Not sure I'd agree. Google has all but given up on tablets. The optimization of some of the apps on my Nexus 9 is dreadful. You get a far, far better app ecosystem with an iPad.

Wow - I didn't realise Apple's marketing team worked on Sunday's?
Flash memory is incredibly cheap these days - and iOS is growing ever bigger with each new iteration. So if Apple had their customers in mind, they'd take a $1 hit on each iPad and bump the minimum storage to 32GB's.
Regardless, iPad sales are declining sharply - so Apple will have to make them more attractive (or lower the cost).

Having sold my NotePRO 12.2 for being too heavy and generally big I'm looking for a new tablet. The iPad Mini is one I've considered, how does everyone find the screen on these, are they too small or just right? Would the Air 2 be something better to go for?

These are a perfect size for web browsing. I own both and always go for the mini. You wouldn't regret treating yourself.

It depends what you use the tablet for - I find my Surface Pro is ideal on my lap or desk when I want to type. My 8" Samsung is better for just browsing - reading the news or an ebook.
I have an ipad Air but rarely use it - it's a really nice device to use and has a better battery life than either the 12" Surface or the 8" Samsung but it's just the wrong size to be ideal for anything; too big to hold like a book, too small to type on. If I didn't already own too many devices I'd get the ipad mini for reading.

For reading anything technical, you would want the proper iPad not the mini version, especially if you are planning to use a pen or Pencil.

For touch typing the keyboard is nearer normal size on the air so depends what you are going to do. I've never manned to treat the iPad as a laptop replacement despite having all the apps so the mini is great for browsing and the regular has all the kids stuff on it.

Funny how millions of people manage with it. It's called app management sure if you use loads of app or want loads of big games then bigger ones would be better, use apps management and the cloud and you won't have any bother. Our two have nearly 400 apps in the cloud all but 1 was free and they manage easily with 16Mb and when they need to load video then just take off apps and away you go.

They don't force you to buy it with that much storage, its just an option for someone who might want to use it only for web browsing and emails. Apple like to cater for all with a price range that does that. Its called value engineering.
wenttoabetterplace
25 Oct 15#42
4200mah will be legit. Still nothing impressive.
My Asus T100 has an 8300mah battery - it runs for 9 hours. So expect that Chinese tablet to run for 4.5 at best (I doubt the firmware will be as well optimised...so probably knock that down to 3.5 hours of battery life)

Never buy iPads from eBay or amazon, my colleague bought a "brand new sealed" iPad, which it was, a year later when she tried restoring the iPad it said "this iPad is registered to an Apple ID", email addresses was Taiwanese, she was really angry as there's nothing you can do, the iPad is worthless, she was about to throw it in the bin but I told her to report it to amazon, the next day she phoned amazon and they refunded her £200 for an iPad she bought a year ago. The iPad was brand new and sealed in cellophane, but was clearly refurbished at the time of purchase. Stick to JL, Currys, Apple etc.
iPads last for years anyway unlike android tablets. My iPad 2 still going strong 4 years later. Bought 2 of the best selling android tablets in the last three years, one is in the bin, the other can't hold a charge. That's android for you. Before you ask, yes they have been repaired with new parts.

My mum insists she wants an ipad for Xmas. I've got a Linx 10 and had many Android phones, but mum's Android phone still kinda confuses her, and this is a few years of having them! The simplicity is what a lot of people like with Apple, I guess.
I'm much happier with my Linx 10, masses of memory and freedom to put whatever the heck I want on it, from any source.
With the likes of mum, I think she just wants to use Facetime, listen to the radio, go on Facebook and read a few emails.

So if you are clicking on small web link is 'just works'.

Screen tap needed three or four trys sometimes.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago when they were first released. Best tablet I've owned thus far. My previous tablets (I still have them, they just don't see much use) are a Nexus 10 and a Nexus 7 (2012) and the iPad is a far better tablet than both of them. It's not quite as smooth as it used to be since iOS9, but it's still a pleasure to use.
One of the main plus points of the iPad over the Nexus tablets and indeed any other cheap Chinese tablets is the battery life. The iPad may have a smaller battery, but it easily lasts 10-20 hours depending on screen brightness, whereas the Nexus tablets never seemed to get close to their claimed battery life.

Let's be honest - Android was always a 'me too' project when it came to tablets. It has all the weaknesses of the main OS (lag/slow down over time etc).
Windows has also taken a step back with Windows 10 when it comes to tablet performance. Very little of the UI is designed for touch.
I personally wouldn't ever buy or own an iPad. I much prefer my 2 in 1 Windows laptop (Asus T100). But I can see why iPad's are popular. They certainly do a much better job of being a tablet than any other Android device out there.
Personally though, the Microsoft Surface line are a much better option. Why own an iPad and a laptop when one device can do it all?
