Seems to be for new customers only so I'd recommend creating a new account if you haven't already to access the deal. It should just come up on the home page.

Offer ends January 2, 2016

Just wish they would do a deal for existing customers rather than just want to drive their userbase up!

higher bit rate song quality/no ads/function to *store songs onto your mobile or computer. also, for streaming devices such as WDTV, you can only access Spotify with a premium account.

*these song files are fairly large and will take up a lot of space. they also have name tags all scrambled so that you cannot (easily) locate them on your hard drive and copy to another location/device.

@tehwabbit "id love to use this but cba with the hassle of creating multiple accounts and having to re-sign into all my devices each few months!"

Think of it like this, you would be saving nearly £30 every 3 months if you spent about 5 minutes signing your devices into a new account. Is your time usually worth more than £30/5 minutes? or £120/20 minutes over a year? This site is all about saving money, is it really that much of a hassle?

This is a good deal no doubt.
However I find Google Play Music much better. You can upload your own music (The Beatles?) to their servers 50,000 tracks for free & I find the overall user experience better. I was with Spotify from very early on with the iphone app.
Also you can now pay your 9.99 with store credit & buy the vouchers often with 15% off (Tesco recently plus clubcard points) making 8.50 a month.
This has become a _very_ competetive market and when I joined GPM this time last year I got a standard 2 months free. Apple launched their streaming service 3 or 4 months ago with a standard 3 months free.
I am certain google will offer a similar deal to this _very_ soon if you can hold out. They may even _match this deal_ if you phone them? just google "google play music support 0800"

cheers

Thanks I made a new account and got 3 months @ 99p. I did quite like this when I had a 1 month trial a few months ago, and used it when walking my dog, but found I was using it less and less after a few weeks. If it was £5 a month I'd probably have a recurring subscription, but £10 a month for something I might not use for a few weeks is too much. Better to get £60 a year out of me than £0 I say.

Not free music, but they should get real. It's 2015, not the 1980's.

Musicians moaned when internet piracy was supposedly killing their industry, now when we have legal alternatives they still moan.

If they create some decent material, like any business they will be successful.

Musicians get grossly underpaid on Spotify no matter what. (It won't affect what they get because they get paid per play counts) We're grossly underpaying Spotify. For once they get to know what it feels like to be on the other side of the table

pivotalgubbins
26 Nov 15 #129
Tosh - there is well researched evidence to suggest that Spotify would make higher revenues if they charged HALF the price that they currently do but they will not because they risk upsetting artists.

I've got no real issue with people using tricks/loopholes/etc. as piracy/theft will always exist but don't try and justify it with crap statements like this.
larry27
26 Nov 15 1 #130
Great deal. Thank you OP
inri
26 Nov 15 1 #131
Link me to your 'well researched evidence'. Is it from ibitimes or dailymail? Of course by charging lower prices they're going to get more consumers. but that significantly reduces their profit margin. Artists are the people who make up the prices. They've done 1000x research than you as an industry as well as individuals (bet your ass they did. They have millions sitting around they spend in a blink of an eye on these "researches".) So don't tell me there's 'well researched evidence' because if they were any credible, law of economics would have played its hand. Those greedy **** would do anything for an extra penny.

Lecturing a billion dollar busines and industries their pricing strategies? Give me a break. If you're so clever, go and become a consultant and tell them to. I promise you you'll get millions by spending 5 minutes telling them. (You're earning more than Bill Gates!) What's that? Nobody will listen to you? That's right, the sentence you type aren't worth the bytes needed to store them. You're just relaying some random article/angry blogger you don't understand. Guess what? They're all stupid and you've just become another botnet of virus that is infecting the internet one by one, stupidity.

Congrats, troll. + You took my words completely out of context

There's plenty of decent material out there. Before the digital age, I was spending £20-£40 per month on music. Now i spend £10 per month, and I've got infinitely more music. So less than half the price, and that's without taking inflation into account.

No, its just that they operate on a pay per play model. It's many of fractions of a penny the artist gets played when their song is played, so very few make much money off it. Smaller artists have no chance - although most of them I've seen much prefer to make money via band merch and tours regardless :stuck_out_tongue: Streaming is a dreadful model for the artists sadly.

i've read how it works, it's all explained here
http://www.spotifyartists.com/spotify-explained/
just out of interest, how do you know how they like to earn money, have you spoken to all of them.
it may only be fractions of a penny per listen, but it obviously works for the artists, or they wouldn't do it.
RuudBullit
27 Nov 15 #152
do you think if you buy a cd or vinyl that there aren't shareholders making money? manufacturers, distributers, retailers?
slayermatt
27 Nov 15 #153
I'm just going off a couple of interviews I've seen. The smaller bands tend to do it more for the exposure - but then they don't make much off of CD sales either. All that goes to their legal department sadly and probably does in this case too. Hence why touring, concerts and other events becoming increasingly more popular in the rock scene.

This references a report that was actually done by management consultants and indicates that Spotify would become more profitable by slashing prices in the UK. This would result in more monies going to artists but there is the obvious disadvantage of having to pay these out at a greater rate, i.e. reconfiguring the payment model with labels/artists.

However, I'm sure you'll dismiss this as the angry little keyboard warrior you are.

Yours sincerely, "troll"

It's simple laws of demand.
Demand at £5 is more than twice it is at £10.
100 sales at £5 is better than 40 at £10, especially when there's no extra cost to them when nothing is produced (costs of production for both will be almost identical).
I for one would never pay £10 a month, but £5 is more swallowable (although when there's 99p deals all year round, as well as the perfectly functional web player for PC there's not much point).

£5 a month to play music that I do not own, and might not use the service for a few weeks on end is more than enough. It's not that I can't afford £10 a month, but it's just not worth it for me tbh. It would make more business sense for them to get £60 a year out of me than £0. I suspect that this could be multiplied millions of times?

You've brought up a good point point here though, It's not worth it to you, as you don't listen a lot. To those that listen everyday, to lots of different albums, it's well worth it. So the value of spotify is extremely subjective.

I was in that same predicament with apple music.......luckily I had a credit card issued in another country where apple music only costs £3 a month.

U DNT NEED TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT IF U NEVER HAD PREMIUM TRIAL!
I had spotify for quite some time now but never tried premium so it allowed me to active this at 99p

Couldn't get this to work. Created a new account, paid by paypal, confirmed payment, but it just spit me back into the offers page without taking my money.

Working fine and 99p!

If you have a chromecast you don't have to pay the 99p - go to Chromecast offers...

Sorry - where do I go to check this? My chromecast is about a year old but I wouldn't mind checking if anything is available :-)

29 Nov 15 #162
You might get the £20 of Google play credit too - mine shows this offer and is a year old. Same terms and conditions for trial though - can't be a premium subscriber or have had one recently/at all?
fiendishlyclever
1 Dec 15 #164
I use the chromecast app - find your chromecast and click on the settings cog, then check for offers. Your chromecast had to be switched on for this to work.

Is there an easy way to transfer account info via some kind of web app? I have an old account and wouldnt mind easily copying the saved LPs across.

Er doesn't the date trick work any longer?. Sign up at the correct current date, go to phone, tablet or PC settings and switch off automatic date and time and switch the date back say 10 or 20 years?.

I just tried it on my tablet on the 7 day trial, changed the date and premium days remaing have gone up to 5000 odd on the main screen!. Of cause, still might deactivate after 7 days or 3 months, but might be worth trying if your not on a correct date vital device?.

I keep getting this messsge "Oops, seems your card or payment provider is having a bad day. Don't worry, no money has been charged. Try again or use another payment method."

I only get that message when trying to sign up via an offer or student discount..at full price it goes straight through....
Richierea to umz73

It might be your bank being extra cautious. Fraudsters often charge small amounts to a stolen card (like £1) to test the card is active. Your bank may be blocking the 99p purchase.

See, I would take something ending on the 2nd as ending at 23:59:59 on the 2nd.

Regardless, it's ended, so will just use my Apple Music free trial instead :man:

Edit: As an aside, these have all appeared in the last 30 mins of using the app. Great job Spotify....no really.
