You had best hope your shiny new SSD never breaks down.

I've just fitted a 256GB one to a six year old HP laptop i have and a fresh O/S install. Made an amazing difference.
I'm v tempted towards this drive. I've an alienware 13 gaming laptop too and this would just finish it off nicely.

And being a Sandisk it is more likely than say a Samsung.
I have owned 5 SSD - 4 Samsung and 1 Sandisk. The Sandisk broke down after 1yr losing data my wife had not backed up.
I have also had a Sandisk Extreme SDHC and MicroSD breakdown too - all genuine because Sandisk replaced them - but the data was lost...
The oldest Samsung is still working fine - as are the other 3.

Mine broke after 2 years, got a replacement under 3yr warranty.
Motherboard i got from them also died few years ago, got the replacement without any hassle.

Conversely, my oldest SSD is a SanDisk extreme which is 3 and a half years old, has ~12,000 hours of running time on it and is still working perfectly.

Last time these were this price I snagged one and put it in my 5-year-old Acer 7741 laptop; it really has been like having a whole new laptop. I can highly recommend one of these if you're thinking of taking the plunge

It's not 'hate' to correct someone who is simply spouting utter garbage. And if being a 'geek' means that you actually know something about a subject rather than proudly proclaiming your own ignorance ...

Can anyone advise if this could be fitted into a Dell XPS13 2015 model? I know it'll invalidate the warranty, but more a question for the future than right now.

Amazon prices are very reasonable if not cheaper.. especially for 500gb, no one needs 1TB unless you are downloading a **** load of music and movies.. and even if you do just install the 500GB SSD and use the mechnical Hd's for all the crap and porn that you have *
In fact I have at least 4 500gig hdd's and 2 1tb harddrives lying around, oh an a 2.5 usb tb samsung hdd so I simply do not need that much space! so why pay more than £100 more!!?

Has anyone used SSD with Photoshop or Lightroom and notice a difference ?
jaydeeuk1 to Links_Dad
9 Oct 15#35
Photoshop yes (not used lightroom).
My dev laptop has photoshop, SQL Server, IIS, dreamweaver and SSD makes photoshop load within a couple of seconds, versus 10s or so on a higher spec but HD equipped PC. Large image files load quicker too (I do a lot of astrophotography mosiacs running 100's of mb), your average photo won't make any difference, and once loaded in to RAM obv no difference then either. If you're the type of person who gets impatient for things to load, or thumbnails to generate in windows explorer, you'll love an SSD.

well have bought 5 ssd hard drives great prices twice or three times faster boot times single file transfers a lot faster on some of them but don't really see the point of having them theyre cuter but ultimately pointless prefer the plattered normal hard drives
