An article I read, another Harvard one, reported a ratio 2.5-1 for omega 6 to omega3 can cause cancerous cells to die. A ratio of 4-1 showed no such benefits. A western diet apparently has a ratio of 17-1, probably why cancer cases are so high. I say eat fish, take fish oil and reduce consumption of processed foods.

Supposition though and not a one fits all solution. For example I've had a genetic profile done, how accurate is this, well science can't tell us which genes are active and even the equipment used can introduce errors. People can have genetic polymorphisms that can positively and negatively infuence nutrient response. I'm according to my genetic profile 7x more likely to not respond to anti depressants, I have genes which can positively and negatively affect my Vitamin B12 status. Are these genetic mutations active? No one can answer that. This personalised profiling is the best we can do and it's extremely limited as there's ten of thousands of genes of which we have limited or no research. We have a massive task ahead in terms of research. For you to recommend that everyone supplement Omega 3 does not in way consider the extreme complexity of the human genome and which genes are active, and no human as of yet has this information. The best we can do is base our recommendations on the likelyhood of genes being active and we'll get better at that. We're a long long way from being anywhere near fully understanding the human body. The task is literally enormous. Genetic sequencing is one tool we have.
We do however know that on a basic level there are nutrients which are beneficial and essential in disease and are recommended to be supplemented, an example is Thiamine status in Alcoholism.
