The Honor 7 is on offer again for at £209, from Huawei/Honor's UK retail website vMall...

The phone usually retails for £249, but are offering a £40 discount if you register on the vMall website first and will then email you discount code to use during the purchase to get it down to £209.
(If you have previously registered you should get the automatically have had the email with the discount code emailed to you.)

I think this is the third time they have offered this £40 discount since launch, a few months ago and each time has been very popular, with them selling out quickly. The offer is said to be available till 12 noon on Wednesday 28th October, but if you want the phone, I would order sooner to avoid disappointment.

I have missed out on the two previous offers, and ended up purchasing the Motorola Nexus 6 on a deal offer two weeks ago I found on HUKD. So unfortunately won't be taking up the deal they just emailed me, on this occassions.

For people unfamiliar with the phone, you are arguably getting a flagship specced phone, which could cost £400-500 with one of the big manufacturers... The basic specs are:

Screen - 5.2 inch, 1080p full HD Screen
Processor - HiSilicon Kirin 935 / 2.2 GHz Quad Core + 1.5 GHz Quad Core/ GPU: Mali-T628 MP4
RAM - 3GB
Storage - 16GB with MicroSD/Dual SIM slot
Camera - 20MP Rear Camera and 8MP Front Camera
Battery - 3100mAh
Finger Print Sensor
Android 5.0 operating system, with EMUI 3.1 skin
Metal Body

The Phone is receiving some very favourable reviews:
http://9to5google.com/2015/10/23/honor-7-review-video/
http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/135024-honor-7-review-brilliance-on-a-budget
https://www.androidpit.com/honor-7-review

While I am sure, some will state you can buy similar specced phone for £120-150 on Chinese websites, the warranty offered and your rights are questionable with these products, if something goes wrong as you are dealling with foreign retailer. You could also face customs charges, if your box gets opened when it lands in the UK.

The above offer is from a UK retailer, and are offering 2 year warranty.

O...K. Aside from the 490584095405495840598495084058 Chinese based manufacturers who are releasing bang-for-your-buck devices. There. K3 Note, Elephone P8/7000, Umi Iron, Doogee F5, Meizu M2 Note, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2/Mi4/Mi4i/Mi4c...they're all still a couple of steps behind the bigger brands. If only they left Android OS alone and stopped skinning and trying to be unique.

It's probably best to wait a couple of days for the release of the Oneplus X. Could possibly offer a similar midrange experience for less. Wouldn't hold my breath though. Most releases this year have been disappointing.

Lol that's why I wasn't exactly shouting to the rooftops about the Oneplus X. They've been a bigger disappointment to me this year than Google with the 5X. '2016 Flagship Killer'...LOL! Still...the Oneplus X looks a decent midranger albeit with a 32bit SoC if reports are anything to go by. I'll bet the Oneplus will leave out a fingerprint scanner for the X to save a few quid but I'm hoping I'm wrong since it sounds like a decent midranger that I might be interested in.

Well, it seems fingerprint scanners are almost expected now so I guess we will see! you seem pretty in the know, and the honour 7 reviews are decent and not sure how much longer I want to wait for a new phone (well, for my mum and dad!) - for the price the honour 7 seems like a decent bet - what say you?

Honor 7 is a great phone for the money but the weak GPU put's me off. The GPU in the SD801 that's reportedly going to be in the Oneplus X is definitely better. No support for OpenCL/GL on the Kirin 935. 2160p decoding on the SD801 vs 1080p.on the Kirin 935. If you're not too bothered about gaming I'd go for the Honor 7. Seems to have very good build quality with a really handy physical shortcut button. Or if you don't mind waiting then give it till the 29th to see what Oneplus have up their sleeves. Always good to have options.

Thanks for your input, definitely really useful and very appreciated! The phone definitely won't be used for gaming (my old fogeys barely know how to use google maps!) the Oneplus will be slightly more expensive I suspect? (correct me if i'm wrong!). will need to get two phones so perhaps will go for one of these and then wait it out (aka wait for your advice!) Thanks again for your knowledge and input, people like you make this site what it is

Sir_Didymus
24 Oct 15 1 #12
Nope. Should be significantly cheaper considering the Oneplus 2 occupies the £200-250 price bracket at £239 for the 16GB model. I think we're looking at around the £150-160 mark for the Oneplus X which sounds about right. If they include a fingerprint scanner they're onto a winner as long as they don't implement that rubbish invite system of theirs.

Having previous had the nexus 4 and 5 after a month with my honor 7 I'm more than happy. I use Nova launcher and removed or disabled some bloatware initially. Barring the odd bug which were sorted with an update the phone has been faultless. Zero lag, good camera, nice screen, good battery life, premium build and super quick/accurate fingerprint scanner. £210 very well spent!

OnePlus can't seem to decide what they want. fingerprint scanner on the OP2 but no NFC which put quite alot of people off. so now for the OPX they've apparently brought NFC back but cut the fingerprint scanner

A bit Huawei are only selling the 16GB model on vmall. Would have liked the bigger capacity.

For those thinking Huawei is a tiny Chinese brand - think again. They're only behind Apple & Samsung in China in terms of sales. Expected to ship 100m+ handsets this year in China alone. That's alot of phones.

I fully expect them to roll out Android Marshmallow 6.0 within the next half year, and to roll out constant updates for the Honor 7, as it is one of their best selling models and for a company their size, they should have the engineering capacity to have frequent updates.

Had this after last offer and OnePlus before that. CPU and GPU are really lacking on Honor as mentioned above. Fingerprint scanner is really good and accurate. Software is junk (even after putting Nova on), it's more to do with the optimisation and ram management. Camera is really good, photo at 20mpx are like 10meg though, camera app is horrible. Finally 16gb is useless, can't use micro SD as it's no replacement for internal storage plus I'm using 2nd sim for o2 priority!

Brilliant phone. I've owned one for over a month now.

The problem is the vmall customer service. My phone was faulty upon arrival. The screen keeps flickering & displaying some grey lines & sometimes looks like the static screen on old tv sets for a split second. It still happens now & then.

After explaining the problem to their customer service guy on the phone, he kept on saying "Sir, have you dropped your phone, if you have dropped your phone & the results show you have dropped your phone, you will have to pay the fee to get your phone delivered back"

I didn't drop my phone once! Only had it for 2 days when I phoned them up.

I had a feeling the guy was setting me up to send my phone back to them & them not bothering to do anything about it, which turned out to be the case.

They said there was no problem found & I'd have to pay to get it back, which of course I had to!

The screen flicker still occurs, and I've looked it up on the internet, with people experiencing this sort of problem on other Android phones. There solution was to turn hardware overlays off developer options. I have tried that, but the flicker still happens.

I'm hoping an update will fix it, but I'm not holding my breath. The phone is brilliant, other than the problem my one has, which according to them, it doesn't have!

You have to make a request directly to their systems bypassing the mobile's sale page. I doubt you can order the phone this way as their backend system is probably smarter than this. I was just trying to check if the code would validate, I would just wait till Wednesday and see what the state of play is then.

Seems that way.

I can't decide on this for £210 (if I can get it) or the Wileyfox Storm at £200

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wileyfox-SIM-Free-Smartphone-Cyanogen-MicroSD/dp/B014UUQM52/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445762111&sr=8-1&keywords=wileyfox+storm

Anyone care to weigh in???
ssjinzo
26 Oct 15 2 #63
Sure I can help 2 different phones in all fairness. Firstly the storm is much larger at 5.5 inch screen size so if you want a bigger screen you know which to go for on the other hand if you want something small more manageable get the honor. The processor is also difference the snapdragon 615 in the storm is good but I think the Kirin 935 in the honor is better for most task but in real world performance there may not be a vast difference. The build quality in the honor will be better for sure due to the material choice the storm being wholly plastic. The storm is running cm 12.1 built on lollypop and cm work on android updates and stock android has a better track record on updates than huawei and honor sub brand. If you are looking at future proof with the latest software the storm will be a better bet. The camera uses the same sensor so images may come out similar and not the same due to post processing. Other similarity include dual sim on both 3gb ram on both micro sd card. The storm has more storage with 32GB on board while the honor has 16gb but the honor has a much larger battrey and probably give much better battrey performance due to a smaller screen and larger battrey. I don't know if the storm has quick charging but the honor does have it and a fingerprint sensor which the storm is lacking and the honor has a programmable smart key. Other differences as well in terms of software extras but it's too long to list this is just a basic comparison. Also honor is probably a better brand than wiley fox so in terms of after sales support and warranty at this moment huawei may be better.

Hellloooo! One additional question- worth waiting for the oneplus x or going for the oneplus two?
Sir_Didymus
27 Oct 15 #66
It depends what the Oneplus X is offering and at what price. If they include an 801, fingerprint scanner, waterproof coating or some sort of water resistance and a decent camera at around £150-160 it would probably be a decent buy considering 2nd hand Nexus 5 2013 are going for that price and it's not far off the other budget king at the moment the Smart Prime Ultra 6.. Fingerprint scanner is looking less likely the more we get closer to the date. In fact there was a new picture leaked today which doesn't seem to indicate the use of a fingerprint scanner. New information about the possible use of an oled screen which is probably also not likely to be true. Anyway it's literally 2 days from now and you can judge for yourself which will be a better buy. My personal opinion is that Oneplus shot themselves in the foot with the Oneplus 2. No NFC or quick charge. I think the Nexus 5x will soon be in the exact same price bracket as the Oneplus 2 as well which makes it obsolete since the 5X has guaranteed OS updates. One of the best cameras currently around. Quick charge. I suppose you could then argue that the 5X hasn't got an SD slot or dual sim feature. Then you've got phones like the LG G4 which was posted today I think for £289 or something which is a brilliant phone with a fantastic camera with OIS. There's also the Moto X Pure which isn't far off those prices and will probably see a drop soon. Pah horses for courses and only you can decide what best suits your needs my good man. I think I'm just going to wait for all the Xmas, Black Friday deals to come flooding in unless the Oneplus X has all the modern features. Hopefully one of them is a winner with a 5.0" - 5.2" screen max. 5.5" far too inconvenient for me personally.

http://cdn1.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net//art/mobile_phones/OnePlus/OnePlus-X-leak-ad-650-80.jpg

Hmm maybe they didn't upload a picture that shows the bottom half because they're hiding a fingerprint scanner? Or a booty like POW?! Your guess is as good as mine.
Sir_Didymus
27 Oct 15 #67
Expecting Q1 but it will probably be Q2 2016 before you get it. It's just a matter of when I suppose but it's great to hear their relationship with Google is improving. The more we see handsets with this kind of feature set and build quality at this price the better.
ssjinzo
27 Oct 15 #68
From the leaks I don't think it will cost 160 I would say more like 180 to 200 1699 yuan conversion come to about 175 and since we always get screwed here it probably be 180 plus I would say ( this could be for a base 16gb model if they have 2 different storage options ). I think it will probably have a 801 with 2gb ram if it comes with expandable storage it will have 16gb and if it don't have a sd slot I would say it has 16gb and 64GB options like the one plus. I would prefer if they did a Sony have have 2 models and have a larger and smaller but back same spec apart from screen. Manufacturer have best spec version being the larger screen sized and the smaller ones having worse specs. The smart ultra is a good price but the phone is a monster but it has a snapdragon 615. Also the zte blade which it is based off cost more so I don't know how they can sell it for that price? Would you be happy with a 615 instead of a 801 on the X ? also having waterproof coating and fingerprint scanner will just raise the price due to component cost. If it had all that it would cost 200 upwards I would say.
Sir_Didymus
27 Oct 15 #69
If companies like Elephone, Ulefone, Umi, Doogee etc can incorporate fingerprint scanners for around the £110 mark and less I don't see why OnePlus cannot seeing as they'll be charging more than that for either a SoC from 2014 in the 801 or a current gen MTK Helios X10. In fact I recall reading the X might have a side tap feature like the Xiaomis. Possibly built by Xiaomi to keep the costs down? Also you'd expect Gorilla Glass for the premium over the cheap octacores already available from China. The waterproof coating isn't the most expensive thing in the world and the original Moto G proved that. It won't be near the £200 mark either because it makes no sense for a company to price a midrange device so close to the 16gb version of their flagship. At most I reckon it will be £170 and that's dependant on the type of screen they're going to use. Also SD 615 can go to hell. Rubbish GPU and mediocre CPU. No point speculating on the OnePlus X anyway seeing as we're about a day or two from seeing the device. If it turns out to be a load of crap then it's nothing new. That's been the story all year with all the underwhelming releases. Here's to hoping.
ssjinzo
27 Oct 15 #70
True most Chinese phones cost much less, but they also have less support both after sales and software support. Also cost for marketing and advertising and QA ups the cost for the phone. That's why you carnt compare Chinese import phones to UK/European spec branded phone sold in these markets. If you don't care for support Chinese phones are definitely the way to go. But I don't like when people complain like when the phone breaks or it doesn't get updated or the QA is not up to standard or when they advertise something that is wrong you get what you pay for and you should fully understand what you get before you purchase any Chinese phone as this is common practice . Regarding the waterproof coating yes it doesn't cost much but the moto g 3rd gen has weak specs so cost saving has to be made to get to the price. It only has a 410 I would say it should have a 615 at the price they are selling but that where the cost is being saved. This principle could the same for the fingerprint scanned. The one plus is a Chinese brand but it services ect are priced accordingly to a western seller. Most western phones comes with snapdragon not with mediatek processor and only in rare cases it has one. I don't see it being less than the advertised process which on conversation cost around 174 / 175 which is a odd price they probably round it up than down and make a loss. One plus doesn't have the same aggressive pricing anymore. But like you said we will see what happens. Just hope they don't have invites for it but iam sure they will :smirk:. Expect the phone to be made available after January for common release due to invites

Hi all

Can someone who has this phone help me out?

Been interested in this phone since release but today I went to 2 separate '3' stores which had the phone on display and there seems to be significant delays in apps opening. Mostly this was on things like gmail, youtube, etc - so possibly related to these not being set up?

However there was also what felt like a couple of seconds delay opening the dialler and unlocking the screen took a number of swipes.

I would mark this down as a handset issue but because two separate handsets were the same I wonder if anyone who has the handset could comment (I am comparing speed of response to sony z2, lg g flex 2, vodafone smart ultra, and other handsets ive just messed around with in shops).

Thanks

I was on about the first generation Moto G...

It had waterproof coating and Gorilla Glass way back in the ol' days. The good ol' days. The rumours were suggesting a waterproof coating for the OnePlus X as opposed to being IPX7 rated like the 3rd gen Moto G you're on about. Anyway enough speculation. A fiver says it will be a flop. If only the Honor 7 had a better GPU...tut.

Still not working.

I particularly like the irony of the "Click here to be informed when the next exciting promotion is (un)available" message beneath the add to basket icon.

Third time unlucky with the terrible vmall site.

Just spoke to them. The IT people are trying to fix it.

They've been told to tell customers to order at the full price then ring back twenty minutes later, to give time for the order to show on the system, then get the refund for the voucher applied.

Right order full price it is then!..

Just gone for Grey since its in stock & don't wanna wait around for weeks for silver.. already ordered a black case for it anyway
jamespitcher37 to rmonkey100

Let me know how you get on with the refund. I've still seen no promo code come through, so reluctant to place an order at full price without this as back-up.
fragilegorillaz
28 Oct 15 #100
God their site is bad!

I ordered it at full price, went through the card authorisation thing, have an order number from the final page. Then no confirmation email so I go to "my account" and into recent orders on the site and...nothing.

Why can't I buy anything in this country? My Forza Xbone is still missing in action from Tesco direct because their site is just as chaotic as vmall and now this!

Ordered the silver one.
They have disabled the chat though because of the traffic.
Talked to them before they closed it and they said just to order full price and they will manually deduct the £40 discount.
Just called them on 0800 048 8994 to confirm everything, you will need to give them your Order Number + Voucher code and they will add a note for it to be applied when everything is sorted.. They said the IT system has gone into meltdown basically and they can't handle all the orders and that's why the voucher isn't working and nothing in order history for anyone. Its basically a waiting game now.

They said once the IT system is fixed the orders will show up.

This is so bad it's comical.

I've just recieved 4 confirmation emails! They're like buses, none for ages then four come along at once.

I ordered the Grey/black one. I was also reluctant to order and ring back in case it went wrong. I wanted to do it while I was on the phone but the girl said it takes about 20mins to show up on their system so holding for that long isn't an option. It's not ideal but I think it should be OK.

I bet a few vmall employees pulled a sicky today after being mobbed by the HUKD faithful twice before with this promotion! :sunglasses:
fragilegorillaz
28 Oct 15 #121
It's all worked OK. Just spoke to them using the order number in the confirmation email and they applied the voucher manually. They did make me read the voucher code out to them though before they'd apply it.

It's now showing the voucher having been applied to the order. The order is showing up only if I follow the link in the confirmation email though.

Now I just have to ring Tesco to see if anyone there knows where my Xbone is.

OK, just got off the phone with customer care (Teddy). Nice laddie, but it turns out that the offer was only for new account holders that registered in October, so no code for me, even through I have never ordered from them before. Very poor, as I can find no clear message that states that the promotion was only for new accounts. Very disappointed...

Hey honor fans! As you may know we will celebrate our 1st honor anniversary in one week in Berlin. For this occasion we would like to celebrate with you by handing out some cool gifts! Starting today you can sign up on http://www.vmall.eu to get your sign-up bonus for all honor smartphones (honor 7 -50€, honor 6 -50€ + free Flipcase, honor 4X -30€ and honor 6+ -100€!) You can register until the 28th of October at 10:00am to make use of this amazing offer (subject to availability). Those of you who are already vMall customers will get an e-mail concerning this offer within the next days. You know the drill: Share and like this with your family and friends! smile emoticon ‪#‎honor‬ ‪#‎forthebrave

Does anyone know how long it takes for the phone to be delivered?

I ordered the phone for my wife. Had to phone up yesterday to get the voucher code applied and got through after a couple of attempts. Phone arrived this morning and I am very impressed with it.

I have an LG G4 personal phone, which I love for the removable battery and excellent camera. I have my old Galaxy S5 as a backup phone albeit with a cracked screen that I never seem to get round to fixing. And I have a ZTE Blade S6 as a work phone, which is a mid range phone costing around £160 and apes the design of the iPhone 6.

The Honor 7 is charging right now, but the design and build quality is second to none. It exudes quality and makes the ZTE Blade feel like a toy. I know it performs well as my sister in law has one, which is what prompted me to get this for my wife. I just need to find a case for it now as my wife has a propensity for dropping and generally abusing phones. The Honor flip case looks great and I enquired about stock when I phoned to get the voucher code applied. Unfortunately, they have 400 units on backorder, but no ETA.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a case to suit the Honor 7?

Same, I am so confused what android phone to go for. Nexus 6p looks great BUT is clearly overpriced

Oneplus 2 is great, but cannot get an invite, have been waiting since it launched and do not trust the ebay sellers.

I think I'll get the OnePlus X for now and wait until the Nexus 5x and 6p are reduced than exchange to either the 5x or 6p next year.
