Guitar Hero Live is here. FreeStyleGames have reinvented the legendary Guitar Hero franchise, with two innovative new gameplay modes and an all-new guitar controller.
GH Live mode puts you onstage, looking out: you get a heart-stopping first-person perspective as a real crowd reacts to the notes you play. Or switch over to GHTV – a playable music video network, where you can play along in real time, discover new music, and challenge friends around the world.
GH LIVE
YOU are the rock star. Playing music in front of a real crowd is like no other experience. With the new GH Live first-person view, YOU’LL take center stage like never before. Rock real crowds with real reactions. Feel the rush of performing in a REAL band, in front of REAL crowds who react in REAL time to your performance. You’ll either win the crowd or lose them. Plus, your band mates will also let you know if you’re rocking out or need to pick it up. Fight the stage fright and bring down the house. Awesome music, epic venues. In GH Live, you’ll take the stage in a variety of venues. Experience it all from the intimacy of a small club or the main stage of a massive outdoor festival.
GHTV.
All playable, all the time. GHTV is a continuous broadcast of music videos where you and your guitar controller are the star. Hundreds of videos will be available at launch spanning all different genres of music, with new videos continually added to the line-up. You’ll be able to discover and play new songs all the time. Watch what you want. Turning on GHTV is similar to turning on your regular TV. Pick a channel and dive right in. Don’t like what’s on? Just switch over to the other channel and pop into a new song. Rock out with friends GHTV makes it more fun to play with your friends than ever. While one person is playing, everyone else can watch the videos. Plus, GHTV doubles as a competition. Compete in the living room with friends or online with others. Or, check out the global leaderboard, and see how you stack up against fellow rock stars around the world.
I received my copy earlier today. The game is not reliant on micro transactions at all. There is plenty of tracks to play on GHTV without even spending money. As usual people speaking like its gospel before even seeing it with their own eyes. Decent game so far and love the reworked game mechanics.

I like the sound of it. The reviews I've read mainly sound like its positive, you earn credits fairly easily and don't use them too much. The only money to pay is, for a weekend pick-any-song type mode.
It seems like they've tried something new and are getting bashed for it. I prefer it to the pay for lots of different songs type approach, 200 songs sounds better to me.
The new guitar looks better too, 3 buttons and two rows makes for more interesting combos.
Seems a bit more innovative than Rock Band, who have stuck with their existing formula, which I thought had got a bit stale in RB3 and Guitar Hero in the last games.
Anyway, well done to them for trying something new.

Yeah, stay away...I actually understand why they went this route as the fov live style just would not work on a rinse and repeat style of game play, and one would get bored super quick of the main usp of the "live" scenario...so,I can see their logic...they want people who want to play the sets

That'd be me then. I wouldn't play a track unless I liked it.
Certainly wouldn't be playing along to a Justin bieber/eminem/one direction load of tosh (just picking names at random there)

Only time will tell if it works, but what I can say (from reading the reviews) if you play the game you will get a lot of credits built up, however if you are the type of player who picks a track and does not change then this game is not for you at all

Hey everyone!
Jamie Jackson here, creative director of Guitar Hero Live and co-studio head at FreeStyleGames.
Are you ready for some Guitar Hero awesomeness? I know we are. The launch of Guitar Hero Live is just around the corner and the team here is crunching away on our final rounds of testing and balancing so that we’re ready for day one. We’ve poured our heart and soul into this game so we really hope you, the community, loves it as much as we do.
The game includes two bad-ass modes. GH Live lets you rock real crowds on stage with bandmates and crowds that react to how well or how poorly you play. We wanted it to simulate a real performance so that you can feel the stage fright just as if you were performing at a music festival. We spent months casting real musicians, shooting hundreds of actors and extras, and working with the best teams in the business to edit and create a breakthrough live action experience that we think you’ll really get a kick out of.
But we didn’t stop there. Our second mode is Guitar Hero TV (GHTV), another new way to play and a completely fresh take on Guitar Hero. So, we want to make sure everyone knows how it’s going to work!
GHTV is a new platform. At its core, it lets you jump into different channels and discover new music. You can play along to all types of cool content within GHTV, including music videos, concert footage and more. But it’s much more than that, too. It gives us a chance to take music games to a brand new place.
First, the music programming. When you hop into a channel, you’ll be playing along to a set of songs personally curated by us. It won’t be done by a robot! For example, you can hop into a show like “Metal Icons” on channel 1 on a Saturday afternoon, featuring songs hand-picked by our supergroup of music fanatics at the studio. And maybe on channel 2 it’ll be something else like “Rock Top Hits.” You can play these for as long as you like. Pick a channel and the endless stream is yours to ride. We’ll even continue to add more channels after launch.
Of course we’ll have tons of face-melting songs you know and love, but we’ll also have songs that may be new for you at first but quickly become your new standard for epic shredding. People often tell us they’re finding songs they never knew they’d love to play. Music discovery is a big pillar for GHTV, and we’re going to keep adding new content on an ongoing basis, so you’ll always have new music and new shows to explore. You’ll start off with access to hundreds of songs, and there will be many more on the way. It’s a living, breathing platform, which means we can bring people the music they want a lot faster than in previous games.
Second, playing songs on-demand. We’re revamping how typical DLC works. We looked long and hard at the way it used to be in past music games – you pay a few bucks for a song to add to your library. It’s a big financial commitment up front and a tough decision to make, and it has always left me feeling like I have to replay that song until I’m bored of it to get my money’s worth. But it’s a different time now. We have so many different options for how to access music and entertainment. With services like Spotify, Pandora and Netflix, we no longer have to make a decision to buy a song or a movie up front, and we have more freedom to access more songs, movies and TV shows than we ever could have dreamed of just a few years ago.
In GHTV, you no longer buy a song in the old DLC way – you don’t have to buy a song to sample or play it. You can play any channel for as long as you want. As you play in the channels, you earn in-game currency which quickly adds up, so you can get tokens to play any song from the GHTV library on-demand. And we’re going to load you up with a bunch of play tokens the first time you play and as you rank up. The more you play, the more you earn. This freedom of choice wasn’t offered in the past. We hope people will love it.
And hey, if you have a bunch of friends coming over, we’ll also give you the option to purchase a party pass for a set duration during which you’ll have unlimited, on-demand access to every song in the entire GHTV music library.
Bottom line, we wanted to bring as much music as possible to gamers. Whether you are a music explorer who wants to try a little bit of everything or a completionist who wants to master the toughest songs, GHTV gives you the freedom and flexibility to play the way you want. You never have to pay an extra dime after buying the base game and we will keep pumping new music into your living room.
Best of all, GHTV comes with the game. When you pop in the disc, it’s right there. All you need is an internet connection.
And let me be the first to tell you we are committed to maintaining and growing GHTV post launch. The great thing is, we’ll be listening and getting feedback on what you love and what you want to see more of so that we can adjust in real time. To us, this is what a music game should be. We can’t wait for you guys to check it out for yourself."

Wow. 40 songs of which 10-15 will be to an individual's liking.
IMO it's a terrible idea to make a game such as this rely on online streaming and micro transactions.
In the same review you've quoted:
The bad - how long will they keep supporting GHTV?
You're at the mercy of the developer for the majority of the game.
DaveRay
20 Oct 15#22
It has already been pointed out to you that there are more than 40 songs on the disc that you can play offline. You can also play along for free to the steamed music channels, but you can't pick a specific song without exchanging credits. However, you also unlock credits during normal play anyway. You can also pay real money for a 24 hour pass so you can play as many of the online songs as you want. The ArsTechnica review said that this was a good example of a fair and balanced microtransaction model.
Aeschylus
20 Oct 151#20
agreed, they should add a £4.99 buy this song action if you really want that one song
Aeschylus
20 Oct 151#19
this sums it up perfectly
You have your on disc tracks + Live Stuff (40+ songs) + the Premium Live (like the Avenged Sevenfold one)
Then you have GHTV wich has different channels per hour that will keep on changing as time goes (extra 200 songs)
Wich means a never ending stream of new songs, no extra cash needed
Then you have a chance to play a song of your choice from the GHTV (if you don't want to wait for the rotation to show up) using the in game tokens, wich you earn by playing the game and leveling up
stuarthanley
20 Oct 15#18
But they also point out that if you want to play the same song over and over (so you can master it), it's going to cost a lot of money.
Anything that relies solely on online play and heavy use of micro transactions is negative in my eyes.
I much prefer the RB4 way which has all the backward compatibility plus the ability to use all the other instruments.

lol no not meaning to sound defensive, it is just that every review is saying how good this the GHTV is (including IGN) yet on here it is getting bashed for GHTV.... the IGN says that he loved the GHTV just curating for him, and you earn credits whist doing this....it sounds to me that the only time you would have to pay is if you literally dont want to play the game except one song over and over, that is not included in the 42 on the disc.....
it is a tough one as if the game was full of £2.49 DLC for extra songs then we would not be happy, just seems to me they are trying a different way and hiding nothing behind a paywall
stuarthanley
20 Oct 151#16
How defensive are you? Did you create the game or something?
At no point have I said anything about bad reviews.
I've just highlighted the fact that the game relies on micro transactions and access to the internet.

20 Oct 151#10
IGN and Gamespot both pointed out how the game relies on micro transactions if you want to play the song you want. You also cannot "own" that song so you have to pay each time you want to play it or wait for it to be streamed.

only one bad review so far, as I said all of them are saying that this GHTV is a excellent addition, but as always people grab hold of one bad review to declare the game DOA
Got some links for that? I'd love to see reviewers saying Micro-transactions are a good thing..

The game pretty much relies on being online and micro transactions according to most reviews.
You can only play the song you want to play if it happens to be streaming at the time OR you pay for it using the in game credits that can be purchased with real money.
