Hey guys,
I guess a lot of people had their orders cancelled like me. The cancellation email had a £10 voucher for Microsoft store on it which I didn't pay a great deal of attention to at first as I didn't think it would be worth much, however I've just investigated and they sell £10 Xbox live cards (for £10, free shipping), so I've entered my code and viola... free £10 Xbox card!
So if anybody else has received the £10 gift voucher code and hadn't planned on using it, then go for one of those. Something for nothing! Even if you don't have an xbox, you'd be able to sell it on ebay/FS boards here if you could be bothered, or give it to pretty much any person between the ages of about 7-20 (donate it to your local school for their raffle) and they'll love you forever!

I'm trying to find a replacement as the order I placed for my daughter has been cancelled. There seem to be numerous magenta versions available - 11-d 009/011/016/063na - Sorry if this is a daft question - I have tried to google it and it just pulls up reviews, all of which I've compared but I can't see any obvious difference. Could anyone in the know please advise if there is a difference and if so what it is?

Defo out of stock, plus cancelling orders. Ours has just been cancelled that we ordered last week.
Thanks very much indeed, it's reverted back to it's pre update state so what I'm trying now is downloading the update onto USB on another laptop and will try to run it off that. I presume when it has downloaded to the USB and I execute the file it will give me the option to do as you say

The laptop doesn't seem overly easy to upgrade to Windows 10. I tried it when I received it and it failed twice because of lack of space and I've tried it a couple of times using a USB drive for the extra space but it's not having it. I'm reasonable with technology and I can't find a way round it so will contemplate returning it unless I can find a solution that doesn't involve registry amendments and others that I've found on the web.
I did vote hot incidentally as it's a fantastic price!

When upgrading windows 10, be sure to do it from a USB drive so that Windows doesnt have to store the upgrade files on the C: drive. Also if you select "dont keep anything" when upgrading, this will save space too. This is the method I chose but keep in mind you will have to update all your drivers again as it loses them with this method. This includes the Synaptics touchpad drivers.

I updated an ASUS EeeBook X205TA (Argos refurb) - which also has 32GB storage) straight out of the box. Able to download and install programmes and apps on it without problems.
Perhaps you just have too much installed on it? Have you tried offloading installed programmes / apps to a USB / portable HDD, and then updating?

Hi all,
For those of you who have received this laptop from Microsoft - was there any visible differences on the box or the laptop itself which differentiate it as a "signature edition"? The reason I am asking is that I want to order for my dads birthday which is today but the delivery time is quite long... I was going to buy from argos and then return the item I receive from microsoftstorento argos, therefore paying the cheaper price. Argos would take it back as long as the box was unopened wouldnt they?

boxes could be different colours looking at these videos video 1
Its not worth the risk. Mind you, its not wise exchanging the signature one with argos one as the £20 ms store voucher may be in the box.
If I were you, I will explain to my Dad that delivery has delayed a little bit and should be sorted by early next week.

I found on another 32GB machine that it wouldn't upgrade - not enough space. When adding an SD card and directing the upgrade to use the SD card, the upgrade went without a hitch.
Not doubting you, but would be grateful for a link of how to upgrade a 32GB machine without extra storage?
Thanks

It can run the Windows 10 version of Minecraft with no issues, but may struggle with the Java version.
Some of the things stated in the video are outdated, because they're updating it quite rapidly. You can go full-screen, there is multiplayer (between other Windows 10 edition users and mobile players only). You could use the £20 credit to get it. Only costs £7 I think.
10 hour battery makes it ideal for Netflix. As stated above, it runs the Windows 10 Minecraft edition. Despicable Me Minion Rush, Crossy Road, Asphalt 8, Hill Climb Racing and Candy Crush also seem to get a lot of play. Quite a few games on the Windows Store.

What type of sd card would be best for using for windows 10 upgrade?
Hootwo to pinkkitty2007
14 Oct 151#44
You should be safe with any well-known brand from a reliable merchant, so Sandisk, Integral, PNY etc. from Amazon itself, ebuyer, dabs, scan 7dayshop etc.
Maximum capacity is at least 32GB, and this thread suggests possibly 64GB.
Speedwise, my Asus X205TA worked fine with a Class 10 card for the upgrade to Windows 10.
hammeredpizza to pinkkitty2007
14 Oct 151#46
You don't need an SD card to upgrade to Windows 10. If you want to expand storage, go for UHS-I speed as a minimum on a laptop. Standard SD card, not micro. I'd advise buying from Amazon, but only from Amazon directly - slower knock-off cards are big business.
I've been using Samsung cards, they tend to be right up there in terms of reliability.

Let me finish your statement for you because you obviously like just typing numbers on every laptop deal and making people think it's a crap screen.
1366 x 768 is the resolution of this laptops screen, Don't worry though as the price of this laptop justifies the screen quality which by the way is fine for watching Netflix and playing videos on.
If people expect a higher resolution they'll have to pay a lot more money.

If required, and don't want to continue to pay for 365, just revert to the free on line version of office, and tie it to your One drive...

Ah well...I'm typing this on it now and it is a really nice device! I've upgraded to Windows 10 and then done a fresh install...it seems to run loads smoother on W10...great little device...annoying that W10 won't let you move OneDrive to SD card though....I've just moved all my stuff over to GoogleDrive as this is the only one of Dropbox, OneDrive and GoogleDrive that let you save to SD card.

Great price, and a good buy if you are after an ultra-mobile low power laptop to run Office.
We have and love the similar specced Asus X205TA, so a brief summary may help:
The 32GB flash RAM is slower than an SSD, faster than an SD card
You should budget for a 32GB SD card to extend storage
You can upgrade to Win 10, but you'll need that SD card and it'll take an age to do
The N2840 cpu in this has a passmark of 1067, so it's not fast, but ok for Office 365 and browsing.
This device's strengths are: low price, 1.3kg weight, small size and good battery life.
It's Microsoft's answer to the Chromebook but with the usual Windows user interface and functionality.
Worth noting the Asus X205TA is 980g, while the HP is 1.3kg ...

I bought the 14" version from Argos. It cost me £95. Lovely machine and was singing its praises on here but having had it for some time I have stopped using it completely. The eMMC drive is not upgradable. Its soldered on to the mainboard. I upgraded to Windows 10 using a SD card. Slow as hell after. Only useful for web browsing. Took it on holidays but it just kept freezing on a slow wifi connection. The 11.6 inch version might be a better bet but beware it has serious limitations unless u simply want to check emails and look up things on the net.
