Away for the weekend and forgot my iPhone charger - had the cable but needed the plug. Went into Currys and got one for 1p!! Lots in stock at Kingston retail park, Newcastle but it's definitely a national deal. Price still shows as £5.99 on shelf edge but scans at 1p

I found a bunch of similar but not quite the same 1A 5VDC USB socket power supplies in a PC Wurries near me a few years ago, for 99p each, so I effected the purchase of three of them. I’m never quite sure if they’re underpowered or not. They can charge a phone, but sometimes slower than I expect, sometimes quite fast enough. I use one on a Raspberry Pi 2, which I think is slightly underpowering it (I see the little square quad of colours in the top right corner, which I believe is an underpower signal?) but otherwise seems to cause it to work happily. A Pi 2 should be better off running with slightly more current than 1A though.

But not limited to the above.Pence or or penny depends on the usage. Either can be plural and either can be noun or adjective. Why risk showing the limits of your own linguistic ability by criticising others? Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
Obviously you don't live in Sixpenny Handley,Dorset SP5 5ND and have probably never owned a ten shilling note, but if make a habit of criticising others, then sooner or later you will find out what a four penny one is!

The actual price of this item is not 1p and is definitely a mistake made by the cashier. The code that has been used to reduce it to 1p is there for store use only and is a way for the store to take the stock off the system so it can be used to power demo units around the store.

The OP is reporting on his experience of purchasing an item, and posted a copy of the receipt. You can't say that his action will cause this apparent disciplinary any more than you can blame the Archduke Ferdinand for being shot at the start of WW1. Picture the scene....
"Good morning wife. Shall we go to Sarajevo today to buy new-fangled electric gadget?"
Wife reply: "Ah yes husband. We go to shop called Currys and buy item." So saying, they get into the motor carriage and drive to the shops in Sarajevo.
They enter Currys. It is a small electrical store selling everything from bulbs to newly invented electric mangle. Mrs Ferdinand gets very excited by all of the gadgets that she sees: battery operated wooden spoon; 55inch cabinet for a yet to be invented technology; batteries, bulbs, torches, accumulators, fuse wire, electric candles and an electric cattle prod. She chooses a packet of fuse wire, and approaches the cash desk.
"Good morning Frau Ferdinand. That will be one krone please. Would you like to extend your guarantee for five years? It covers you against theft, water ingress, breakdown, civil unrest, war with a neighbour and full scale war. It's only 100 Krones."
"No thank you, young man. I just take fuse wire."
He fills in the sales ledger and gives Mrs Ferdinand her receipt and a cheeky wink. Mr Ferdinand carries the item towards the door. The manager approaches the cash desk. "Adolf," he asks. "Did you just sell a 6 Krone fuse wire pack to that couple for 1 kone?"
"Yes sir I did."
"You idiot. That is a promotional offer only available when the customer buys an electric toaster, invented only in 1909."
The manager is mad. He chases Mr and Mrs Ferdinand to the car park, demanding back the fuse wire. Archduke Ferdinand waves to the manager, assuming that he is simply waving them off. They drive on, and the enraged manager decides there is only one way to retrieve the bargain fuse wire. He pulls a revolver out of his pocket, aims, fires and kills the Archduke dead.
Adolf, the sales assistant, witnesses this and is so traumatised that he resigns and gets a job in neighbouring Germany working for the government. (He worked his way up into government but that is another story.)
Now, back to the one penny charger. Is the customer responsible for the actions of the assistant? No. He simply bought his one penny charger and posted an image of the receipt here. Was the Archduke responsible for his own death? No, he simply purchased a packet of fuse wire for one krone. The manager's over-reaction killed the Archduke, not the transaction. And, my friend, this action led to World War One and the deaths of many millions of people.
Let us hope that the OP's purchase of a charger for one penny does not lead to another war. But if it does, it won't be his responsibility. Do not blame the OP for WW3. Blame Currys.

3 posts when 1 could have sufficed. Posting for mods when you only had to click on the post and report....... but then you wouldn't up your post count...... and having the audacity to say everyone's wrong when each item is subject to vat however the billing is composite but strictly speaking the vat charge is still on the item sale.... Good luck finding a dictionary.

BONKERS. I did use the report button, but it was giving me an error. However it is not surprising to see you jumping to conclusions yet again. If it's a store/regional decision to clear stock, surely you'd be shouting the price as "ONLY 1p TO CLEAR!" not having them priced at £5.99 then hoping it gets onto HUKD? This seriously smacks of till point error, is likely to be a one-off where a discount promo code from a bundle was scanned not the normal selling barcode.

I work in Currys store, this was for the iPod touches that didn't come with chargers in the box. So no, in no store will it 'scan' at 1p.
There are a lot of other products within the Currys/PC world accessory range that could go through at 1p.

Your all wrong. Curry's and ever other retailer don't have the VAT charged on every single individual item. Imagine the paperwork for that, would be ridiculous! They pay VAT for their overall sales total in any tax period. So all the 1p sales would be added up together anyway, along with every other sale.
noahsdad
24 Oct 152#61
Being put on a disciplinary for that would never hold up in employment law. And I seriously doubt anyone at Curry's HQ or the individual store are that diligent or pro-active about keeping tabs on their employees. The OP just posted a deal in good faith, lets not bash them!
If you want the deal, buy the associated product, get the 1p plug and take back the associated product later on for a refund.
Oneday77
24 Oct 151#60
Actually that is wrong. This could be a store/area/division decision to clear out old stock. So yes for the most part when bought with, wbw, deals are normally just that. They can be used in other ways in certain conditions.
The offers button on Eclipse is there for a reason.
As someone who worked in stores for 7 years, was part of management, divisional merchandising and a company forum representative, my comment is sound.
All I'm saying is that in this instance it could be perfectly fine, not 100% bad as you state.

It was put through the till using code 112043 by the stock item to check for availability is 009993. Stores generally shouldn't process a standalone item with the first code.
So either it's promo to ditch old stock, in which case it could be store specific or the OP got lucky.

Got to say I have read through the posts and OMG OMG at the state of the some people on here!!! Absolutley hysterical. You can sense them foaming at the mouth - all over a 1p plug :laughing: Even with posting up the receipt a couple of wombles said it was fake! So many people on here need to log off and head outside for a dose of real life as they sure take this online life so so serious
Obviously you don't live in Sixpenny Handley,Dorset SP5 5ND and have probably never owned a ten shilling note, but if make a habit of criticising others, then sooner or later you will find out what a four penny one is!
Half a pound of tu(two!)ppenny rice
Half a pound of treacle
Bargain
Ta for posting, will be the best 1p spent if I can get me hands on one  xx
Though to be fair, I don't mind that quite so much - in fact, I think some people call generic tablets 'iPad', it kind of did start things going I guess, though I'm not a fan of iOS on any device.
Could you not have just forgotten your phone charger?
Imagine if someone had forgotten their charger for say, an S6 Edge - a similarly expensive phone, do you think they would have said 'I forgot my S6 Edge charger'?
Nothing personal OP, it just makes me chuckle every time
from Tesco?
i will try bespoke to see if they can get the price down further
good deal if u can get it.
Imagine the increase on footfall of visitors entering the store, or secondary purchases made due to their visit for this charger, or the heat on hukd keeps this curry brand hot...
I can't remember the last time I stepped into curry maybe 5-6 years, I'll b visiting on Monday - I,m tired of trying to persuade people to go upstairs/downstairs to get me the usb plug.... Usb should be a standard for wall sockets these day!!!
I need at least 4 upstairs and 3 downstairs.
You are my hero of the month.
Watch out the grammar police are about guys.
Why such small men have big balls on the internet, is beyond me.
Well done to the OP, great find
Blame Currys.
this should go in the "hey, look at what i randomly found!" section ..
It's 1 PENCE!!!
Has anyone else actually managed to buy one at 1p?
I work in Currys store, this was for the iPod touches that didn't come with chargers in the box. So no, in no store will it 'scan' at 1p.
There are a lot of other products within the Currys/PC world accessory range that could go through at 1p.
Like I said, well done... You've probably got this guy in trouble.
If you want the deal, buy the associated product, get the 1p plug and take back the associated product later on for a refund.
The offers button on Eclipse is there for a reason.
As someone who worked in stores for 7 years, was part of management, divisional merchandising and a company forum representative, my comment is sound.
All I'm saying is that in this instance it could be perfectly fine, not 100% bad as you state.
the one a guy made about how him and his mate apparently indulge in a bit of double penetration with my mother remain however
(not this thread)
So either it's promo to ditch old stock, in which case it could be store specific or the OP got lucky.
Yes it will be national but only if the staff member uses the right code.
Actually, it's nothing personal, but I see demands like this on here all of the time...
Is the receipt not enough proof!!
Always get one
and 0.2p is VAT
