Wish I'd taken your advice.. My daughter kept nagging me and I did eventually buy one. I was in 2 minds but decided I needed an upgrade. To be honest my prev Gen was just as comfortable and I could have saved 1000s. Although it wasn't a Merc but the F10 bmw .. The moral of story is same. Go with your head not your heart when it comes to cars.

if it's anything like the c class the 220 and 250 cdi is exactly the same 2.1 diesel just with different software (mapping), so a remap should see the same results as a remapped 250

This is Euros taxi! Nothing cool about an E class!
These are like 5 series, the thing that no company car driver wants, but gets on there limited list. The market wants the premium crossovers and SUV and your company car choice (or lack od) is an E class or 5 series. Your wear a grey suit, you work in accounting, your not the CFO.

Absolute awful interior design. So many buttons and knobs it is like a cockpit. Why the multi purpose screen (sat nav radio etcetera) isn't touch screen is beyond me. kept mine 12 months and got rid. But heat for the price
SlikWik to roddy768
23 Oct 152#12
What are you expecting is coming to the end of its life hence the HUGE discounts it's been out for over 6 yrs????!!!! So you won't get the best interior like the new c-class, touch screens can be slow and unresponsive, plus dirty fingerprints, however the rotary dial works perfectly on the interface, this is a lot of car for the money leasing one is just a no brainier £250 ish per month for one of the best saloons in the last few years.
There's a reason why they are used as taxis as they are so quiet and comfortable!

I'm currently leasing this car for 310 per month I had to put 1800 down an I can do 26000 over the 2 year lease period, brilliant deal direct from Mercedes Bolton. Lovely car an would definitely recommend it to anybody

just a quick question, if your lease car got some scratch during the lease, do they charge you for it. last time I rent a car from enterprise rent a car, only a very very tiny scratch on the plastic pumper, the company charge me a few hundreds pounds for it.

Looked at this model when getting a new car, but went for the C250 AMG Premium Plus model instead. The current gen E class is lacking in interior refinement now compared to the C and S class, which are both quieter and more comfortable. Next year's version of the E class will be a stunner for sure.
This is a good deal for the savings, but I'd recommend to anyone to try looking for similar discounts on the higher end C Classes.

It's a good deal and voted hot, it will however look dated after the new model next year. I do have to give it to Mercedes how they face lift these cars though, lighting and the AMG trim make these cars even more desirable. I can support the argument for not putting touch screens in. The finger marks make them look rubbish. The dial control is a cracking intuitive system and with command, u don't need to touch a thing, best voice activated system around.

That's rip off Britain, you will find if you audit their accounts they make more money on so call scratches than the rental itself. What they do is to batch up tiny scratches having made £10k + and then respray for £300 before selling off.
steveliujian
23 Oct 15#27
exactly, I asked the company to provide me the bill for that scratch, they said they will only repair it before selling the car, but they insist the scratch cost them a few hundreds pounds. They then just deduct the money from my credit card, after that incident, I never ever rent a car.

Seriously, write to Watchdog at the BBC, plus the Office of Fair Trading, or even the police. It is a major industry scam, massive overcharge, technically, it is theft or fraud because they have obtained a financial advantage by a false misrepresentation (by virtue of they money the got from you was not actually used to recover their actual loss). The reason why it is fraud or theft is that a re-spray is say £300 per time per scratch, this is reasonable, say, but a re spray for 10 scratches is £350 when batched up. So if you told a customer a false representation as you are not going straight away to re-spray, then got £300, it is theft or fraud. The burden of proof for criminal action is higher, so the alternative is going for contract law, what you do is to pay the amount for scratches and write alsoo that you paid under duress. When you contracted to hire a car there was no agreement for the amount of money to pay for scratches, so you are obliged to pay what is reasonable. Later you go to small claims court and try to claim your money back, then the car hire company will need to produce repair bills as evidence, repair bill needs to show car registration number. Under oath you pose them searching question, either they tell the truth or perjure themeselves which is damn seriously.

This is the car where the auto box f&*ks up and costs loads and loads to repair.
Why not get the Axiam Coupe, it's a lot cheaper, it's a 400cc diesel with 5HP and a huge MPG . It says in the AD "CAN BE DRIVEN AT 16", to be fair to the car it actually does 28MPH.

Yes, really need to shaft or hold these rip off merchants to account else this sorts of behaviour gets around like cancer with people ripping each other off. Like, I was ripped off, why shouldn't I rip you off attitude. Moreover this attitude gets into privatised NHS parts and you are dead meat getting ripped up by profiteering.

Due to HUKD I'm considering, for the first time, leasing a car - all these subliminal messages . Where do you start? Is there a website that tells you how to find the best deal or do you just trawl the internet looking at leasing firms? What should I be wary off, apart from rip off scratch costs (very useful info, thanks Splender). Conversely, where do you find these firms that sell new cars way below list price?
All info gratefully received.

The best lease deals tend to be on the cars with the best reductions on list prices, as the finance conditions tend to stay the same per manufacturer.
I've recently put in an order for a new car (not this one) and found that Drivethedeal are the best priced of the online brokers for my general requirements. You spec up the car you want on their website, they give you an overall price and will get PCP quotes direct from their dealer. If you go ahead, you deal direct with the dealer. Can't hurt to get a few finance quotes!

They don't have to repair it merely show they suffered a loss. In reality this is easy to do as they can get an estimate from a Mercedes repairer for a bumper spray and add on loss of use for two days. Your best way is by being a pest and offering to pay something reasonable such as £150 and ask them to prove loss
It is then down to more I can't be bothered attitude as it will cost them to attend a small claims court and they will view it as not worth the trouble
They will be able to prove a loss of 300 relatively easily though unless you can prove existing damage to the same part of the vehicle

In five years time diesel cars will be no more.
The pollution they are causing in cities and the impact they are having on people's health is now starting to be revealed.
Local authorities will have no choice other than to either ban diesel cars from towns and cities or to charge.
