Compared to Chuwi Vi8 this has better processor and 1900x1200 panel but lacks HDMI out.

Runs both android 4.4 and Windows 10

Great specs for the price.

Bought one recently from a different seller stunning 1920x1200 screen got a decent atom processor as well as 2gb ram.

To potential buyers some advice and answer.

If you choose to you can delete android partition and have just full windows 10 and vice versa.

With both operating system on you get around 8-10gb space left in Windows so a micro sd card is advisable.

Also all of the Chinese apps that come pre installed can be removed except for chuwi store to remove so you need to root, this can be done easily using the kingo root method a 2 step process.

If you want you can do a fresh install of windows using Windows 10 32bit UK installer from Microsoft this will get rid of all the Chinese defaults. However make sure that your windows tablet reports as activated before doing so and also make sure to get the chuwi hi8 windows drivers - Google them.

Some bad points - No hdmi and the camera on it is rubbish, also if using headphones there is a very noticeable electrical buzzing and hiss which is more noticeable on the Android partition also when on Android and you have headphones plugged in video playback may stutter due to the headphones causing some sort of electrical interference.

Also although likely a YouTube bug, full 1080p on the Android app is not viable only 720p but on Windows it's fine.

The on board speakers is fine for general use but is awkwardly placed muffling sounds.

Overall it's a great device for the price very smooth and great screen

On paper this is a good tablet. In reality it is too, but too many flaws for my liking. I thought I could deal with a poor camera and sound, but I no longer listen to podcasts its that bad. The battery is very poor. You can't properly use the table while its charging as it does stuff by itself. And Ive actually grown to miss the smart features on iOS. Just s few examples, when leaving a tab which has sound, the sound stops. It doesn't do that on iOS. Also, might sound Minot but I miss tapping the top of the screen on iOS to go back to the top of the page, android doesn't have this. Few others as well, bit I would still stick wit android for w ability to use SD card, and you can fins good value for Money tablets.

And also when you buy from China, you have no peace of mind that if it breaks you can jusreturn it. Yes we probably can, but it would be a massive hassle.

For £60 its still fantastic value. I just personally would have peefered to spend a bit extra on a tablet that had better sound, battery life, and could be returned to a UK shop. But I'm looking at spending £100 more for all of that, which is no where near as good value.

I received my one of these today, and although windows reports the screen as 1920x1200, it doesnt look to be higher than 1280x720 to me.
When I view a webpage that is 1920 wide, it cant fit it on the screen. Also http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com reports 1097x686 !
Do I have to adjust something or is the screen a fake and only 720p ?
Thanks

So banggood have taken 4 days to respond about the broken tablet, and their response was "have you tried updating the firmware?" whilst providing no instructions on how one does update the firmware.

I've googled it already and found a few threads, but wondered if anyone here knew an "official" method that won't brick the tablet, rather than me having to wait ANOTHER 4 days for a response on how they expect me to do it.

Not sure how Chuwi design their chargers, but going by what you pay for these specs their margins look razor thin and the charger is one obvious accessory that could be economised on.
If I were you I'd dump the Chuwi charger and cable and go for a decent combo with similar specs e.g. if an Apple or Samsung charger does the job.

Not all chargers are created equal, some are downright dangerous:

Ok had a while to play with the tablet I got recently from Banggood. First of all I experienced no problems with the delivery. The tablet came within 6 days and was reasonably well packaged.

The tablet itself is very well built considering the budget cost. Doesn't quite have a 'premium' feel but certainly well put together (no creaks in the plastic, buttons well placed and responsive) and some thought has gone making it aesthetically pleasing.
Screen is amazing, IPS panel is sharp and very bright at 100%. Viewing angles also really good. The full version of Windows 10 is very usable on the 8" display.
The tablet does run warmish in general use and heats up when gaming or using other cpu/gpu intensive tasks but not uncomfortably hot, just enough to notice it. I certainly haven't had any warning messages as yet.
Battery life for medium usage is about 3.5 to 4 hours, not great but not terrible either.
Obviously its a bit of a squeeze having two operating systems on a 32GB device but I had about 9GB of free space on my first boot up.
For simple Windows usage (Surfing, movie watching, Word, light gaming etc) it does the job as well as my i3 laptop.

Android performance is also very good, just a shame that its Kit-kat, a couple of versions below the current lollipop os.
I uninstalled a few Chinese aps but this was easy to do and I was left with about 6.5GB of storage.

Overall at £54ish (remember to use mobile Bangood app and register first with them to get 10% off purchase price) this is an absolute steal for those wanting a portable device for general pc/Android usage. It isn't gonna run Photoshop editing software by any means but for everyday use its more than capable and you'll probably be surprising pleased with finding out what it can do (4k video without a glitch) as opposed to belittling its limitations.

Different devices need different levels of charging. Older phones are fine with 1 amp chargers and those are cheapest so it's common to use one of those. Any decent phone from the last few years probably needs a 2 amp charger. I have seen a 3 amp charger but the faster you charge the quicker the battery will fail (heat is bad).

Computers can have very low power output. Dells in particular will not charge my phone while my unbranded home PC is fine. It can be worth trying the rear USB sockets as they sometimes seem better.
JoeyJoeC to DaiLaughing
27 Oct 15 #257
What phone needs 2 amp charging? You do know that chargers don't force amperage into devices. a 3 amp charger won't use 3 amp. The device uses what it needs. Just means it will have 3 amp available.

You'll also find with your dell that you have a power save mode somewhere which is limiting the USB outputs. Check Dell bundled software.

Little on the low side. My phone pulls ~180mA and my tablet ~1110mA. It's a plus number though so it's enough to charge it! As others have said, use the cable that came with it and plug, you can test out other cables and chargers you have to see if they give better results using the same app. Obviously, it will charge faster if shut down. Maybe you have a PC, cable TV box or TV with USB ports you can test for mA readings.

If the battery stats are lying to you, google reset battery stats. I believe running the battery completely flat and then charging to 100% can fix that... but do some Googling first.

EDIT

Saying that, they battery in this is around half the size of the one in mine, so maybe that is about right? I don't know, just do some testing as above and see what the best mA you can achieve is.

After first day of use I remain impressed but did note that the sensors aren't very accurate. Also the battery drain looks to be faster than envisaged. Charging seems to take long too. The most surprising thing is that Android side does not support microSD cards formatted to exFAT. This means that the largest file I can have on FAT32 is 4Gb which is a pain as it means I can't have FullHD movies on the Chuwi :disappointed: - I've listed quite a few negatives today but overall at this price I'm pleased with it - and I haven't even touched Windows yet.

All the cables worked fine once they were connected to the provided charger. Ergo, the problem was not the cables, regardless of any differences there might or might not have been between them. Again, I used the provided USB cables too with different usb mains adapters. Therefore, deduction tells you it was not the cables at fault.

Slight update on my purchases...

One of the tablets has started behaving very oddly. All of a sudden, booting times slowed down considerably, and it now fails to open the Facebook app. It only appears to have an issue with the facebook app though, which is odd. Resetting to factory settings doesn't fix the problem, and the slow boot occurs with both OS's, so that indicates to me some sort of hardware failure/slowdown rather than anything in software.

I contacted Banggood and made some videos ready (I'd previously read that they ask for videos of any problem). It's lucky I had another tablet to compare it to! They asked for the video to show the shipping label, but unfortunately that was recycled the day I received it (and just try getting the package open with the label intact anyway!). I hope that's not going to cause a problem. Anyway, my response...

Hi there, and thank you for your prompt response. I have already recycled the shipping label unfortunately, however I can certainly send you a video of the problem. It is shown next to the tablet my girlfriend bought at the same time so you can see the issue. I can give you my girlfriend's order number as well if that helps you. They arrived with both of us the same day and have had the same length of use.

First of all, this video shows the tablets side by side (faulty one on the left) booting into Windows. As you can see, the left tablet has slowed down considerably VIDEO

Next we have another video, again, side by side (faulty one on the left) switching to Android. As you can see, even though the left tablet begins rebooting slightly before the right one, it is much slower VIDEO

Finally, here is a video demonstrating the problem specifically with the Facebook app. The tablet on the right opens the app and loads the newsfeed up as normal. The left (faulty) tablet fails to open the app at all and just brings up a blank white screen VIDEO

There is no software/settings issue that could cause the Facebook app to behave in this way as I have already done a complete factory reset of Android and it did not fix the issue. This, along with the suddenly slowed boot times on both OS's indicates to me a hardware failure of some kind rather than a software problem.

Hopefully you can help me resolve this problem

EDIT: Okay, for some reason HUKD doesn't allow me to post links to videos on my Google Photos account. If anyone can help make those work, they might be a helpful reference for someone else who has problems.

Your cables must all be the same specs then. I tested 3 cables and they all gave wildly different results... Motorola phone cable: 70ma... Bluetooth keyboard charging cable: 200ma... cable that came with the tablet... 1000ma+. Saying that, your device will only suck from the socket what it can use, so when I plug my phone into a cable that can provide 1000ma, it will only take the maximum of around 200ma.

I am 'upgrading' to this from a Nexus 7 2013 - there is nothing on the mainstream market of similar size with a decent battery life except the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - I chose the Chuwi over that as it was the more interesting. On the plus side the screen and performance is staggeringly good even when taking the price out of consideration - and I've only so far tried Android and not Windows. The aspect ratio of the screen is peculiar because it feels like half-way between 16:9 and 4:3 and it turns out this is a great compromise for both video and general use. Even though the resolution is the same as the Nexus 7 (1920x1200) it looks less 'letterboxy'. A welcome inclusion was the OTG adapter - unsure yet whether I need to find an app to use it. Negatives? The biggest downside is that having gotten used to the very swish Lollipop this does feel like a bit of step backwards - it's also vulnerable to Stagefright and I don't expect it'll be patched - I can't even see an option for checking for online updates. I'm hesitant to look for online unofficial images as I'm concerned about malware payloads. Being two Android versions behind is actually more depressing than I had anticipated - might have to lessen the blow with a replacement launcher. The other sort-of downside is that it only has 6Gb or so free space but then it does have two OSs and it also takes a micro-SD card. Considering the price I can't really fault this too much. Also I have read somewhere that either of the OS could be removed to free up space. It comes with a screen protector fitted but it felt quite rough so I decided to throw it away. I've been spoiled by the Nexus's oleophobic coating - apparently you can buy kits for these.

No it wouldn't. The message saying there was insufficient current did indeed come up a few times when using certain apps, but mostly it was just from observing that you could tell there wasn't enough current (the battery was discharging even while getting power and was extremely slow to charge even when the tablet was switched off). This happened with both the white cable that came with it, and various other cables for phones and other devices. Also bear in mind, I bought 2 of these tablets (one for my girlfriend too) and they both went through the same tests with the same cables and adapters, so it's DEFINITELY not a problem with the cable as I used multiple different cables, including the ones that came with both tablets.

As I said, once I connected the cable (ANY cable) to the correct adapter, it worked like a dream. Therefore it's what the adapter is providing that's at work here, nothing to do with the cables.

Yes, mine came with Windows 10 pre-installed and it didn't have the Microsoft Office 360 activation key.

Also, I might not have done this the correct way, but I "Uninstall" (deleted) all of the Chinese apps from Android, apart from the Chuwi app. But I was able to "Clear data", "Clear cache", "Force stop" and "Disable" the Chuwi app and remove it from the Home screen.
MadeInBeats
23 Oct 15 #230
You mean it said there was sufficient current? Just checking because if you plugged it into all those things and the app said not enough current, that would mean the cable is definitely at fault.
PsychoCenobite

Just to say that my tablet arrived from Banggood about 5 days after I ordered it - I paid for the quicker postage service which was about £0.50p more. The postage label was just a Parcelforce 48hr one, which is fine and I didn't have any customs charges.

The packaging was as expected - they mention on their website that they repackaged it to make it a bit safer when posted. I'd also seen an un-packaging video on YouTube that showed the Banggood packaging.

So far I'm really pleased with the tablet, considering it cost just £53 (inc. the 10% app discount). It came with a screen protector already fitted, I just had to peel off the top layer. I had already ordered a folio cover / stand (blue) and 2 x screen protectors from eBay, which also arrived from China and it looks and fits perfectly. That cost about £10 from "nba-friend" (252068993755).

After some playing about with the tablet (this is my first tablet), I think I prefer Android to Windows 10 but I like having the option of the two. Android felt better designed for a tablet, whereas Windows 10 felt like trying to use a desktop or laptop OS but on a tablet.

Next up is to find a different charger from Amazon, as I'd prefer to use one that doesn't need adapters. I just need a UK charger with a USB connection.

I tried it with the white USB cable that came with it, and plugged it into various things (a mains usb adapter, my iMac etc) and there was insufficient current, so it's definitely not anything to do with the cable used. It's the adapter itself which came with the Chuwi that makes the difference.

23 Oct 15 #227
The shorter the cable the quicker it charges, also if in a hurry switching off charges faster. The Wattage is calculated by multiplying the Voltage x Amps. So for most tabs a 10W (5v x 2A) charger is fastest and is used which is usually supplied with tablets anyway and also available on eBay Amazon etc. A 10W charger is not recommended for most phones' smaller batteries which usually come with 5W chargers.

MadeInBeats
22 Oct 15 #223

They send you the bare minimum for charging. Best thing to do is buy a high speed charging plug and cable. Download an app called Ampere, it will show you how many amps your device is pulling from the charger and cable and if it's enough to charge whilst in use; you could test out different combinations of cables & chargers to see what's working best. Great app.

USB cables all have different amp and voltage specs so if you're using something that came with a phone, then chances are that it won't be sufficient enough.

I just bought one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Premium-1m-2m-3m-4m-5m-Micro-USB-Charger-Cable-for-Tesco-HUDL-2-Kindle-Fire-HD-/271783512999?var=&hash=item3f478f4ba7:m:m6_xVLtlt5AUlWZcIdadUAA

Its a great tablet for the price but for the life of me I cannot get it to connect to my xbox one for streaming, I just get asked for my ip address but it never finds it or connects to it although im signed in on both and everything else works ok on the xbox app, its a shame because thats what its intended use was for (playing when my kids have hijacked the TVs).

Mine came with a strange Chinese power adaptor ( a USB cable into a USB block that fits into a 3 pin plug) seems the only way I can charge it as the normal micro USB chargers I have all seem to charge at an incredibly slow speed even though they are all 5v 2amp, any ideas on a replacement charger?

I had the same issue and was scratching my head for a day thinking I'd made a huge mistake. It seems the only thing that provides the correct amount of current is the adapter they provide. A regular usb cable as you'd get with a phone simply charges so slowly that it actually discharges faster than it can replenish.

I had one of these Euro to UK adapters lying around and it makes the whole charger setup a lot less convoluted looking and less likely to come apart whilst charging. It locks the 2 pin plug vertically in place, so you only have to worry about one part of it detaching rather than two:

I can confirm. Mine arrived from Gearbest's EU warehouse in a retail box this morning. I ordered with euro charger and it came with an adaptor for UK use (UK charger version was OOS in EU).

I can't comment on quality of the tablet yet as it's still charging.

Don't buy from gearbest, they sent me a broken screen tablet from their UK front company, the infamous "One World Express" gang. Also there was no address on the package, just a postcode. They had hoped it gets lost and I fight yodel. Now they're offering only £13 instead of the £63 they stole. Numerous global victims accounts and on this site too. Rest assured their EU warranty is another lie and con.

I think employing English native speaking causes the same issues and why and wherefore as to why white Europeans dominate the minimum wages in Starbucks, MacDonalds, KFC, fruit pickers, factory packers..etc. So I think a reasonable strategy is to offer minimal or little customer service at half the price compared with a good quality service but at double to thrice the price. One has to sell quite a lot of gear to pay for a "model" native English speaker living in £400,000 flat in London working 9-5 and 20 days annual leave, sick pay for injury for little figure and feeling queasy Monday mornings. (Disclaimer, a "model" native person does not really exist as everyone is different and much harder working and lives in modest housing.)
Lastly, though I am guessing through snippets of experience, the reason why some of these products get to British customers fast and cheaply is because cost is cut to the bone and the goods arrive in UK in warehouses holding stock, there is no customer service locally in UK as such, the goods exit UK warehousing directly from picking straight to customers, namely, in order to cut price and to beat Amazon prices (goods also shipped in bulk from China), the only way is to cut price is to reduce the superb customer service at Amazon. Like it or not it is very tough to compete with Amazon and the only efficiency saving to be had is from the customer service as warehousing costs are at least as much as Amazon's (and Amazon gets local council business rate rebates, subsidy such as having roads built by the council leading to their warehouses).

A few pro and cons

Pro:
- android and windows
- Micro SD slot
- usb option with the converter
- Very light
- Looks good
- Fits in the hand nicely with the longer screen instead of wider screen(compared to other 8" tablets that are wider).
- Screen quality looks great
- Bright screen
- Powerful system. Not noticed any lag what so ever.

Cons:
- Battery life is very poor. 4000Mah doesn't last long. 4 hours max it would last even during light use.
- Sound is pretty bad. Not terrible, but it will most likely be worse then what ever you're currently used to.
-Camera is bad, but does do the job if you really need to use it.
- Dimmest brightness settings is still too bright. Not a big deal, but something to point out.
- Packaging isn't great(no actual box). Contents inside are very well protected though.

I don't mind the cons, as it's only light use, so suits me fine. If you're after something to use quite alot, then i probably would advise you to look elsewhere.

Great for light use, poor for heavy use.

To install windows you'd need wifi usb/usb keyboard/mouse/usb for the operating system/usb hub. I'm presuming you have all those listed above? Majority of people won't, so i totally understand them pre-installing everything.

I do agree a proper box would have been nice, when i opened it up with no real box i was a little surprised, but not that bothered as the tablet was covered properly, and it isn't being used as a gift. Maybe you could buy an empty tabet box from somewhere? Not ideal i know. But if i was buying it for the purpose of a gift i probably would have double checked if it was neatly packaged up before buying(by asking their customer service/asking people on this thread who already have it, ect).

To say the least? This is a budget tablet for £60. What did you expect, apple-type packaging? Had they done so, i bet the cost of the tablet would have gone up £10 or even more. And also, it's only been opened so they can install the operating systems on the tablet. I'm sure you would be more disappointed if you had to install them yourself.

Unless you were hoping to give it to someone as a present i can't see why the packing would concern you, as long as it's in fully working condition.

I will be moving to Win10 at some point. I think everything you need inc tutorials are on this link, or easy enough to find on this site... almost everything you need for the Teclast X98s and X89 PROs:

Hot as in the case or hot as in CPU throttling 'thermal event' warnings?

The CPU is ~30 degrees now and the aluminium case is ever so slightly warm, now, where the Teclast is concerned this is a good thing.

You see, with the back case being metal, it can act as a heat-spreader to move heat from the CPU/GPU etc. I've seen a good few reports of people having CPU heat issues and the backcase not getting warm at all... in these cases the heat from the CPU wasn't being transfered to the back case because the thermal pads weren't there or weren't making contact with the case... it's actually a very simple and cheap mod to fix; there's even a video on YT showing you how to do it. If you've ever put your own CPU cooler in a PC you'll be fine. This particular guy went the extra mile and placed copper shims (£1 off eBay) with thermal compound directly onto the CPU then thermal pad strip on the shielding to make contact with the back case, and he gained a 24% performance increase in games! Of course, once the CPU is cool, it doesn't have to down-clock.

The batch mine came from didn't have that issue and it's the C5J6 model which is the latest one I believe?!?! Maybe it was only earlier batches with that issue. One thing is for sure, the charger is comes with is pathetic and does not supply enough voltage to charge whilst in use so I'm on the hunt for a high AMP fast charging plug and cable... Says 5Volt - 2.5Amp on the back so need something in that range.

I see it on a lot of websites... they both have some 'crude' web astro-turfing practices.

The sad thing is, alls one of them has to do, is provide a 99.9% customer satisfaction service on delivery, returns and refunds.... and they take almost all the custom away from their competition.

I mean, it's so simple I can't believe either of them hasn't thought of it.

DEAR GEARBEST AND BANGGOOD, IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T WORKED IT OUT YET, IN THE UK, EUROPE & THE WEST, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVERYTHING AND THE KEY TO GETTING AND KEEPING CUSTOMERS -- INVEST SOME MONEY IN NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKING STAFF AND ADVISERS, SORT OUT THE POOR ENGLISH ON YOUR WEBSITES, REVERSE ANY BAD EXPERIENCES WITH RETURNS AND REFUNDS AND MAKE THEM A THING OF THE PAST, AND WATCH YOUR PROFITS GROW.

GearBest does not have a UK or EU warehouse. They just use logisitcs companies like flyteexpress and ONeWorldExpress who have a few best seller AND smallish items with JIT system as stated in the Gearbest discussion thread. There are many feedbacks online where they have sent broken items and do not respond to tickets raised. Or often send something that is for example £50 cheaper and only offer £15 as a voucher! These are well known B2B shady practices in such small companies.

It is in your mind because you read "less dishonest" as high praise. But maybe that is just your level of standards. Banggood has many bad feedbacks from people online too, but seems gearbest has even more as I said. Both are dodgy on CR and it is just a punt and simply it seems 5 days delivery for both ATM but a tenner in price difference.

HOWEVER if something is wrong with your item on arrival or shortly after from Banggood, forget about returning them. As most of these Chinese websites, including banggood, make people return items at great cost to China, then claim they did not receive it even if it is signed for. AND Paypal often does not refund even in those cases. Research online before sending anything back to China as they require, since it can cost anything from £20 to £50 typically signed for.

Finally these Chinese websites do not care about individual feedback. Most are based in Shenzen or HongKong. They just go by numbers. Even good ones like GeekBuying who used to have good customer care are now engaged in dodgy practices just like Gearbest and Banggood and the rest and do not give a fig about a good minority of customers who are their victims. They sell millions, mainly to USA Germany UK Russia and Japan, every month. They do not care about feedback anymore, just a numbers game, and they keep growing.

The giant DHGate and even bigger AliExpress which is cheaper than DHG hold your money till you are happy then pay the seller. BUT even they often ask for you to send the dodgy item back at great cost to China and again often they are never acknowledged as received by the seller.

Paypal has become notorious and useless at customer service over the last year or two. If your item is DOA or develops a major problem after a short time, best way to make a claim against all these Chinese companies is via your Credit Card Copmpany, not Paypal. Like I said before I got the broken tablet, all these Chinese buys are basically a gamble, and forget about warranty or returns.

16 Oct 15 #175
Gearbest don't have a UK or EU warehouse, just a dodgy b2b dispatch company with few stocks, often sending broken or cheaper items by mistake and gearbest ignores most victims as numerous feedback testifies. Banggood seems less dishonest.

I got a tablet from GearBest on Wednesday, ordered on Sunday from the EU warehouse. Pretty sure it's UK based just north of London somewhere, no way it came from China in that time. I tracked it all the way. that One World tracking is some kind of aux site, but typing the tracking code into Yodel shows you all the info.

Did you pay with PayPal? Did you buy insured postage for the extra £3?

Basically, yes it's a gamble, it's a double gamble once Yodel are involved, so you need to cover your ar5e as much as you can by paying with PayPal, insuring postage and if you can only order stuff from the EU warehouse which seems to be UK based, unless they have more than one in the EU.

When it finally arrived, screen was shattered.

Opened support ticket with Gearbest, well after a day, still no response. Web searches show they con a lot of money out of people in various ways. They do not have a EU warehouse, it is a shady company called One World Express who sends out these dodgy broken items with no address on the label. Even if it works, there is no one year warranty in reality, just pray it does not break down. Many disaterous feedbacks online about Gearbest, avoid.

If you're only wanting one for browsing, you should have some cheaper options available., especially if you don't mind something smaller like this 8" Chewi tab. I'm only getting the Teclast one to do work on whilst away over Christmas & I too might even sell it on for a smaller 8" tab when I get back - I rarely travel anyway so it might just end up as a dust collector.

After I upgrade it to Win10 and Lollipop 5.0 (or even a better custom ROM if available), get rid of all the Chinese, and maybe even carry out the heatsink mod which stops it getting too hot and even gives a 20% boost in demanding apps, I reckon there'd be no shortage of people on eBay wanting to buy it from me rather than from China! I seriously doubt I'd double my money, but I doubt I'd lose any on it either.

and with 7% coupon or 10% by using the app, it comes down to £55. So it's coming quite close to £10 more from EU, so you're risking saving £9 with the slight risk of paying £17? But it does make sense to be "safe". But people see the heat on this deal and will treat it as a safety blanket, a deal with 80 degrees doesn't have that "safe" factor as a deal with much more heat/comments.

UK customs aren't stupid and they will search / xray all boxes that look like they are carrying tablets, computers and phones. even if seller puts down $20 gift or commercial sample - i listed the same tablet but from gearbest : EU warehouse - but whilst this one is at 880 degrees mine only 48 degrees - cant understand why people are willing to buy from china in order to save £5 and risk getting stung by custom charges. then to pay £64 knowing that this price wont occur customs as warehouse in the EU. there's a rumour that both company's are the same as like on eBay

It's a shame there is no HDMI out. After looking at Mirorcast (another ~£15 accessory) it looks less than ideal for streaming say, iPlayer or Netflix to the TV, although not too bad for things like using MS Office and even streaming media stored on the device doesn't look too bad... It's just an HMDI out would make life a lot easier.

Getting HDMI out means compromising a little on the CPU and screen resolution... I' don't know, they should have left the HDMI out where it was.

I bought my Chuwi hi8 from gearbest and at the same time bought this case to go with it. click here. £4.12 delivered. Fits perfectly, lightweight and embossed with the Chuwi logo on the front. Perfect for holding the tablet in the hand, the magnetised fold up cover stand function works fine on a flat surface but will topple over on something like a bed mattress. The magnetised cover does not auto switch the tablet on and off. Gearbest also do a dedicated one with a stand and keyboard for £11.21 that appears to be good but obvious!y i cannot comment on the quality.

will await loads of buyers on here getting stung by customs - i listed same tablet from eu for a few quid more but no fear of customs as in europe - custom charges are anything over £15 - even if seller sends as a gift - if they are aware of a commercial supplier doing this then charges will still be payable

I occasionally use on-the-go USB adapters for my phone and Nexus 7, but mainly due to micro-usb's fragility I'm looking for full size alternatives when attaching peripherals.

Quite a few tablets actually use full size USB ports, and it doesn't appear to be a dying trend, infact it seems to be growing in popularity, especially among "transforming" tablets (Ones with magnetic / clip on keyboard latching funtionality). The Microsoft surface line is an obvious name when thinking of full size USB, but a lot of other tablets do as well (like the Aspire P3 or Dell venue 11).

I'm on a budget though, so I'm searching within the range of Chinese tablets: The Chuwi VI10 has dual full usb, but only a 768p screen. The Teclast X2 has dual USB 3.0, but is over £200, then there's the Irulu W1000, Voyo A9HD, Jumper EZ Pad 3s, PIPO W3F, etc. etc. All at varying costs and specs, but it seems that about 1/3 of the tablets I'm looking at have at least one full size usb port
Ahuizotl
9 Oct 15 #125
I know that's an option to consider, but I'm not a fan of OTG adapters or hubs. It makes plugging peripherals in take longer, it gets in the way more, unless you carry around multiple OTG adapters you're likely to find yourself without one if you're travelling, and lastly micro-USB is relatively fragile compared with full size USB: I've had several close encounters with almost damaging the port when I've had larger, heavier peripherals plugged into an OTG adapter, whereas it's never happened when using a simple charging cable.

Im really tempted to get one of these but a bit worried about extra costs. Also I've read several companies sell them such as gearbest and banggood and aliexpress etc, which one is the best to buy from?

I'll take cheaper prices , USB out, HDMI out, flash player, third party downloads, micro SD slot options instead of that "premium service".

Who REALLY cares if something is 30g lighter then a rival, or 0.01mm thinner, with "premium metals". The end user won't feel the benefits compared to the ones i listed above.

I believe most have an iPad because they are unaware of the other options. And there is people who bought an iPad when it was the only tablet on the market, so have stuck with it because that's what people tend to do.
topazz
9 Oct 15 2 #117
Steady on sunshine, I quoted the iPad because it has the lions share of the tablet market. Apple's hardware and software has been endlessly polished to make the customer experience intuitive, easy to learn and painless. In my experience, iPad owners, many of whom are far brainier than i am, are simply not interested in messing about fixing bugs and delving into operating systems etc. They want a fully sorted, premium device with excellent support and are happy to pay a premium price for it. In contrast, the chinese cheapies offer superb value but can be a bit rough round the edges. They don't even pretend to offer a superior customer experience (e.g. the shortage/absence of customer support) and IMO they appeal to a very different sort of customer. One who is willing to take an element of risk and is interested in tinkering about with electronic devices. So, my earlier post was simply aimed at helping to manage expectations.

Really tempted by this, but if I'm going to buy a windows tablet I'd prefer it to have full size USB ports.

Can anyone recommend a cheap tablet that hass full size USB, or point me in the direction of a site that lets enter usb ports as a search criteria when narrowing down windows tablets?
MadeInBeats to Ahuizotl
9 Oct 15 #115
I doubt any tablets come with full size USB ports any more. Simple matter of buying the adapter mini USB to full size USB... and I think this comes with that any way, so no need to buy separate.

EDIT. it comes with said adaptor as shown in the pictures, so you will be able to use all your normal sized USB devices with no issues or extra expense.

The 10" one in the link you sent me?

I'm looking to get one for work whilst in Spain over Christmas... I'll be using Dreamweaver and maybe light use of Photoshop... Do you think the 8" would be practical enough for that in your experience (just watched your video review of the 8").

I may have access to an HD TV and Chromecast so that might negate any screen size issues, but just in case; what do you reckon? I mean, the price of the 8" compared to the 10" is massive, and if I could get away with 8" for two weeks until I get back home, I could just do that!

I would be using a bluetooth K/M as well btw.

Buy Bluetooth headphones (Soundpeats QY-7 are excellent) or a simple BT audio adapter (e.g. Bluedio 200) if you already have decent earphones and then you won't get interference, or risk of getting caught on the cord and garroting yourself - not that I've ever done that.

i listed these details on here yesterday but people didnt take any notice - logically i thought people would pay the little extra knowing that their tablet wouldnt be siezed by customs and that they would get it quicker - i purchased on today via gearbest / paypal - conversion rates of exchange meant that it actually cost £63.85 ( from EU ) not this advertised £ 59.44 from china - a difference of £ 4.41 - i know im having a better deal as should get this on weds next week without the fear the postman will hand me a card for custom charges. gearbest is great for good gadgets at great prices - spent loads with them over the last few months - good watches and stubled across this tablet - good features and will be good for holidays etc

Had one of these a few months. Excellent value, decent build quality and great spec for the money. Not a bad word to say about it. These chinese cheapies are a good way of getting high specs at bargain prices but generally speaking the integration of hardware and software is less polished than perhaps you are used to from the established top electronics brands. You need to be a bit adventurous and possess a modicum of computer savvy to sort out the inevitable bugs and wrinkles as official support will be negligable to non-existent. All the people i know with iPads would probably give up at the first hurdle of changing the language from chinese to english.
