Hi nedford, I have purchased this model as a gift so haven't as yet given it to the recipient. It has some great reviews, the only negatives tend to be the running time/battery life but i have to say it has never ever been an issue for me at all ~ i find it more than sufficient. I have the dc59 model & usually always use ion the normal setting without the need for the max/boost button (which does shorten the usage time significantly btw) & i live in a fairly large 4 bed house with 4 kids & a dog and would not be without it.

Yes they are, I was very sceptical, but they work excellent on carpets and hard floors, works better than out old mains vax cylinder. Its very versatile! Dont worry about the battery life 20 mins is plenty unless you have a very big house, and if that's the case do one floor and another later. got one off Dyson refurb ebay store a few weeks ago @ £150 (with 1 year warranty) so this is a good price new at £179 with 2 year.

Yes,almost as good as full sized cylinder ones.
however since it's cordless,battery life is short.it's designed for bedsits,studioflats or as a second vacuum cleaner for larger homes.

It is as good a household vac. I have one but it just compliments the house hold vac.
The battery only lasts 20 mins, which is what lets it down.

The DC59 is the same, battery just lasts longer, so this DC44 is between DC35 and DC59 in terms of battery life

Think this is the one I have, has the longest stated running time although I don't like to vacuum for more than a few minutes at a time anyway. It is great and saves so much hassle, just pick the thing off the wall vacuum and put it back, no messing about with wires. Main difference I see between this and the newer models is they have a better release mechanism to empty the dust, saying that its not a lot better. Suction and battery life seem identical.

Can this be a replacement for a typical vacuum?
We have a big old vax that has excellent suction but is a pain up and down the stairs. I don't think the 20 mins will be an issue

We have one of these and whilst it's light weight and convenient... we have a big problem with hairs getting caught around the roller... It's not the dog as he dosen't cast it's my daughters hair.... Every second or third time dyson gets used I have to remove the roller and attack it with a pair of scissors to cut away the hair that's rolled tightly around the roller and stopping it turning. I thought it was perhaps just us, but I was at a kids soft play last week who had one, they were hovering up and I chatted to girl hovering she says they have to do same twice a day sometimes, the suction is ok, but not nearly as good as my old upright dyson dc04.

Hi gty1970, There is an attachment you can purchase (£45 from dyson) called a tangle turbine that specifically addreses that problem. Theres 5 of us with long hair in my household, so i too have to clear the roller every so often, i dont mind doing it but if i saw the tangle attachment as a good price then i would probably purchase one. These vacs are not intended as a replacement for a mains corded vac..more of a quick clean up. I still use my miele upright now & again for a deeper clean...which i would hesitate to ever replace if its breaks...as i really dont like it)!! I would imagine this is streets ahead of the Gtech got the multi which is like this Dyson and it doesn't have a lot of suck the cold air it blows out is stronger than the suction.

Suitable for most Dyson upright and cylinder vacuums. Compatible with DC19 onwards, except DC24 and Dyson cordless vacuums.
That would suggest its not compatible with the DC44

V6 has more powerful suction in boost mode only and charges in 3.5 hrs against 5.5hrs for dc44
