Looks to be identical to the Lidl one, which is identical to many others. If so it's seriously worth £50. Got this and a 50L Lidl one.

They have had this units for about two weeks and as they are fairly large and take up space...i can only assume they reduce them to clear up space ....always offers at my local Aldi

Was about 30 of these at my local Aldi last week (Fleetwood Lancs) they took up most of the central aisle, so would expect them to be reduced soon too!

got one, noisy and not quite enough air for anything so motor is running all the time, got myself a bigger Clarke, but for that price if u not really using it, £50 is not bad to get one for display.

Superb unit, cast iron block in full splash oil bath, small pressure regulated outlet & non-regulated as well.
Not that noisy for a 2880rpm motor.
Air tank a little on the small size but very easy to wheel around for Tyre inflation.
This replaced a crappy "oil free" unit that is essentially am up scaled glove-box compressor.

Is this overkill for just inflating bicycle tyres? Is there a better mains power option?

great little compressors these. Used mine with a clarke nail gun to put up a 31m featherboard fence.

Is this sufficient for a decent spray paint job?

Thanks OP, two days ago this was still full price . Will have a look in several stores to see if they have reduced. The whole idea of a tank is to store air and the motor starts up and stops when needed.
A 2.5 compressor without a tank will run continuously ( you have to turn them off after several minutes as they get hot) and will easily blow up tyres, spray paint ,etc but one with a tank like this Aldi one will give you a constant supply. Most attachments have a rating on them how much they need so you know if your setup should work.

Called into Aldis and loads left at full price. Asked a member of staff to check price as other stores had it reduced to £50. After checking he said they are not allowed by head office to reduce items until after 5 weeks. As has only been in 2weeks, have to wait another 3weeks before they reduce anything left.
He added the Manager has the power to reduce the price , so this is what must have happened to the stores with the lower offer but does not know why these stores would do that , in contradiction to the rules of head office!
