Nothing is 'wrong' with them, a lot of members on the site have read that a new model has been released, attached to that information and asked at every given possibility if said post is the new chassis.
You will also find that most asking don't have a PlayStation 4, yet seem highly educated on an actual comparison

Easiest way to tell is look at the picture of the PS4, if it is matt only it is the new C chassis, if it has the shiny bit (as this one does) then it is older B chassis.

Supposedly it works louder and heats up more. The new chassis was designed to tackle those problems.

Actually the new model runs hotter than the old model and is just as loud on certain games, overall its quieter though, however to answer the original question there is nothing really "wrong" with the older models, they work just the same and its not a big improvement/fix like the old 360 to slim 360 was.

Its not just the noise with the newer model - draws less wattage = less £ for electric bills.
So the ammount this is used, probably works out better to spend the extra £30 odd for the new model as you will save this in bills in no time!
BigVern1984
14 Oct 15#30
The new new model is cooler, but can feel hotter on the case. Electronic need to move heat away from the core and to the outside to help cool down. The new ps4 does this much better, it's the cooler core which lets the fans spin slower.
Aeschylus
14 Oct 15#31
It's funny that as I find it is those who already have a ps4 constantly telling people there is none or not much difference, yet they don't own the new one, every independent test recommends buying the new one, that is why people ask as it is important... Now don't get me wrong if this was £200 I would say there is your reason to get the old version.... But anything within £50 people should absolutely get the new chassis
I saw one post yesterday where someone who owned a ps4 claiming the old one was a lot quieter than the new version
All in my opinion though

Sony haven't released the 1TB C Chassis into the UK yet. There's been a filing but no official model. So you can either wait and hope, or get playing now.
magicmagic to Demonic69
15 Oct 151#43
Of course they have released it and I think this is really not such a good deal here. I have bought 1TB console from John Lewis like 2 weeks ago £300 with Fifa 16. I have sold fifa in CEX straight away for £36 so my console cost me like £264, it's 1TB new c chassis and John Lewis offers 2 years warranty. And even then I didn't really consider my deal a great deal so I really don't know why this one is considered as hot deal :/ Weird...

15 Oct 15#51
It is worth noting, for those who don't know the decibel scale, that this test means the old PS4 is about twice as loud as the new one when playing games (since the scale isn't linear) which is a significant step up in volume. In real terms it is likely the difference of being able to hear the unit during gameplay with normal volume through your TV and not. Given the choice I'd pay a few more quid for a newer model, but if I already had the older model I wouldn't be in any rush to replace it.
Aren't the Nathan Drake 1TB bundles all the new model since they feature an all matte finish? A fair few people on here have reported getting the newer model in the past few weeks, I doubt they are all lying (and it isn't hard for Sony to make them since they are just a 512GB model with a 1TB HDD in instead). Where are you getting your information from that it hasn't been released in the UK?
Demonic69
15 Oct 15#53
There are some matte models (isn't the 1TB matte by default?) but I've not seen any CUH-12xxB models around. The "Ultimate Player" is meant to be matte but still the old hardware.
There's nothing saying it hasn't, just nothing saying it has. I've not seen any evidence anywhere that people have the 12xxB in their hands. If they do, excellent!

I have a new one and my kids have my launch day model. The new one is quieter but not by much. Once you get into a heavy gaming session they are both noticeable.
I have noticed that the newer model takes longer for the fan to spin down when you exit a game compared to the older model which the fans span down pretty much instantly.
I would buy which ever is cheaper and spend the saving on games tbh.....

The only time I've heard a PS4's fan being particularly noisy is when it's in a poorly ventilated area. A mate of mine keeps his under the bed with a valance covering the side so there's literally no access for air circulation under there (I have suggested he moves it because it won't survive long in that place). So the fan's going overtime. Mine on the other hand has a good 20cm either side and plenty of room at the back and I can honestly say even at a low volume I can't hear the thing. Good ventilation is the key to lower noise.
Saying that, I'm more envious about the non-touch buttons on the front of the new model. Can't clean the thing without accidentally switching it on. Irritating design and a perfect example of style over substance.
