having recently flown to Budapest with wizzair I noticed they do onward flights to Dubai.
after a quick search I noticed that you can get to Dubai for about £62 from Luton airport

Luton to Budapest 23rd Nov from £16.99 (for wizz club members £20 one off payment give you plus 1 other cheaper tickets for 1 year)

Budapest to Dubai the next day for 18090fl which is about £45 (wizz club)at today rate of 400fl to the £
I know this involves a overnight in Budapest but at this price it is still far cheaper than else where

return flights are a bit dearer but they can be found without an overnight

Well I thought I was pretty clear but I'll break it down.

Whizz air saves £180 (not £200).

You have to add in cost of accommodation in Budapest and travel there.

As someone mentions you also have costs for luggage with Wizz Air (given that Budapest averages 2-7 in November while Dubai is high 20's you will probably want different clothes -and therefore need luggage - for Dubai) and I would imagine probably have to pay for food (for about 7-8 hours travel you will want to eat I would imagine). Amount that this eats into it will vary depending on your circumstances, but it could easily be £50 or more. So there's actually £130 difference.

Then there are the non- monetarily quantifiable things to factor in. Part of this will depend on how you view the stay in Budapest, if you are happy to get out and see Budapest then it is a positive (though you don't say how you long you will have there, so you might not actually get to see or do much), but if you are just looking to go to Dubai then it is a negative.

Whilst I'm sure Budapest is a lovely city, personally I would see spending a day in a city that will be lower than 7 degrees before going to one in the upper 20's and having to either travel in or bring a mix of winter and summer clothing as a negative.

Emirates is also much more comfortable than Wizz Air and I think on a 3,000 mile journey you are entitled to take in the pros and cons of a shorthaul airline against a longhaul airline. Plus you don't have the hassle of changing plane with Emirates.

These factors cannot be quantified in monetary terms and their importance will vary from person to person. I did say that personally it's not for me so I haven't voted, I didn't say it was a bad deal (I actually acknowledge the obvious fact that it is cheap) and if the factors I listed above aren't important to you then go for it.

But I don't think an extra £130 to take away those issues is burning money.

It makes you wonder when people call others names if they believe themselves perfect themselves ! Dubai hardly has any oil reserves, just 5% of what Abu Dhabi has, the reason they wanted to become a hub for airlines way back when was because of this, not because they had an eye on a future time.

Not voting either way, it's obviously cheap but you would also have to factor in a stay in Budapest and the return fare into the cost. Then consider whether the saving is worth the hassle of 2 flights each way plus an overnight stay one way to somewhere as close as Dubai.

There's lots of direct flights from London on better airlines and you can get usually get pretty good deals - just on a quick search with emirates now you can go for £358 on that day, returning a week later. Obviously it's not as cheap as the deal, but taking into account the above factors I personally don't think the deal is cheap enough to justify the hassle compared with the emirates flight.

That's all well and good, but if you look at it in a less negative way, then building the stay in Budapest into your 'holiday' actually makes this a pretty good deal. Now if all you're after is getting to Dubai and back, then obviously it all seems too much hassle.
napolimp to thecynicalsaint

I know you can get flights with one stop from Dubai to the UK for around £120 - so with this outward fare a return would be £180 - with the chance to stay in Budapest for a night (or more) which is a fantastic city.

So, as that's a saving of over £200, I'm struggling to see your logic - although maybe you have money to burn.

Just remember that Wizz air is short haul airline, with very cramped seats.

I have no problem with 3-4 hours, but double this you will be in for a very uncomfortable flight. I would make sure you have a day in Buccarest before flying onwards (its a nice city)
andreasuk to smala01

You mustve meant Budapest.
I normally fly 2 hours and it is very uncomfortable..Although you can buy extra space u know..even if they charge extra for it you might wanna do that for longer journeys
smala01

Also remember that even hand luggage is chargeable on Wizz Air. Cases in the hold are very expensive too..
Llantarnam to smala01
16 Oct 15 #28
Just had a play on the WIZZ web site and it looks like you cannot book a through ticket, it has to be 2 individual tickets. So that's 2 lots of £10 for cabin bags and 2 x £25 for hold luggage. So the one way price is about £130 excluding the overnight stay.

Also the flight doesn't go to Dubai, it goes to DWC, which is Jebel Ali (better factor in a taxi ride unless JA is your sort of place)

You don't have to stay overnight...
Wizzair fly to Dubai from Sofia and Bucharest too, as well as Budapest... Wizzair fly up to five times a day to each of these three cities from Luton, so any connection onwards to Dubai should not be too long.
BUT you do need to factor in, WIzzair does not offer connections and is a point-to-point airline, so you have to pick up your luggage and check-in for the second flight. Also they will not take responsibility if you miss a flight due to the other flight arriving late.
You can regularly get return flights for under £160 return from Luton to Dubai, via one of the above cities but does take a little time working it all out. There is a very good airline called SkyPicker which will however work this all out for you, and takes you through to the airlines website to book. - https://en.skypicker.com

I'm not looking at it in a negative really, I'm evaluating the deal and did acknowledge that it is cheap.

You're right if you want a multi city trip to Budapest then you would evaluate it differently but it is described as a trip to Dubai so that's how I've looked at it.

As I said in my earlier comment, if you do want to go to Budapest first there will be a big weather difference so the likelihood is you will need luggage which is another cost to factor in when evaluating the deal.

It can also be done for £70 flying flying via Sofia, I'd rather visit Budapest though so heat added!

I have been trying to find out how cheap you can go RTW for and this is a good start, you can then fly to Delhi from Dubai for £70. The India eVisa brought down the cost of entry to £39 from £95 last month for stays of up to a month, the main cost of a RTW seems to be Aus-Americas routes. Anyone have any tips on any?

Round the world, people go from dubai to India, to Thailand etc., then to Aus.
Might be worth looking at flying to Hawaii as sometimes this is cheaper than straight to LAX. Cheapest i can see is from Melbourne, £130 ish, depends on when you are going. then from there it is about the same

Cold from me because of a past experience. I'm 6'3" so flying isn't the most pleasant experience especially as I take about 20 flights a year. I flew to Bulgaria with wizzair on a stag do last year and on the way out I had the usual no leg room knees pressed against the seat in front. Bearable and normal... However on the way back I was on one of their new planes which to my dismay have almost 3 inches less leg room. No matter how I tried I was unable to sit in the seat without having to sit in my seat at an angle with both legs in the Isle.

To be honest after an hour i had lost feeling in my leg and I had enough and decided to sit in one of the toilets for the rest of the nearly 4 hour flight.

I wouldn't travel with them again and I would advise anyone who is over 6 foot to check what plane they will be on and either book extra legroom seats or not fly with this airline.

RealDash

I thought it was relevant and so did the person who `liked` it, making 2. Nobody `liked` your comment except yourself making 1. So what does that tell you? You are literally wrong and at least 2-1.
PLUS, how can my post be irrelevant? The deal was about flights to Budapest and Dubai and my comment referred to both of them. I didnt say I would rather go to North Korea... THAT would have been irrelevant.
soldierboy001
18 Oct 15 #71
The deal is for cheap way to get to Dubai and is relevant to getting to Dubai not to you not wanting to go to Dubai. Not everybody clicks with likes but still agree with a post so your method of scoring a victory is the same as someone punching you in the face but does not qualify that person as being right. I stand by my first post and you saying you don't want to go to Dubai as not being relevant to this deal.
RealDash
18 Oct 15 #72

Now that you've educated yourself about the laws of the UAE, you know what rules to follow if you visit there. Same as you would expect tourists coming to this country.

I dont agree with all their laws but if people cant stop themselves going with a stranger they met 5 minutes before and start shagging on a beach or cant refrain from alcohol, then rather than complain about "sharia law c##p country" they shouldn't bother going there on holiday.
