Went into Pc World today and they had all the 1st genration now tv boxes Reduced to 9.99 with either the 2 month Movie pass or 3 Month Entertainemnt pass included.
worth getting for the vouchers alone really, even if you don't need the box, or use it as a spare

So, if I buy two of these I will have 6 months of passes for my existing 2nd Gen box? Or will they somehow be tied to the unit they are purchased with?
cliosport65 to androoski
9 Oct 15#3
No they are not tied to the unit you bought it with, you can use the vouchers on any box, hope that helps

You can use any pass on any box. Use the code and sell the box on EBay

When I quit, they offered me to reduce price to £5/month. It might be worth to try if you are not happy to pay full price.

from what i've read the vouchers will work on any account, i was looking at the 25 voucher on the shelf above, and thought i might as well just buy two boxes and save my self a fiver and get an extra month.

You cannot stack vouchers for the same type ( entertainment , films or sports ). You would have to wait until one voucher has nearly expired before adding another.

when the box says it includes two months of movies, doors it actually mean two months worth or does it mean the first month free for new accounts and one month more with the voucher?
Coreydeals to redduck
10 Oct 152#22
Two months. You'd then have the extra month on top if it is a new account, just take the new account offer first, before applying the voucher.
So 3 months for new accounts taking the new account offer.
2 months for existing customers adding the voucher.

Just a warning, we bought our box months ago and when we came to use the voucher for Movies this week it wouldn't accept it as it was expired - even though we couldn't see anywhere in the info that the code had an expiry date. Anyway, a quick phone call got our code accepted, so no problem, but something to bear in mind.

Not a great deal at Currys.
I've been into Currys this morning to get one and it is £9.99 as stated, but only if you are also buying a TV at the same time.
I'll check PC World in an hour or so and report back.
UPDATE 1 hour later:
Turns out they hadn't updated the shelf pricing, £9.99 it is, see my update post #28.

Still £14.99 in my currys, must be store specific.

My bad.
Update to my previous comment #25.
I went to PC World but due to abominable customer service I got nowhere.
So I went back to Currys where the pricing is still £14.99 as marked on the shelf. Took one to the checkout and asked them to check the price. It came up £9.99, all happy now, thanks OP!

10 Oct 15#37
They can't....and never have....the only time people get 'fined' is by self admission and the old scare tactics, no TV detector Vans ever worked and from what I've seen had no or little equipment in them, they don't own equipment that can 'target' individual homes or have any powers to enter anyones home....
gordo1964
10 Oct 15#38
The new boxes are set up for 1080 but this is for the future as Now tv is still 720, which is what the old boxes could output. I think you can use external memory on the new boxes - but for what use I am not sure.

10 Oct 15#41
Yep, IIRC they (BBC) have never proved in a Court of Law EVER that someone was watching TV without a License by ANY method they claim to be able to 'detect' what you're doing. They have NO powers whatsoever to enter your home (They can with a Court Order but need to prove you are watching without a License but they can't do that without physically seeing you watch Live TV) and have just for years bullied and scared people into paying when sometimes you didn't need to.

I'm sorry this is slightly unrelated, but I don't really understand plex or Roku benefits in addition to now tv. Is there a way of watching a series (eg caste season 7, which is not on now tv box sets) by streaming using these methods. Forgive my ignorsnce, I've done a Google search and it's all a bit above my head. Thanks!

Thanks op, just bought 2 today, 1 movie & 1 entertainment - they had plenty in the Leamington spa store. Only problem is, I'll probably see even less of my teenage daughters now, but they're over the moon & are currently having a movie night in their bedroom

John Lewis has the new HD box for £15, including a choice of pass.
New HD box extras:
1080p content (future proof)
Micro SD card reader
USB port
7.1 surround sound support
so surely the new HD box for an extra £5 is the better option?
