I missed out on the John Lewis deal the other day as the price has since gone up...that deal got over 1000+ heat.
While looking around at some other high street retailers I noticed Richer Sounds doing the exact same TV for the same price but with an extra year guarantee (6 years in total!)
Hope this deal helps anyone who missed out on the John Lewis one a few days back :-)

Don't even flinch. Just buy it ...
The features on this beaut is beyond belief. I can't believe how different this is in comparison to my Samsung plasma purchased 7 years ago.
I discovered a new feature today called "soap opera effect" where movies look silky smooth rather than slow and cinematic. It works particularly good with films with minimal action sequences. So I was watching The Godfather and it felt surreal. Like I was in the room with Don Corleone himself !

I would ask how many peoples eyesight is actually good enough to tell the difference between 4k and normal HD on a 48" TV at a normal viewing distance. I will put my hand up and say mine is not.
This TV for £500 backed by a 6 year guarantee is excellent value.
Lets see where 4k content is in 2-3 years time, by then you will probably get a 4k 48" curved TV for £500 or less if you want one.
And if curved TVs die out, you have a collectors item.

I can't believe I didn't buy a Samsung Smart TV years ago. The curve is a novelty in my honest opinion ... It looks aesthetically pleasing. But my god the Smart features are incredible. Screen mirroring with my phone is the icing on the cake.

Has anyone watched sport one this, possibly footy or tennis? I read some complaints from some regarding this, but that was on the 4K version. Others have not reported that problem, but maybe they don't watch sport, or have changed the settings, or they don't notice it...
Any feedback welcome, as I decide whether to get this or the 4K version.

With people slating 4K (not specifically on this thread), stating there is no content, isn't likely to be for a number of years, that you need a 60" panel to be able to see the difference, and that curved screens are a waste of time, is anyone else tempted to just get the 50" Blaupunkt for £299?
InAFalsetto
20 Oct 15#45
Well said.
With TV frames / body taking up less space it is feasible buying a huge screen. I will definitely own a 70" or more OLED 4k or 8k TV when the price hits the sweet spot and there is plenty of content.

I believe so so ; but lets say you brought from a company that delivered the wrong colour TV; under the credit act you could claim the money back from the card provider (goods supplied not as ordered) but under paypal I don't know how you would get redress.
Also in the case of buying a holiday if the company were to go bust then you can claim back from the card provider; don't believe paypal provides any protection for situations like this.....
But buying from Richer sounds & paying via paypal should be fine, but its nearly always better to pay directly with a credit card.

I'm not convinced by curved tv's, there's nothing wrong with a good quality flat screen.

That's what was said when curved screens were first introduce in cinemas. Aso said that diesel locomotives would never be as good as steam. The fact is, that the only reason curved TVs were not in use earlier was that the technology did nor exist. Later, it did exist, but there was no reason to mass produce it, because LCD was still selling like hot cakes at high prices. Now we have LCD with LED but prices are tumbling, so manufacturers have to go a step further to regain their profit margins, which is to make newer technology affordable for the masses. That's me, and probably most of you! I saw a 40 inch LG 4k tv for £499 in PC World a few days ago,and another last Saturday in the new Birmingham John Lewis store. A couple of years ago they were over £3000. I've thought about getting this curved one, because it's definitely a good deal, but I'm loath to replace my relegate my existing Samsung Smart tv to another bedroom just yet because (a) its only a few months old, and (b) I think there will soon be some bargains around for big screen TVs that are 4K AND curved. Unfortunately the 48 inch Samsung is still £1,799. http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue48js9000-curved-4k-suhd-3d-smart-tv-48-with-freeview-hd-freesat-hd-and-built-in-wi-fi.
Oh, they also have a 78 inch curved, 3D 4k Smart TV for £8,999! Nice when that tumbles. Please don't say its too big for the average UK room. That was claimed when 22 inch TVs came out. 80 inch TVs are big sellers in China and Japan where rooms tend to be smaller than ours. Its surprising how soon smaller screens seem to be even smaller the more you see a big ones. Still, heat for the OP, and good luck to those who get this deal.

You're right. But the six year guarantee is re-assuring. Plus a credit card only covers you for 365 days doesn't it ?

20 Oct 15#41
fyi if you pay using paypal you are not normally covered under the UK Credit Act in the same way as you would be when using a credit card (I try to use payay only for small transaction values or ebay). Though you are fairly safe with richer sounds imho.

Placed an order luchtime Sunday, received email saying my order is not an order.
The contract is not confirmed until the TV is despatched.
I hate this sort of thing, when I place an order for an in stock item I expect my order and the contract to be confirmed immediately.
I will phone them up tomorrow, any nonsense or ambiguity I will cancel the order / psuedo order, not really an order what ever it is.

It's a no brainer buying from richersounds due to the SIX YEAR GUARANTEE ... I mean, I plan on having this TV for around that long anyway. My last television (a Samsung) was purchased 7 years ago from Currys for £599. Sold it recently it for £160 on ebay as it was kept in very good condition.
I replaced it with an LG from Amazon for £350 which is now being collected and returned as I don't like the colour of the frame and how it looks with the rest of my home cinema setup (otherwise no complaints). I have now gone for this Samsung curved television instead. It looks the part and I hope the picture from it is impressive as well !
