Posting this as a heads-up to anyone who collects for - or still plays on - their PS2. In my local Poundland this afternoon there were new copies of Red Card football and DJ Hero. Seen Xbox 360 games in there before but never PS2 games - I also can't find anything on HUKD relating to this, so it might be a first.
The interesting thing about them was that DJ Hero is definitely brand new, as the Sony PS2 shrink wrap is covering the case.
A sealed copy goes for £3-4 delivered on eBay and Red card is about £4 delivered for a copy.
The rear of the cases have an iGamz.co.uk sticker on them - they're a massive supplier of games - so I suspect that there will be more titles than just these two. So there may be some really solid titles knocking around.
Given there's a Poundland on every high Street in the UK then if you're interested it won't take long to nip in and have a look.
Might be cold as the depths of space but might be a fun dip into nostalgia for some out there.

Ps2 prices are now rising, as a big collector myself I recommend you fill out any gaps in your collection before it goes the way of the 16 bit era where everything is rare and L@@K and boot sellers tell you it's worth £1million on eBay. Go to eBay then you #%&@!

Seen DJ hero millions of times, the only PS2 games they have are ones which need special accessories or ones which you couldn't stand playing for 5 minutes!

Discs wouldn't be out of the question as it would look bad on Sony to force download only option when MS will let people use their discs as well.

That's fascinating; thanks for the reply. Searching on that topic brought me to some excellent blog posts about it. Had never contemplated modern 'practical' uses for the old consoles.

There's a bit of a unique situation with PS2 games as it's not only retro collectors who are interested in them. There is also demand from prisoners as being internet-incapable it remains the most advanced console they're allowed in their cells.

Tried to modify my PS2 to make it play backups. But i accidentally ripped the ribbon connecting the power button to the motherboard. Ashame, because i enjoyed DJ Hero on it. Got a lot of high scores :sunglasses:

The games themselves that I picked up are kind of irrelevant to be honest - I mostly wanted to point out that there appears to be PS2 games circulating around the Poundland stores relatively recently. I had no idea that they had ever stocked them so thought it might be a useful thing to know - as I said in the OP it might be that your store happens to have some more interesting titles.

Didn't DJ come with a controller to go with it originally? Can't imagine it will be worth much without, even if you can play it with a normal controller.

Eh the games are technically "cheap" but these sort of PS2 games have been in poundstores for ages and are pretty much worthless shrink wrapped or not. I have even seen ps3 and PC games that are equally as worthless in poundshops too that are way more deserving of some sort of heat. Gona have to vote cold, sorry.

With poundland blurays, umds, ps3 games etc they only have limited numbers each delivery so people can clear them. Popped in poundland and a woman was putting blurays out and a guy bought every single one.

How funny, I've never seen a single copy; f anything for the PS2 and I go in a lot as it's where we get all our cleaning stuff from.
Guess it proves the point in a way - worth putting your head in to see what they've got.

There's no poundland on our high street, and the nearest is a 6 mile drive each way! But otherwise a good deal.

Exactly - bit of a niche market these days, but there's a lot of us retro collectors out there and it just might be that there's some good action titles or non-sports titles just been delivered to the stores.
