Always bothers me why companies like Saucony, Brooks etc can't hire a decent designer. Like seriously, how hard can it be to hire someone who can draw. Loads of amazing product designers all over the web posting stuff that they design for free as hobbyists. Yet Saucony persist in outsourcing design to playschools.
Takes the ****. Nike hire amazing designers. Hate them all the you want, but they do spend on their design staff. Actually feel annoyed when I buy Nike running trainers now. Few times I've been tied between a Brooks or Nike and ended up with the Nike, based on the style. I can run in anything if it's light and comfy so design becomes a major deciding factor, especially when a lot of Brooks and Saucony often aren't simply less stylish, they're actually disgusting and cheap looking. Not great when they can cost £120.
Case in point. A Saucony flagship model.
Look at the colourway, that alone should give you an insight into the maturity of the designer. That guy shouldn't be allowed near a colour palette. The design of the shoe itself shows that no expense has been spent on it. They simply made the shoe they wanted, albeit a great one in this case, and didn't bother with the design. Fine, but don't charge over a hundred quid for it then. At least have some savvy and black the whole thing out so it's not so noticeable.
Anyway, heat. Girlfriend wants some tab running socks. Only Nike has them in the size/colour at the moment so this code lets her have them.

This whole thread was not about running shoes, it was about a discount at Nike, and the whole first half of your rant was about "Always bothers me why companies like Saucony, Brooks etc can't hire a decent designer." Its best to just accept it when someone shows you are clearly wrong and have made a fool of yourself, dont try to back track out of it...

When runners talk about running shoes they means shoes designed for running in. The 'specialist' part is obviously implicit.
Thanks for dragging the discussion down to the silliest it can get so you can fit in some special edition fashion trainers to make a non-point.

I buy stylish things because they look better than things that aren't stylish. People will and won't like what you wear no matter what it is, so no point caring what people think.
Actually, people who try to blend in and buy normy clothes usually are the most self conscious and afraid of other people's opinion. Too afraid to wear something stylish in case they get judged.

If you're serious about running then the aesthetic shouldn't matter as you wouldn't wear your proper running shoes for just out and about anyway?
I suppose because the likes of Brooks etc. are not as mass market then the economies of scale and, therefore, the price reflect that.

If you lived in a remote location where nobody sees your running shoes when our running would you still buy/order the Nike over the Brooks ? Or would you chose on comfort / performance / suitability / quality / value for money. Just wondering.

Some serious runners don't care about how they look. That's fine. Some serious runners want to look good while they're running. That's fine too.
I don't understand why being a serious runner and looking good should be mutually exclusive. Strange train of thought.
And I completely agree with the mini-rant. The running focussed brands really should invest in some decent designers. Those blue and yellow shoes are horrific.
