Wickes - the DIY chain - have taken advice from the men in ivory towers. They recommend that 9.2kw is the maximum power you can draw from a 6mm Twin and Earth cable. Many old fuseboards, with replaceable wire fuses, have a Main Switch of 40 amps maximum load too. Even at 9.2kw loading that's 9.2 X 19.73 pence per hour ( Kwh charge) per day on your Electric Bill. You work it out !

Bought and installed this a few weeks ago. Reasonable for the price, would go for a higher power next time. Easy to install if your fittings are roughly in the same position, and you have a bit of diy skill.

We bought this shower last week and the other half is installing it as i type...

I have 6mm cable so I'm limited to 8.5kw max. To much hassle to rip the cable out. This is an excellent price for gainsburgh would be a good idea to buy 2 so it's a direct replacement when it fails in future

For all that are interested...

As a rule of thumb.;
8.5kW showers require MINIMUM of 6.0mm cable on a 32 or 40 amp MCB with RCD protection, which is fine for about a 20 meter total run.
Anything above 8.5kW or over 20 meter run should be 10.0mm cable with an additional 6.0mm CPC (earth) cable.

In an ideal world I would install 10.0mm anyway. =)

8.5 - no power at all. need a 10 at least

Not sure if it's just me but 3 out of 3 Gainsborough showers I have used have blown after barely a years use (I didn't fit them before you ask).

Are the fittings usually universal e.g. the water connectors?

Unless you are replacing a shower with a model from the same manufacturer then the water and electrical connections are unlikely to be in the same place. I replaced a Triton 8.5kw with a 9.5 kw and connections were the same. You do need a safety trip RCD in the mains supply to trip out the power if anything goes wrong with the shower which showers put in many years ago may not have. Water and electricity do not mix. Great price for shower. Heat added.
