The 840 Evo drive developed read problems for "old data". There is a firmware fix for the bug but I don't think it ever solved the problem completely. Either way the newer 850 Evo doesn't have any firmware issues and performs significantly better. It's worth paying a bit more for the newer drive in my opinion.
Don't do it these are dreadful drives once used, they slow down to almost a crawl and the fix from samsung was to constantly write to the drive which just makes it get smaller and smaller. Do yourself a favour and by something else, even a cheap slow sandisk is better than this. I ditched my 2 840 evo's and it's made my system much better.

Were EVOs affected? I knew Pro drives were but never found solid info if Evo was affected, I seem to remember their 'performance restoration tool' only supported the pro drives.

You probably need a 2.5" to 3.5" SSD adapter bracket to fit in your desktop. Voucher does work but your must select Paypal for payment before entering the code

I just remembered that I had the original 840 which is why the tool didn't work, not the 840 pro or EVO. I have since upgraded to 850 EVOs anyway

No, 840 EVO was admitted affected by Samsung but not recalled, and the plain 840 is clearly affected but Samsung has not admitted it.
=> on the will not buy list, with Kingston.

I can vouch for the 850 being probably the best upgrade I have carried out on a PC
The speed of these things v spinning is light years difference.
Also the migration software is _extremely_ good.
I cant recommend the 840 but the 850 is quite frankly stunning.
ps
I had to get a housing and 'adapter' for under a tenner can provide details (Dell PC W7)

This is what happens when you don't go on HUKD for a few hours. Can't believe I missed the code, could of got £50 off a DLSR I've been waiting on.

This doesn't sound right. The fix refreshes the data that is already stored on the drive. It doesn't reduce the amount of available space.
