Thanks for the heads up. I guess now is a good time to replace the **** of kitchen halogen bulbs with LED GU10s. Will head there in morning.

2700K vs 6000K;
4.2W vs 4W.

​2700 is warm white like a normal household bulb. 6000 is very blue and industrial like cheap hid car bulbs. 2700 to 3000k are normal household so go for that

Just had the email through with the LED bulbs in, just ordered the 6000k bulbs for the kitchen!

I recently bought these at Maplin and took them back out as they didn't provide the same amount of ambient light as my florescent GU10s. The beam angle on these is usually around 38degrees, so they don't flood the place with light

4000k tends to be the norm in LED lighting (cool white) you can get 3000k but they don't perform quite as well in efficiency terms and are slightly harder to find. 6000k will be too blue/white for all but the most clinical applications in the home.

He 6000k are a really white light with a very small hint of blue, just got mine in the kitchen, superb bulbs with a pretty good light spread too, and that's in daylight

6000K is pretty much the same as daylight, I personally prefer this in bathrooms and kitchens, because unless the bulbs are particularly cheap, you're going to get the best colour to see.

These aren't particular efficient, I've got 4W LED GU10s bought about 4 or 5 years ago, kicking out cool white light at around 450-500 lumens, obviously they were expensive when bought, but have already paid for themselves with the savings in electricity. Sadly the down side is I had to insulate the kitchen ceiling, by constructing a false ceiling with 3 different types of insulation, just to regain the warmth that was lost by ditching conventional lighting :-)

4000K is not cool white, it's basically moonlight and slightly cooler than the 3000K warm white lamps you usually get, though often warm white is up to 3600K from my experience. I think this is a good compromise if you don't want a clinical feeling to your room, but good luck finding 4000K, I've never come across them in my buying, thought I guess they must exist.

If you want anything more unusual there are plenty of online suppliers, supplying different beam angles, usually up to 120 degrees, since LED is basically linear, all lamps use some kind of lens, mirror or both to create an angle, it's purely up to the manufacturer to decide, 38 degrees just seems to be the standard for cheap LEDs, perhaps all produced in the same factory in China.

4300k is typical colour for factory fit HID/Xenon car lights and gives a crisp white. 6000k is quite blue in comparison

281 lumens is pants, spend the extra and get something around the 400/500 lumens.
