I cloned a Windows 10 drive very easily using Macrium Reflect (free edition) at it's default settings (initially connecting the SSD in a USB caddy). Basically when you install and run the software a box will appear with 'disk 1' and 'disk 2' - disk 1 will show any partitions and drive info that are on the main hard drive. You then click into the 'disk 2' (SSD) box and it will prompt you for how you want to transfer the info over (I just kept partitions the same and re-sized them later as the SSD was larger so there was some unallocated space left over). Worked flawlessly.
EDIT: Just remembered that someone posted a detailed guide on using Macrium Reflect on one of the old Sandisk SSD threads here - have looked it up and it's the one from 4 weeks ago with 109 comments and the guide is posted on the last page (page 6) of the comments.

Seeing a lot of these being posted recently and am tempted in the hope of a speed-boost for my aging Samsung 305U. If I wanted to do an 'in-place' upgrade, i.e. clone my existing HD onto the new SSD and then swap in the new one, then do I need to buy a USB to SATA cable separately in order to clone the old drive to the new? Or does one come bundled with these drives usually?

You'd need to either buy a cable or my method of choice is to stick both drives in a desktop PC and do the copy there

I used the e-sata connector to connect the brand new drive to my PC, then cloned my existing boot HDD to the new one using the free bootable version of Minitool's Partition Manager - linky
The whole process was seamless (moved from a 120GB to a 240GB) in a relatively short period of time. Hope this helps.

im replacing the superdrive in my late 2009 imac as it died about 2 years ago so i would assume its possible for a 2008 model just go slowly (ribbon cables etc attached to the back of the lcd) as i'd think it would be a pretty expensive repair if you broke one of them.
Also check the sata speed in "about this mac" being as this ssd is sata 3 (6gbps) i might be limited to 1.5gbps in your machine (ill know for sure when my caddy arrives) possibly the same with yours?
