Wow!! This would be more painful if it was faulty as you have pretty much no protection or support from members experiences. However, you would get so much phone for the money if it worked for a few years!
Personally I'd think twice before going in on this one at the moment, the DooGee F5 for £84 through the BangGood app would be my choice.
Voted hot because this phone is an absolute beast! It would've been nice to see a 5,000-6,000mah battery though as the processor will munch away at the battery life pretty quickly. Just seen that the screen is an energy saving technology so maybe this won't be such ADV issue
Thanks for posting OP, love it!

I have given up on this phone and bought a lg g4 that is 5 months old off eBay for £205. You will be waiting for months for this phone if it ever gets shipped. Will be out of date hardware by the time its shipped. Better off with s5 or nexus5.

I recall reading that the Vowney was going to be a dual-boot device with Android and Windows 10?

3 Nov 15#76
To answer my own question, there are going to be 3 versions of the Vowney: Lite, regular and Pro. The Pro version will be a dual boot Android 5.1 and Windows 10 device with an Intel chip. It'll cost about £60 more than this one. No word on release date as yet. I'm somewhat concerned at the fact the regular Vowney is close to release and I have yet to see a hands on review in the press.

oops - I got that wrong, and can't edit my post on the HUKD app for some reason.
The IMX230 is used in the Moto X style, and is pretty good, but not used in the Z5, which is a newer 23mp sensor.

sounds superb, wonder if its the same camera thats on the z2, pretty impressive if it is
anyone with an older elephone, did you ever get any official updates or are you stuck with what it came with unless you custom rom it?
damcnaught to irradiated
13 Oct 15#72
It's the same camera as the Z5 - far better than the Z2's in theory (possibly the best currently available), though how good it is will depend to some degree on software optimisation.
If the camera is indeed equal to a Z5's & there are no big issues, I may have to get one of these.

Some of you just make do ffs. Not everyone obviously but why the need to keep buying phones? You should aim to get at least a couple of years out of a smartphone in my opinion.
You're just unnecessarily helping to prop up a shady manufacturing industry and contributing to unethical work and environmental practices.

I had not even considered the ethics as was too busy on the 'shiny new toy' aspect, but you likely have a valid point - why are they so cheap?

Personally I now have a bottom line before I buy another phone.
1) if the ZTE V967s I have that I bought in 2013 conks out
2) the new phone must have 128gb ROM (the tech is already there), 4gb of ram, octa-core and be priced around 100 pounds.
Laying down those terms ensures I get a decent amount of use out of my current phone and also means I won't end up with 10 crappy Elephones over the next year or so.
Except that they've produced these materials in English, so that makes no sense whatsoever.

This isn't the case with Elephone; they don't sell into China to any extent- they focus on EU, mid-East, other Asia. With the P8000 they did a "world" phone in order to try to sell into the US. No idea if it worked.

I have had a P8000 for a while, it has niggles but it is actually better then the 2.3 ghz zenfone 2 i had before it, it's faster some how, even with a 1.3 ghz processor, battery is far better to, thats all i really need so for this to have better specs then the zenfone 2 and cost pretty much the same, i might pick this up
schnide
11 Oct 15#63
I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you really saying it's acceptable for a company that invests millions in designing, manufacturing and shipping a high tech device to not spend a couple of hundred on making sure the promotional materials say what they think they're saying?
Experience or not, this is the internet age - you or I could find a qualified translator/proof reader within five minutes. I imagine they had some time longer than that to put their marketing materials together.

IMO the P8000 is excellent. The lack of Gorilla Glass is a concern so I have to be extra careful with it.
The specs on the F5 are the same except it's got a smaller battery so that's the real compromise. P8000 is circa £100, F5 is £85 so more throwaway.. I've ordered the F5 so will be able to compare them when it arrives (soon hopefully). Both offer a lot of phone for the money!
