I work with this kind of technology - you are really ignorant. If you click a link and in your browser you can CLEARLY see that you are visiting an amex website (and not amlericaexpr0ss.hackme.info.net) then you are at a safe place. simple as that.

Beware of links in emails that ask for personal information, even if the email appears to come from an enterprise you do business with. Phishing web sites often copy the entire look of a legitimate web site, making it appear authentic. To be safe, call the legitimate enterprise first to see if they really sent that email to you. After all, businesses should not request personal information to be sent via email. Education Education.

AMERlCANEXPRESS.COM, looks legit bit the I is a lowercase L. People running phishing scams occasionally try to make the url look legit. Sometimes they don't bother, but every so often there's one smart person. I'm surprised someone who apparently "works with this kind of technology" doesn't know this, unless....unless you're lying on the internet! No, who would do that....

Clicking the link:
1/ Confirms the email address is live
2/ Puts you at risk of someone exploiting a browser vulnerability
3/ Puts you at risk of a phishing attack
Obviously point 3 can be largely countered by caution when you arrive at the site, but is patently false that there's no risk from just following links (all said as someone who would happily of clicked a link in an email that I was reasonably confident was from Amex, because the risk is pretty low).

Actually it is not always that obvious. Which is why you should not follow links in emails. Anyone who requires reading glasses could easily misread an address in a browser window, especially if it's on a phone. Not everyone is 25 years old. WWW.AM3R1C4NEXPRE55.C0M

I get the same message as you when I click the direct link to the deal and enter my card number though.
