Thanks still have all the original discs from when I purchased it at release, so should give this a go sometime.

Get hold of the version that you can actually own - the one on cd-rom. It's all over the place and a lot easier to upgrade than the Steam version - in fact the installer for the massive mod I have actually mentions conflicts with the Steam version that don't exist with the cd version. It can be found for around a fiver these days for the version with all add-on packs. Would strongly recommend that option.

Yeah tried to do that recently and it all went pear shaped and had to redownload from steam.. haven't tried it again. But still a great game, probably the TES game I have put the most hours in. Including completing the main story at level 3 (properly not rushed).

I put 400 hours in to this game across 2 characters and my friend has had my copy for 2 years, will he is still playing... So this game must be doing something right...

Not dated if you install the massive mod available for it which upgrades textures MASSIVELY, along with sounds, balance and other aspects. Still suffers from what every Elderscrolls game suffers from though - bloody awful clunky combat. Hours of gameplay vs joyless combat. Swings and roundabouts.

I've seen the GOTY version around too, though quite a bit more expensive. Having not played any TES games since Daggerfall, which version would you recommend?

If you get GOTY you do get a hell of a lot more for your money.. but honestly don't miss out trying Morrowind if you have not played it (dated in some ways but still a great game).

Could any of you who have a bit of knowledge about pc gaming and system requirements please give me some sort of idea wether this would run badly, smoothly or excellent on my laptop... I've got an acer aspire with an i7 processor...

How much RAM? What gpu? Which model i7?

You really do need to give us more information about your pc, but I believe it is a safe bet that having an i7 (even if it is the dual core or very old) you should be able to run it at low/medium settings, if your machine is well balanced you should be able to play on high without issues.
It also depends on your resolution.
If you don't know, you can find these information in windows by typing system information in the search bar.
I really can't recommend this game enough, it looks absolutely stunning on a decent large 1080p screen and is very fun to play.

You can definitely play this, I could play it on my old laptop which was a pavilion g6, very basic laptop with the processor being equivalent to an old i3.
With an i7 I believe they have intel HD4000 inbuilt graphics, which I personally think is pretty awesome for free.
The question is what level of detail you should be able to play on, probably medium if your lucky but graphics really shouldn't matter if your enjoying the game.
Edit: On a separate note, this is regularly posted cheaply from different sources, is there anyone out there that hasn't yet brought this? :P

I used to be a bargain hunter like you, but then I took an arrow…etc etc etc
Stupid jokes aside, if you’ve not already played this, get it  Huge amount of game (not to mention all the free mods) for the price of a pint.
