Thought this deserved a repost, 50MB fibre broadband £17.82 per month. Should increase to 70Mb too.

The offer has been on and more often off with poorer offerings available for the last few months. Page actually shows 2 days to go this time though.

50Mb broadband £5/month + Line rental £16.99/month = £263.88 - £50 Credit /12 = £17.82/month - £39.88 line rental saver = £14.50/month.

"In a cable area and want to save money on your line rental? All you have to do is pay 12 months line rental upfront for the discounted rate of £164, and you’ll save £39.88 over the year."

Go via Uswitch link and enter code VMVOU50 at basket for £50 bill credit.

One of the big wigs from Virgin media was on BBC R4 this morning. He was saying the government shouldn't subsidise BT for supplying new areas Broadband that they would have invested in anyway because they are profitable.
Makes sense to me.. He said BT shouldn't receive it and that they are able to fritter away £500m on premiership rights using partly subsidised money that the tax payers have contributed. I think this issue should be taken as seriously as companies not paying their fair share of taxes because they are equally diddling the national purse out of sorely needed public funds.

FT storyhere. Use the subsidy on getting Broadband to customers that ISPs wouldn't touch with a barge pole, as it was intended to.

Good old Virgin Again....
I read so much about virgin media offers its almost makes me cry. First thing first , i work for virgin and the offers that are showing are for there loyal long term customers, Open to everybody don't be fooled by the the two day offer its a sales gimmick even if you phone up in two or three weks the offer is still there , just ask and you will get.
The next thing is the Line rental , let get this one over and done with, Yes you have to pay £16.99 to get the offer and do you know WHY!!! its because virgin have to pay BT even it you don't have a BT line or use the phone in your house so the money you are paying for is just the internet.
Now the £50 offer can also be deducted from you bill with out using any offers.
Remember if you don't ask you don't get. Also virgin are bringing in a fair use policy if you exceed 350gb per month your internet speed will go down and i bet they dont tell you that on the phone , so again ask

Virgin SUCKS - they have increased the prices, boasted the speed but literally they suck as the connection drops out bloody 20times in a day. Their technical support is even more awesome who really have no idea what a "ping" test can reveal if you are not connected. Never worth paying the money I have paid in last few years. It's getting worst in terms of what they offer and still how much they want to charge.

The point is why they feel the need to bundle the line rental in at all, personally i don't need or require a landline, so why can't i have a bundle with broadband, tv and mobile for a decent price?

With other providers such as BT, Talk Talk, SKY etc they use the phone line for the broadband, so the line rental makes more sense, VM use their own cable feed, and it's time they modernized their bundles and offered a mobile option

Picked up this deal for my new home, thanks.

One thing though -- when I went through the with it, it asks whether you want a QuickStart package or an engineer visit. If you need an engineer they will add on £49.95 for installation costs. You just need to give them a call on 0800 0527588 and tell them you saw the offer online and it said you get free installation, and they'll take remove the charge for you.

I'll be phoning VM soon for another 12 months as don't feel anyone else is as good.

However, how do people NOT pay the line rental? Do you simply negotiate with retentions for a new bb contract then ask to cancel the line rental? Thanks in advance if anyone can answer.
jonathan_d

it says no refunds after a few days if you pay upfront but they can't then increase your price during the 12 months, only afterwards
naphtha to jonathan_d
28 Oct 15 #115
I realise now my question didn't really make sense - of course the price won't rise if I pay up front.

But - during periods like now, when providers are announcing price increases and sending out letters that say we have a month to cancel without penalty - it would be reasonable to think that cancelling would mean a partial refund if you had paid upfront.

Only thing is, providers aren't always the most reasonable of entities and I'm worried they would refuse that refund.

So I was just about to take the plunge and switch from sky, going for the line rental saver too, but I am wondering now if that locks me in for 12 months regardless of whether they up the prices again.

Anyone know if they're obliged to partially refund a line rental saver payment if you terminate the contract early, when the price rises?

Virgin's download to upload ratio socks! 1/10th only whereas all others is much better. I switched from VM to EE fiber and have had a bumpy transition with total 6 engineer visits over, 3 modem changes, 3-4 CEO emails resulting in several months of free compensations+discounts. Ive just finished a 12 month contract and i only have BB nothing else and i was paying £19.50.In checking what i was on in terms of speed it turned out to be 50 mb with an upgrade to 70 available ( honestly didnt know i was on fibre ) anyway out of contract its upto £21.25.So im on the lookout for a deal, the Virgin price hike always comes mid term for me so i always make sure and ask that it wont affect me and there quoted price is for 12 months and wont go up a few months later.I would like to mention ive always got a good deal from them and have been very happy with ther service too. One small point my hub mains plug broke and the top pin is seperate from the bottom two although still working i phoned them as its a safety issue on Monday but im still waiting for the replacement 4 days later.

Yes, it's all mainly a cartel, but VM must be one of the worst ... every year they will write to me to say they will increase their broadband by £1.50 / £1.75 per month, which is way above inflation when IT products should be coming down in prices really.

I got 50Mb BB a couple of months ago for about £25pm (£5 discount), and was thinking that this was a bit of a rip off compared to deals being offered around by other companies.. After I received the recent increase letter that advised that I could cancel my contract, I rang retentions and explained that I'd received the letter allowing me to cancel, and that BT had offered me free or very cheap BB if I took out a phone line (I did actually get a letter from BT offering BB for either free or £5). Within minutes I was offered a phone line with BB for £15.49pm. A little bit of banter and he also threw in caller display. When the contract arrived it shows that I have two discounts, one of £10 and another of £9. The £10 discount is for 12 months, the £9 discount is for 18 months, although my contract is only for 12 months anyway.

I'm happy, even if I probably won't be using the phone.

According to OP it looks like I can get another £39.88 off by paying upfront. Is this right?

Need advice please. I got offered £17.50 for 100mb broadband. With line rental saver it will cost me £31/month for weekend calls and the bb. Is this an OK deal? Any suggestions/comments?
Rom to jayjay266
22 Oct 15 1 #83
Not good enough.

If you go through the click in this post there is a deal for 100Mb too - 9.99 for 9 months then 22.50 for 9 months (+16.99 line rental per month) = 242.82+355.41 -50 credit -39.88 = 508.41/18 = £28.25 per month.

BUT if you go to see deal from the uswitch landing page it actually shows a deal of £10 per month on a 12 month contract, so 26.99 a month, or 19.50 per month after the £50 credit code and and line rental saver is paid. If you're going for this you should take screenshots of the uswitch then virgin pages and may have to be firm but even the above is cheaper.

Yes, but why should one have to ask / beg? With Post Office Homephone it's NO extra charge for options of caller display AND for paper bills every month. :-)
And if you pay for option of evening calls (Mon to Thurs) or anytime calls, you can call up to 40 countries free in the weekend (that's from 6pm on Friday until 6am on Monday), and free to call UK mobile too.
With Post Office Homephone off-peak on weekdays is from 6pm and not 7pm as with Virgin Media, BT etc.

I agree with you, however I firmly believe that as it's a subsidy it should be used for people who live in the middle of nowhere that wouldn't stand a cat in hells chance of getting Broadband as it's not worth any businesses time. The larger, more attractive villages should be tended for rather than giving free money to BT which they p**s up the wall. Clearly the current system isn't working. I'm not a supporter of any particular ISP.

I'm a Virgin employee and would be more than happy to answer any questions bout the deal and set anybody up for an install, sure there's something else I can do in addition to the £50 credit too, drop me a private message if you'd like to do a deal or any questions!

P.s if this isn't allowed and I get banned or whatever then fine or people have digs then fair enough cos I won't actually be checking this page again

I pay £27 for 50 meg broadband only with Virgin. How can I bring the price down?

Thats not all correct, Virgin is all underground, if the local council don't give virgin permission or permits to put the cable down. Nothing goes a head. I've dealt with Virgin over the last 3 years. Its nightmare for them, I've had to go with BT in certain areas, a friend is contracted engineer. Virgin has also putting in £3bn to expand the network, while BT get sub'd by the government, so much for the licence fee!

got this deal about 4 months ago. paid for line rental upfront. a week later I'm told they need to contact the property owner to install the lines. takes one month. was told installation would take 3 weeks. after that was told there's a "blockage in the system" and it would take 3-6 weeks to fix. I'm still waiting for them to tell me their lines have been installed.

I've decided to go with EE as I get 10gb data extra on my phone.

tldr; virgin sucks

I've had a few dealings with Virgin, permission is needed from the landlord / building owner. (Imagine if your the building owner and virgin/sky come a long and put cables in you dont want) if you follow the process, the permission takes a week, all depends if the landlord gets there act together and returns the forms/emails In good time.

They will raise their prices (esp for their broadband only customers) by say £1.75 per month each and every year, way above rate of inflation. The base monthly charge for their landlines does not include free caller display, free paper bill (as offered free by say Post Office Homephone, at £144 per year line rental if paid upfront).
Virgin Media will lure new customers with tempting offers, but overcharge you once the honeymoon period is over! Beware of sharp sharks!

If you have a friend on virgin ask them to refer you and the referral team will match uswitch and give another £20 credit on top of the £50 each refer a friend credit too.

Lets not forget BT HAVE to allow competitors use their network. BT wholesale own the network. BT retail is a service provider much like Sky and talktalk. Openreach maintain the network.

Virgin cherry pick their areas to serve, BT has a USO to provide any customer with a fixed line TELEPHONE service. You'll only here one side from VM.

Hi, just had a quick question. can i add unlimited calls to this package at a later date, like with other providers you can add 'bolt-ons' for unlimited anytime calls from home phone. can it be done with virgin media, thanks

Last time I did this, I managed to get £70 topcashback paid too, on top of a promo code and uswitch deal, I first went through uswitch, added promo code, went all the way to checkout, then on another tab went through topcashback, went to checkout and the uswitch deal was still there! TCB paid out too, and I then paid the line rental for a year to make it cheaper

I've never seen a deal that offers broadband without line rental. We aren't in a cabled street, so we can't get Virgin anyway.

We have just signed a new deal with Vodafone, transferring from Sky. We have Sky TV, so the new deal is based around fibre broadband and calls. We get unlimited anytime landline calls, 300 minutes landline to mobile calls, 72mb speed fibre broadband, and 12 months subscription to Netflix. The contract length is 18 months, and includes line rental. The monthly price is £32.99, which I think is very reasonable.

Lol Virgin complaining about BT ... Well I never - wake up and smell the coffee bud
BT have actually upped their game alot , and obviously using BLP football rights to lure customers away from
Sky and Virgin - it's a commercial descion they are not just buying the rights to watch themselves , they also are acquiring EE and they are British owned and domiciled unlike VM --- and TBH I would
Rather give my money to BT than Rupert Murdochs Newscorp , with it's disgusting military/prison industrial complex based agenda - I'm not saying I like BT but VM are no better and just cause some executive puts forward a few points about rural BB don't think VM are any better

The current BT deal seems better. Recently signed up for Unlimited Infinity Broadband (upto 40mbps) + free weekend calls + BT TV Box + BT Sports for £10 p/m+£17.99 line rental = £27.99 P/M for 12 months. Installation charges are one off at roughly £50.

In fact we're thinking about adding 20 premium channels for an extra £5 as there entertainment package offers only 8 more but gives you just the record facility as well. The free BT TV box allows you to pause/rewind and access the BT store and catch-up.

I don't know why everyone is paying so much and having a bad time with virgin, I pay £33 a month without a phone line for 150mb speed and my internet runs flawlessly, very occasionally does it play up and when it does I simply restart my router as and I'm up and running again

I got the contract though this site last month, however they charged me £37.00 instead of £25.00pm (inclusive line rental). I have rang them to explain the problem and sending the email confirmation from them which stated 25.00 per month for the first 12 months. They were very sympathetic with me. BUT they cant help me, because there is no one there can authorise the changes.

Bloody nightmare.

Use the subsidy on getting Broadband to customers that ISPs wouldn't touch with a barge pole, as it was intended to.

it's just an empty threat. I don't think they will let me leave. because I'm with ee for my phone and tablet I can get cheap broadband from them. it's something I can bring to the table when in haggling with virgin
