Part of Lidl's Chrismas selection. Usually pay well over £100 for one of these this got hot last year and that was £39.99 for the same thing!

HOT!!!
I've got one of these on the go from two months ago.
The meat is fantastic and amazing value - the leg will last around 5 - 6 months in this house! As well as the tip about placing the fat back on top of the carved meat, if you put olive oil on it once a week and also wrap it in cling film you'll help avoid the bloom (if it does grow a bloom, it's fine, just cut that bit of meat off and you're good to go again.
A jamonero (the stand) is a must. Get one off eBay if you don't have one already.
A sharp, flexible, knife is also a must.
Eat the jamon on its own (great starter if you have friends round, and get some olives and manchego cheese too from lidl!), have it in sandwiches, cook with it in place of bacon for recipes like spaghetti carbonara etc.
Keep up with the weekly olive oil treatments and the meat will stay fresh and moist.
ENJOY!

These are only of average quality, and wouldn't sell for any more than this in Spain. I've had a few of them over the years and they have mostly been slightly under cured, which makes slicing a pain as the meat tears instead of cutting cleanly (you should be able to achieve wafer thin slices, by hand, with an appropriate knife). The Iberico that they had at £99 is a much better ham (as you'd expect). I won't bother with these low-cost hams from Lidl again as they really aren't worth it. Save your pennies and get a properly cured one.

Just to add - this is still on, I just picked one up from Southend. They had three, and the one I got weighs 7.8KG - an insane amount for the price.

They also have iberico cebo for £99.99. My local store had one of each left but both on same shelf so it looked like they were both £29.99.
Got the cebo cheap because of that and that the checkout op agreed the price must have been a mistake.

Is this like gammon? What process does it go through to make it keep for such a long time?

It is cured/air dried, so has little moisture and salt acts as a preservative

had one last year from Asda with the £39.99 deal posted on here, great value and lasted for over 3 months wrapped/oiled on its stand at room temperature, and still tasted excellent though it is important that the slices are as thin as possible

Good luck finding one, I never have :disappointed:
You can also freeze the meat. Cut of chunks and then pop them in the freezer and they last well. Defrost in the fridge over night then slice. If you have a meat slicer this is very easy (I have one and its great).

It's the shipping that does it, would probably end up paying the same price again to get it over here. The top end stuff is of course worth getting shipped over though!
I have often wanted one of these but never got round to it.
Anyone got a link to an affordable stand?

This isn't part of the Christmas offer but the remaining few from their Spanish week a few weeks ago, thus if your store still has them you're lucky, otherwise they sold out before.

Think this got poor feedback last year and other supermarkets were slightly more expensive but much better

Lovely to eat, but not so lovely to carve, if you don't have a proper stand. Any suggestions welcome!

Yes bit of a knack to it. I've got a stand which came with a leg I ordered on eBay a while back, it does make it a lot easier. Would also be worth getting a ham carving knife; very long/thin/bendy knives. Otherwise make sure your knife is very sharp!

Yep best kept at room temperate - it'll last for a good few months at least, over a year if not used. To prolong life you keep the fat that has been cut off and place it on exposed areas. Great excuse to get people over for tapas though!
