Probably about the cheapest I've seen a kilo of sugar.

Could see it posted about a month ago for Lidi, but not Aldi. Have not noticed it in our local at this price before, but I could be wrong.

Was talking to the manager in our regular Aldi today, it's become to popular they are opening another two stores. We already have two and there are quite a few in surrounding town! Seems like they are expanding quite a lot, maybe you will get one in the future

You just can't trust what the Germans might hide inside their products. Just look at VW!

Yes don't buy a product from a UK store subject to UK VAT from a UK based business employing UK staff and paying UK corporation tax and business rates because it supports the German economy.

Sounds like now might be the time to stock up then!
Funny thing is, I don't use granulated sugar  Well unless I am making marmalade and that happens about once every 5 years. I have a bag in the cupboard, but I can't remember what I last used it for.

Yes in the meantime destroying local independent retailers. There must be about 6 in our town I used to do the odd shop there when we had one store but now I avoid Aldi like the plague

Yes they may employ people in the UK but how many have lost their jobs due to aggressive expansion plans such as the closure and reduced turnover of independent retailers. Aldi also employ low numbers of staff per store when compared to British supermarkets

Are you posting this from 1980? We barely had any independent retailers before they opened and the people they have hurt most here is Tesco and Sainsbury's.
The independents we do have left aren't threatened by them because they offer something totally different.

Thanks op, I do lots of baking, always ignore 'caster sugar' in recipes, use ordinary. Have been put off going into local Aldi since they had an armed robbery, but am over it now, ha, after I joined the bun fight for the caviar face cream the other week

You can apply that logic to all businesses never mind supermarkets. I think we all know the main culprit of what you are suggesting is the expansion of tesco express. The other supermarkets including normal tesco stores, are not far behind in being responsible but this is capitalism and a free market at work. To attribute what you are suggesting to Aldi alone when it has a much smaller market share doesn't make sense.
Aldi employ small numbers of staff? Yes because there are fewer stores and they have a smaller market share. Again the point you are making applies to all businesses including independents and supermarkets, they all want to employ as few staff as possible.
