Only? People buying a £30 phone possibly can't afford another £10.

or a penny less if doing an upgrade, and get a full warranty period too.

Last time I looked, you can't make calls without credit so the top up applies to whatever you buy.

In which case, they can buy one from Sainsbury's. It's called choice.
"Not even the same deal." Now where did I see that?

Good phone at cheap price

Nope not true, plenty of people may already have a sim card in their current phone, and just want a new phone, thus may not want to pay the extra even if the one you mentioned is brand new.

Also 999 is free, don't forget - don't need credit for that. Or that Freedom free service thing (like Ovivo).

£30 refurbished is OK I guess, but these regularly come cheaper as a PAYG upgrade under various sims so I would check whether eligible before 'splashing out' on this

Any idea if this would work on the Digicel network in jamaica (holiday phone)?

don't see why not - I've used a 530 with Digical Trinidad - not quite the same thing but maybe that's enough of an answer for you

Yes, but at some point, you'll have to pay for calls. Or am I missing a really good deal somewhere?

From their website "FreedomPop service currently only supports Android and Apple devices running Android 4.0+ and iOS 7.0+." SO not a lot of use to anybody with a Lumia.
