I've bought this mainly for my other half who records beauty videos etc. I suppose it will be used for the odd creative moment with pics and holidays. Based on this is it worth it to buy via Jessops for the VR II lens or with John Lewis standard VR lens but 2 year guarantee? Both same price

listen guys I wouldn't buy this for a number of reasons. if you're after a basic camera point and shoot style get an rx100 as its lens is better. if you want a more fully featured camera get a Panasonic g7 or Sony a6000 or if you prefer a DSLR a canon 760d or d5500.
yes they are all more expensive but this Nikon isn't as good as the d3300 and the viewfinder is awful on these, small and dark. also you will shell out on extra lenses as the Nikon kit isn't that great.
I would also consider an lx100, great all around camera.

Picked mine up for £270 as a grey import from a place that doesn't seem to be liked to be posted about here.
I'd go VR II over VR. As well as the VR II being an upto date model, it's lighter, more compact and has a lock facility on it. I've only just realised the benefit of that (had it as the standard 18-55 mm lens) as I've bought the 55-200 mm VR which doesn't have a lock on it and so when putting the lens on to the camera I find myself twisting the lens body. Not a big issue but the lock facility is quite nice.

VRII Lens is definitely sharper, close focus is better too.
I was thinking the same thing. Also that camera had the compact VR II lens which is worth more.

I'd just like to point out this camera is not as good as one that costs 10 times as much. No need to thank me, I just noticed no one had pointed this out yet.

I would just like to point out that you already pointed this out :stuck_out_tongue:
I have one and the camera doesn't have wifi. You can buy a wifi adapter though. personally don't see the point. I got an infra red remote from ebay for £2 delivered!

They look great don't they but I suspect many of these (especially sunsets etc) have been through HDR processing. I was disappointed with landscapes with variable lighting. I know I would have got better results taking multiple images with a tripod but if you are on holiday sometimes you don't want to muck about too much. It would probably be the same with most cameras but its made me decide to upgrade to the D5300 which lets you do exposure bracketing and HDR.

I bought the 5300 not so long ago which has wifi. I've found i don't really use it. It can work as a remote shutter but you can't change settings. Can send pictures to phone, but not to computer etc

I just bought the Panasonic Lumix tz55 for 99.99 from Argos. It seems very good and has loads of features for a compact camera

I don't think this does have the WiFi connection, I think that's the 5200. I have the 3300 (which is the next model up to the 3200 as far as I'm aware) and that doesn't have built in wifi.
I posted a deal for this that was £45 cheaper with the VR2 lens earlier this week that went immediately cold and reported as spam/deleted as from a grey import company. Good company who I bought a mobile phone from, absolutely no issues.

This has the android wifi ability, is this a worthwhile feature bearing in mind an extra £40 for the wifi dongle.

Good camera, normal price.
Anyone not in a huge hurry, bear in mind Nikon usually run a cashback promo in Nov/Dec (at least have last two years).
My view: the extra features of D3300 aren't worth the extra cost, but this is a lot better than the D3100 - making this the best entry level Nikon for me.

Do you know roughly how much cash back they do? I'm thinking of getting this camera and want to work out what sort of price to wait for.

Cold, not an iPhone Lumia S6 Edge HD.
Or on quick re-evaluation, its tepid and once people learnt to put some time into using it, hot would be the answer.
Great camera to get started on, then add a few more lenses and upgrade the body later. (mirrorless fans will flay me soon).
If you get this, the first next purchase would be the excellent 35mm f1.8 prime lens.

So I'm a bit confused by this one. This price isn't discounted.
I bought the D3200 non VR from Argos last year for £199. Then asked John Lewis to price match and got a VRII for the same price. Plus £20 cash back. So £179.
Sold the first camera for way more than I paid for it. Used the VRII camera for a while but photos were really hit and miss. So sold that one for £250.
If you don't have time to spend learning how to use one of these then stick to a decent compact.
In summary this deal is average at best

This is from the mighty John Lewis though - it takes much better pictures than the same one from Amazon/Currys etc.

I have this camera with the VR lens as per the OP and I am slightly disappointed with the lens. The camera is very good and I would very much recommend it as an entry level DSLR. It has the added advantage for me of being much lighter than the more expensive models (presumably because it has more plastic and less metal)
The consensus I've seen in various places is that the VR II is quite a bit better (stabilisation and optics), so for a comparable price, I'd say go for the one with the VR II lens. Eg see the comments on the amazon page for the VR II lens http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HQ4W4PC

This is standard price for this. For £60 more the 3300 has some good features

How does this compare to the Sony a5000? The csc cameras are becoming better all the time but not sure what the cons are between these

I didn't know whether to buy this or the Sony. in the end I opted for the Sony because of its compact size. It takes fantastic pictures and there's not much between them. I would say the Nikon has a slight edge over the Sony but I'm more than pleased with my Sony.

3% Quidco not 5% so price is £319.
Use code OCT15DEL for free next day delivery.
PS. D3300 also available at Jessops at the mo for the same price and with a free tripod.
D3300 drops the anti-aliasing filter, has faster continuous shooting, higher maximum ISO, adds Easy Panorama Mode and has a longer lasting battery.
Bit confused as to why this has got so hot when the same deal/same price was posted 3 months ago and didn't get much heat at all.
