Do not do this, you will be caught and banned. And you will be found again and again. They are starting to take this seriously as so many people are doing this.

Most people are unlikely to be that poverty stricken that they need to pretend to be a new customer again to get this deal. You mug yourself and everyone else off if you do, they just have to put the prices up, pay staff less and so on.

It's dead simple, the scale this is done on is huge and actually costing a lot. You defraud them, their profits suffer and the knock on effects are easy to think up... Lower staffing budget, supplier cost's, quality and so on.

Make sure you use the free codes first before you use the £18 off code otherwise you wont get the things for free. If the £18 off code is not working , just google it. They keep changing the voucher codes.

Anyway, a quick email to customer services (plus a whinge about some other long running issues) and I got an evoucher for £8, nice - except the online checkout doesn't see these coupons as cash (as Tesco do), so instead of having to spend the minimum £40 to use my delivery saver, I need to spend £48 or they want to charge me for delivery, lol!

All this "new" customer code chat reminded of my deliveries last summer. I placed 2 separate orders at the same using 2 different email addresses. The billing address, delivery address and payment card were identical, as was the delivery time. Used two 20off60 codes and obviously paid two separate £1 delivery charges. To top it off both orders were all alcohol. The orders went through without a hitch and the delivery driver just laughed at the deal I'd got and wanted an invite to the party!
IMO I don't think Sainsburys and Tesco are overly fussed about new customer codes being continually used by the same people. There may come a point where that might change and obviously a lot of deliveries will be cancelled or be bumped up to full price as Tesco did with the glitch that used to happen when you ordered half price groceries on a Tuesday amd could use a 15off60 code to get the shop for £15. All good things come to an end at some point.

Their bosses are only interested in sales and new customers. Sains make a phenomenal profit, £80 shop in store costs £46 at Aldi. Trust me they are making plenty of ca£h.

Do you honestly think they couldn't 'fix' this loophole if they wanted to? Try using multiple email addresses with the same card and address with a gambling site... they don't let you, because it's easy to detect.
Sainsburys. Tesco et all could easily stop it if they wanted to, but they don't, because:
a: it doesn't actually cost them that much. How many people do you really think do this? I'd guess at well under 1% of their customers.
b: As long as you are buying from Sainsburys with a big discount, you are not buying from Tesco or Asda or Morrisons...

Very true - don't know why people are complaining about signing up more than once. I haven't totally abused this - but have created around 2-3 accounts in the past.

Also the main reason people like Tesco's love giving discounts to new customers is that they can then show on their stats to the managers how many 'new customers' they have signed up.
They couldn't care less if you have ordered from them before with the same card and address details!!

CEOs of those companies are quite proud of their new £15 million yachts earned by shady tax avoidance practices and Tesco drivers don't get paid to check your passport in Interpol database when dropping off a bag of potatoes.

With wholesale prices large supermarkets pay their suppliers, £60 shopping basket costs them probably around £20 anyway. Everybody wins.

Creating a new account with a new email is perfectly fine. It's the same as what the rich people do with tax avoidance. It;s perfectly legitimate and saves you money.

The situation is a mixture of apathy and a computer system that was not really built with this in mind. Don't mistake that for a tacit acceptance of voucher gaming.
It could be fixed, but having messed up online in the past I think they are scared to touch the existing system. Also it would probably cost more than it would save to add it in. At some point they are going to have to build a new system, so they will probably add it when the time comes.
Actually, we do care about repeated use of new customer vouchers. Online is not a high-margin business, (we don't get free vans or free fuel, you know) so if we deliver to you every week at £15 or £18 off it's a waste of time. Problem is it has to be seen 'manually' so to speak because the half-baked computer doesn't alert us. Considering we do over 1,000 orders a week (and that is not a particularly big store) it's easy for multiple accounts to go unnoticed. It would only be by luck that I might happen to deliver to the same customer three weeks on the trot and each with a new customer code. I would make a note of that and my manager will look into it and see how many accounts they have and block the address.
Of course, like you say the cost is amortised over the whole company but we cannot allow it get out of control.
As to your point b) why would we be interested in retaining unprofitable customers? Tesco are welcome to them. Online is still expanding, so they will just be replaced with another customer who may be profitable.

So, "make hay while the sun shines" applies I guess. They will close the loophole eventually, then you will have to 'get over it.'

With regards to the computer system, I am by trade a technical business analyst, so I do know these sorts of systems. They already have checking systems in place, do you really believe it could seriously affect the integrity of the system to add another rule to check for duplicate accounts?
And that all the supermarkets have the same rule set and NOT one of them thought to implement duplicate user checking?
No, it wouldn't break it, there would be weeks of checks and back up systems in place. Really, it wouldn't break it!

And as for unprofitable customers... Yes, they DO want them! An unprofitable customer will one day buy things that are profitable... It costs FAR more to gain a customer than to KEEP one. Once a habit is formed it is VERY difficult to get a customer to break it. Why do you think they give out these vouchers in the first place??

THe people that DO actually 'game' the system, how many times do even the most dedicated ones do it? Probably 4 or 5 times? at most? So how much do you really think this costs the super markets? A tiny amount overall, and in the mean time, threads like this pop up, and sainsburys get a few hundred more on line customers...

You are just a moany **** employee of the company, I have many friends who work higher up at Tesco, know that people often abuse the "new customer" codes but don't bother to fix the loophole because they literally don't care, in fact, they often TELL other people to use the codes and make the most out of it. Supermarkets STILL make masses of profit even when you use the new customer codes, you should know that if you work as a delivery driver....

On a personal note, I work as a system analyst on a daily basis, I know the inside and outside of the EDI system that Sainsburys or Tesco use and how easy it is to refuse an order using a new customer code based on an address that has already previously used a new customer code in the database, even a first year 16 year old college student would learn how to do this. The margin of "lost profits" from these online vouchers are simply not worth bothering about at all.

Whilst I'm not a mathematician, even I know that when a large Supermarket buy a wholesale (50,000+) lot of Coke for 40p a bottle, sell it to you for £1 and you take your 30% (£18 off £60) discount off it, they're still making a profit from you.

Edit: As above, if you check the profits that supermarkets make, do you think they're making small or big ones from our custom? Why do you think they're able to offer half price, buy one get one free and other deals? They're such a massive company that they can afford to buy their items at the cheapest deals possible due to wholesale purchases (50k units+ @ 40% of the actual price we pay). When a stock level gets too high that they're not selling enough, their internal system will automatically discount these items for the next working day/week, which is why you often see Coke at £1, Pringles at £1.29 and other popular items such as that.

You misunderstood me, I said that Sainsbury's is doing just fine and whether someone(or some 1000 people) gets 18£ off won't even be felt in their profits, I possibly didn't express myself clearly enough. But they do have people who analyse their business and how much they are making money from various marketing and promotion campaigns and well a reasonable thing to do about a promotion that is not working is to change it.

It took them four years to remove a single unneccessary prompt, so you will be well in there if you can usurp the current IT contractor and get things done faster!
Some of the more dedicated customers have up to 60+ accounts which we regard as taking the mick. 4 or 5 accounts? As you say, less of a problem and less likely to be noticed.

Even 16 year old student should also know that people might share the same address (I've lived in a flat with 5 other students once as an example), or people could simply move in to a flat previously occupied by Tesco customer.

It takes much more complex algorithm to filter those out than "IF $ADDRESS EXISTS THEN..."

It's much easier, cheaper and better for the company to accept tiny percentage of dogs ordering discounted orders from time to time than refuse a legitimate customer who will never visit your store again after this.

You sound like a nice person. Yes, of course the company makes an overall profit, but you need costs getting out of hand. We already guessed from the state of the accounts that your Tesco friends don't care.
If nobody is interested, why does my manager specifically ask me to watch out for it, and why has he been instructed to actively seek out and bar users with multiple accounts? The ability to just bar an address might be too much of a blunt instrument, after all people do move and multiple people may live at that address.

Why do we feel the need to cheat the system? It's because generally, we are being ripped off on a day to day basis. Whether it's food, bills, etc, we are paying massively over the odds to line massive corporatiions with profits. Do these corporations care about the poor people getting poorer? No. They care about profits. We the customer are just the same. We care about our own bank balance. If there is a legitimate way to keep that healthy, we will use it.

I didnt read every comment made here admittedly but what i will say is that wages will not be affected by people abusing offers like this.

I believe the sainsburys wages are based on inflation/the national minimum wage. Wages have always been about 20p above the minimum as an incentive to keep people in work there. Last month the minimum wage earners saw an increase of 28p an hour to do with the living wage thing

What is affected by profit however is the yearly bonus that all eligible employees receive. If the company hits what i believe is called a profit gateway, basically a target threshold, then the company will pay out its bonus. The amount of the bonus each member of staff receives depends on how their store/region have done. This is measured by things like sales and mystery customer visit scores.

Last year when the target wasn't reached the company still paid out the bonus to those who earned the lowest. The only ones to suffer were those in higher up roles who earn plenty anyway.

At the end of the day sainsburys are a private company, no one goes in to business to not make money. People complain about prices of things but have the choice to shop elsewhere. No one holds a gun at your head and forces you to buy there. I can't afford to shop at prada so i shop somewhere else, how much prada makes per item doesn't bother me one bit because get real, you can't afford it find an alternative.

Anyway pretty sure sainsburys would do anything to get you through the door, if there's a chance you'll buy something else while using these offers then they'll be very happy. Sometimes its not worth "fixing" codes if it gets you details and insight on the shopping habits of customers in different locations.

I mean really. Having a go at folk for saving a few quid against a huge business in a capitalist system? Operators like Sainsburys, Tesco etc squeeze everyone and everything for every penny they can. Manufacturers, suppliers, customers, you name it. They're aggressive in shutting down competition and small family run businesses. They'd monopolise the economy if we didn't have laws against it.

And if you think that folk using vouchers a few times have any effect on salaries you're mad. Bonuses at the top maybe (yet unlikely to have that effect either), but salaries lower down, no chance. They pay as little as they can get away with, regardless. Driver in my area for Sainsburys said they pulled in over 100mil profit in a quarter in just one small zone, yet he gets paid £7.20 an hour. Went on a full rant about it, said they get paid around 20 to 30% less than a Royal Mail driver.

If they cared that much about re-use of the first time delivery codes they'd make it once per household, and use the postcode and house name/number (compared against the Royal Mail postcode address database) for validity not the email address. Or lock accounts after a nectar card

Ultimately they and their insurers/risk management advisors will have decided that it's worth it to take the hit. We on HUKD are out for bargains, so the fact so many people here do it isn't to be taken as standard - the vast majority of people out there probably do not and are the bread and butter of the already loss-leading home delivery services from the big supermarkets.

The free item codes - well they'll be incentives from the manufacturers and wont be costing Sainsburys anything at all.

This thread turned out to be comedy gold. It appears there are employees telling you all what the situation is regarding the abuse of the offer, the effects, and how they are actively trying to combat this in a slow, half arsed way. There are customers saying that they have actually been banned just on their second attempt at this. Yet there are so many keyboard warrior experts with some silly opinion, spouting their opposite assumptions as gospel.

Maybe as so many people are going to do it now, that the offer or whatever you want to call it, will die a death. Like so many do once they have come on here.

I would not do the new email trick simply because it's trashy, I bet those who do it answer the door in their pjs. Amusingly one of their drivers actually suggested I do it and I'm sure they could clamp down in it if they wanted to.

I placed an order yesterday, but it said that the FREETROP code was not recognised, I emailed customer service and they advised that only a maximum of 5 codes can be used. never heard this before and all the free items were listed on their website, not 'using other peoples' codes

the same for me. they gave me a voucher for £2.20, but can only be used on the nominated account :/

Think that's happened to me but can't understand the receipt! It obviously doesn't itemise the discounts

should of been a refund, dont just accept a voucher

I support the Sainsbury's sensible approach of offering a proper reusable bag for 5p rather than the flimsy bags which Asda is charging for. However Asda's bigger bag for life has been reduced to 6p which means Asda customers will really go for the bigger reusable bags. What annoys me in this whole 5p bag story is that the Govt wants it to be VATable even though they will not allow retailers to deduct the actual costs of supplying the bags. It simply makes no sense.
In fact, when I ordered online at Sainsburys, I was sent a reusable bag at no cost to seperate the non-refrigerated items from refrigerated ones.
