I love Destiny, I have sunk more time into it on my PS4 than all of my other games put together.
I bought the original game on release, then the season pass.
I object to paying full price for another add on, which includes the parts I've already paid for.
I object so much that I ordered it yesterday and sold my original game for £10 on eBay. So the upgrade has cost me £25ish pounds. I'd have happily paid £20 for a digital DLC of the Taken King, so not far off.
I've resisted long enough.

I think it's a bit harsh to label some of the above as Destiny bashing and lumping feedback in with something that's "all the rage". As you said it's down to preference. I don't think it was a bad game, just not one that has staying power for me. Rather than all-action or story-driven, it's very repetitive and a grind...and has some guy that gives you weekly deals on weapons. I didn't care much for the Witcher either. I am however looking forward to Fallout, where I feel you can sink hours into it, find a new area or new weapons that makes the remainder easier. Bethesda seem to know what they are doing to keep people engaged in their game, if you don't want to deviate from the main story, you don't have to- but you are invariable rewarded (or mauled by Deathclaws)! My point before was to say that as a business model they've well and truly shafted a lot of folk, and now Fallout 4 is coming with a pre-order season pass?! Need to hold back on purchasing these things, becoming all too common.

Do you not understand the idea of preference?
I have Witcher 3 and find it really boring. I find the controls very clunky (I did buy it for PS4 and that's my mistake as prefer Xbox controller) but would not say it's rubbish because I don't like it. Let's save "the game is rubbish" for titles that deserve it like Aliens Colonial Marines for instance.
I do however understand that Destiny bashing is all the rage at the moment.

The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece that makes Destiny look rubbish, that will be one of the titles up for game of the year. I havent been on that game since August, its soooooo bloody big. CD Projekt Red continue to refine the game, stamping out bugs and silly quirks. This is a game I am saving for the xmas period when I have more spare time. I should say that I won't mind buying DLC for the game, given its excellent status.

ive sunk nearly 400 hours into monster hunter 4 and that came out at the beginning of the year, although i was unemployed for the first month the game came out and drowned myself in the game to not be depressed by my employment status. 80 hours probably wouldnt get you 1/10th of the way into monster Hunter, in fact i dont even think im halfway through at 400.

Seriously though, this is a game for playing online with friends. It is what it is. Think about this....COD, huge yearly seller. People don't buy it for the 7 hour solo campaign, they buy it for the hour after hour spent competing online for the rest of the year.
Well Destiny is no less than that, and probably more. There's a better story and background than most COD, the weapons are incredible and it's just one of the best shooters out there. Yes it was rubbish year 1 but it's sorted now. Yes many missions are repetitive but so for goodness sake is multiplayer COD.
Highly recommended. If it isn't your thing or you find you don't like it, just move to something else. Sorted

So in other words there's a real cross section online and maybe some do fit the sad lonely description. Yes to be honest there's a better atmosphere in the evenings when most working gamers come online.
At least we're not being really sad....dressing up in silly matching tops and spending loads watching 11 men chase a ball around a field at weekends

13 Oct 15#47
Not even that. I know in all likelihood it will be a great game, but look at recent trends of companies releasing games buggy and unfinished or one platform getting a broken version of the game. If I have to wait a few more days for a game I wasn't even expecting to be released this year a couple of months back for a bit of peace of mind, then so be it (it's not like I don't have lots to play as it is anyway).
Dichotomy
13 Oct 15#45
Picked up a PS4 a couple of weeks back and got this shortly after. I had little interest in it in its first year due to the business model it employed from launch (I never pre-order games and will wait for both critics and the public's reaction to games before deciding whether to purchase), but it has been almost my exclusively played title since then, although I am only level 20 so far. Even if I only reach the end game and then stop I still reckon it will only work out less than £1/hour which is pretty good value if you ask me.
If you're new to the series, like me, then I would fully recommend picking it up, but at the same time I can see where all the negativity comes from. Those who already owned the game are getting milked by Activision who are charging far too much to their existing customers. Moral of the story is to not pre-order, always wait for a good cross section of critic and community feedback to make an informed decision, never buy a season pass without knowing exactly what you are getting and always realise the GOTY or equivalent version will be far better value if you can wait long enough for it.

My PS4 came with Destiny, and I have to say I have continued to come back to it time after time again.
The Taken King expansion really improves the whole experience. I bought the Collector's Edition of TTK because I thought you know what - even if I don't like the expansion, I've spent so many hours in the last one I'd love to have a real "memento" of a game I've loved.
I'm pleased to say that TTK has definitely got me back into Destiny. Compared to the Year 1 content, it feels a lot less grindy, and there are always more things to do.
If you get into it, I highly recommend checking out the Destiny community on reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/ ) and using one of the fireteam websites (such as http://www.destinylfg.net or http://www.destinylfg.com ) to help find yourself a group and take on some content that way. Some of Destiny's hardest content, the raids, is designed for groups of six players. Very challenging content but very rewarding when you crack it
Hope that anyone who buys this has as much fun as I've had!

For someone buying into the franchise for the first time, it appears to be a good deal. For those who bought the first game and dlc its a slap in the f**king face. It is a miserable excuse of a franchise which completely took the mick out of those who first adopted it. This is MMO style subscription by the back door, why can't the lame **** **** be more upfront and operate a monthly fee system, that way there is none of this crap like now and content would be significant and consistent. This is an ok price, although people may have noticed older versions of the disk game have dropped in price because it doesn't include the dlc.
Whats worse is this franchise is apparently being planned around an 8-10 yr life span, so this is going to become a regular thing. I understood that the initial release was always going to be the base game only and then further DLC, but the taken king release really sticks the finger at those (like me) who invested from the outset. Either way any current owner of the game will find it an expensive upgrade, versus those new who get the whole kit and kaboodle.

Feel the same way! Funny thing is people say 8-10 year project and next year 'Destiny 2' will be launching..... What with 50% of the content from Destiny last year and this year?! No matter what people will be getting annually shafted with this experiment. To those who have invested hundreds of hours, whats another DLC pack, for those who got the game cheap, whats another DLC pack, eventually by year 3-4 people will realise.

I sometimes feel the same as I find it shocking people could sink 80 hours of their lives into this stuff. Then again maybe they're very young or something. Maybe that would explain the expenditure on this game. I got the original game and played it for about an hour or so but couldn't get into it. So I gave it away. This was given to me as a gift and I must admit I played it a little bit more and have not got into it either. Firstly I detest multiplayer games. SOmething about going around the same map over and over again doing the same thing doesn't work for me. I think I need a storyline and a campaign. Others may not require such immersion or mental stimulation but I do.
Secodly I was feeling the burnout for years from the constant dlc, season pass, day one payments etc for games and I had plodded along but destiny was the one game which actually did it for me. It was the game which made me promise myself I would no longer buy games on the pc steam/origin, on consoles and I would never ever pay for digital content even in terms of movies. If I did it would have to be few and far between. Gladly I have stuck with this trend.
I am not judging or criticising anyone but I completely agree with you, how much spare time and money does one need to have to not only invest hundreds of hours of your precious life into this game but also first buy the original game, then an expansion, then a SECOND expansion, then buy the THIRD expansion which costs as much as the original game itself. Then worry about extra pre-order or console specific downloads. Now they are doing microtransations?
Sorry, no frog off. Enough is enough.

I sold my orginal Destiny for like £13, then brought the TK one for £33 from simplygames on release. So all 3 DLC's for £20 that's a steel in my books.
however it does suck if you paid £40 base game + £20 house of wolves + £20 dark below + £40 Taken king . £120 game?
Even battlefield doesn't milk it that hard! (saying that hard line was a £40 expansion)
However if this is a 'ten year' game, you could see a similar DLC pattern every year.....

Bingo. I didn't have much interest in the crucible though I did have a team for raids. It just got too repetitive too quickly. I don't have much time to game these days, so games such as this are probably a waste of time. I was looking forward to it before release, I just didn't expect so much grinding and exploring the same landscape. I got bored relatively quickly, and recognise I didn't invest much time into it, but it speaks more for the game if players are opting out at this stage instead of racking up 100s of hours for little gain, or a slightly higher number next to their profile. Each to their own I suppose. I would recommend for future releases the holding off for GOTY editions and then you'll get the finished article of a game - and perhaps stop rip offs such as this!
Justme1969

I sunk about 3 to 4 months of transient playtime into vanilla Destiny - thoroughly enjoyed it, although I did feel a certain addiction creeping over me, so I stopped playing.
I take it you weren't invested in Crucible then? 20 hours is a paltry amount of time in Destiny to be honest.
The game tends to guide a player towards Crucible ultimately, so if you don't enjoy PvP or can't find a team for Raids, then yeah, I reckon buyer beware :stuck_out_tongue:
Justme1969

I think it depends what a person does in their spare time and not everybody has a family life as such, there are numerous loners out here in the wilds who rather than watch TV at night, play games like this one.
But yeah, I'm pretty sure there are hosts of lost souls, sick, disabled & jobless populating the Destiny servers in the day time. Which may not always be such a bad thing? Especially with disabled players - would we prefer they sit in these poorly equipped & under-funded day centres feeling miserable, or feel at least reasonably comfortable at home playing a video game that makes them feel connected & part of a community with goals in mind; albeit goals built around systems geared towards a degree of psychological addiction :innocent:

It's disappointing to see early adopters shafted in this way. I know there's a degree of 'that's what you are getting yourself into" but there has to be some middle ground surely?! It's idiotic to ask folk to pay so much for a shell game, 50% again each for the DLC packs and then hide a third one behind a GOTY edition where you need to buy it again?! Sorry, no frog off. Enough is enough.
however it does suck if you paid £40 base game + £20 house of wolves + £20 dark below + £40 Taken king . £120 game?
Even battlefield doesn't milk it that hard! (saying that hard line was a £40 expansion)
However if this is a 'ten year' game, you could see a similar DLC pattern every year.....
But yeah, I'm pretty sure there are hosts of lost souls, sick, disabled & jobless populating the Destiny servers in the day time. Which may not always be such a bad thing? Especially with disabled players - would we prefer they sit in these poorly equipped & under-funded day centres feeling miserable, or feel at least reasonably comfortable at home playing a video game that makes them feel connected & part of a community with goals in mind; albeit goals built around systems geared towards a degree of psychological addiction :innocent:
I say let them play and be happy.
Life is short & often miserable.
I'd be all over that after spending hundreds of hours on it so far.
I am trying to resist, but the temptation is strong.
I should of waited in hindsight and bought this as it actually feels like a complete game now.
I bet alot of you guys feel the same, still leveling up at the moment.
Unfortunatly I can't see into the future, so i'd have no idea you'd see the "whole" game for this price
If this ever drops below £20 then maybe i'll bite but i'm not paying for 2 DLC I already have.
