You can't go wrong with a solid rock performance from one of the top brand, for that price that's a steal.

I presume the Fat Max stuff is Taiwan-made, but seems VERY popular, regardless and much sought after. Not cheap either. if I needed one, I'd have bought this. Hot.

Stanley are just rebranding the black and decker stuff. In my opinion black and decker have gone down hill with their tools but still for regular diy you cant go wrong with that. Theres also the bosch 680re always hanging around 35-54quid mark.

Also i would question homebases 100quid price mark too as you can pick up dewalt and makita trade hammer drills for less which are far superior quality.
For thos who dont know Stanley, Black and Decker, Dewalt... all same company now.

Makita and DeWalt for far less ????? Like, WHERE ?
I've never seen either at this price
Right. I thought you meant this price offered.
Was eagerly awaiting a link to a Makita for £50........(could do with a decent cheap reliable drill etc etc heard Lidl's Parkside are good at least on a par with Stanley's)

You want corded or cordless? What you using it for? People think they need a pneumatic drill to put a picture up and end up spending far too much for something they dont need or will ever use. Ill post some suggestions as its not all about the brands anymore (unless youre buying a trade drill for 3 years use at 400 quid)

Fire away ! Nice to see recommendations from someone who KNOWS what they're talking about on tools (ie - NOT me !) Cordless would be good, but DIY stuff, as I will HAVE to start doing something in the house. My wife does more than me !

I work as a joiner and can recommend Makita forever and a day. Buy once and as long as it's given simple DIY jobs it will operate perfectly as long as you own it. It's false economy buying cheaper kit. If it's DIY use your going to most likely only need the one battery (batteries are the main reason cordless cost so much) so don't bother with two or three, they're usually around £100 a pop. Trust me, buy Makita/DeWalt/Bosch kit and understand why you will never see people in the trade even consider buying black and decker rebranded crap.
HOT. Thanx. I have the Fat Max 18v drill. Quality product, with metal chuck and gears. If this checks out I will buy one.

Well I reserved and bought one yesterday and it does seem like a good quality drill for the price (especially with the 3 year warranty).
I would have been tempted with the more quality brands, but £50 was my absolute limit and that was pushing it as I only have to use a hammer drill maybe 5 times a year (I have a smaller battery Bosch I use for drilling wood and putting in screws the rest of the time).
I guess it can't be any worse than the Black and Decker drill that lasted me nearly 20 years until I burnt it out with a long 15mm bit drilling into 1 foot of wall a while back.

Anybody that is decided on this drill Argos have it for £40.99 at the moment.
I've only used it a couple of times, but seems like a good drill to me and the 3 year warranty is a big plus.

Nice and light so you can use it one handed / over your head etc;more easily.
Not really comparing like for like though as the fatmax is not an SDS drill.
I also have Hilti and Ryobi Cordless and a big drill like the fatmax that I just use for mixing plaster etc;with a paddle.
