non-ee) then you're not gaining a massive amount, mostly just a few bug fixes and improved multiplayer support. The new NPCs are mostly more powerful than the original crowd. They have some fun interactions with each other & the old NPCs too.
I've personally been playing this game on-and-off for almost 15 years now (yes, it's that old) and it stands the test of time brilliantly. Currently encouraging all my mates to buy it, maybe we can get a 6-person multiplayer playthrough to happen!

There's a massive number of games that meet that description, I don't see why this game is any more likely than all the other potential candidates. Aside from anything else there isn't even a bundle on steam for baldur's gate 1 & 2 together (despite both being done by the same dev/publisher). If they're not even willing to bundle those 2 games, which make so much sense together, for a slightly lower overall price then I don't see why they'd be willing to put either game in a humble bundle for mere pennies.

Would love this to be remade or even a true sequel.

The original is currently £14.99... Do I need to play that one first? Was thinking about grabbing this for my friends so we can coop it but happy to wait if it's best to start from the beginning?

I would recommend playing through the first together and then hitting the second.
However, if you're already well-acquainted with 2nd edition DnD and just the universe in general, might just okay to jump straight into this.

Fun fact, the guy who voices Minsc also voices Winnie the Pooh.
Anyhow, back on topic, this is one of the best RPGs ever made. It is however extremely hardcore, battles actually play out using the AD&D rules set (you can even turn on the dice rolls to see the calculations as you play). It's not for everyone.
Dragon Age Origins both built on this and greatly simplified it, so if you want a more complex version of that, this is worth checking out.
