I like btwin bikes to be honest. Few things going on with this one. Exclusive to decathlon so it's bound to be the best/lowest price whatever the offer. The fact that it's 21% of surely makes it a deal. Take bike snobbery out of it and for sure this is a deal. Remember the triban 3 red? Voted extremely hot in here and yes a btwin too.

Check the specs and compare to the market... How can this not be a deal?

Lovely bike. TEMPTED to splash out. Any opinions on sizing for a 5 foot 11 rider? I'm thinking it's the 59cm model.

Campag Athena is broadly equivalent to Ultegra in terms of position in their range? If so, not sure this deal is any better than a carbon bike with ultegra you could get from say planet x.
Campag Khamsin wheels are pretty low rent too.
Ok deal if you are determined to have campag as opposed to SRAM or Shimano.

I don't know a lot about bikes but I can appreciate it must be much nicer to ride one which is light and efficient instead of my dodgy rusty one. Thing is though if it cost 1400 what do you do with it when you get to where you're going?

My friend had one that cost 250 and he locked it outside Sainsburys, only there about 10 minutes but some scrote had it.

Nice bike and a good price but if I was dropping £1100 on a bike I'd want a branded bike. You could call it snobbery but really it's about feeling good about what you're riding, also a branded bike would hold its value better when it comes to selling on.

I'd rather pay that much on a car rather than a pedal bike. I mean what's the difference between that bike and a bike that is worth 100 ? Apart from it being light weight other than that not alot.

I think it's more like 105. Since Campag binned off xenon and centaur, Athena is now second rung up, above veloce. It's more than likely still lighter than 105 though.

£1100 seems a bit much for a decathlon bike with mid to low-end components. You can buy a ludicrous amount of bike for £1000 now. Planet X have their pro carbon with Rival 22 (not sure what wheels) for £850 at the mo. That'd probably be a better punt.

I can only see the point of spending a £1k on a bike if you are travelling serious mileage or competing regularly. I have been running about in bottom of the range road bikes for about 35 years, commute maybe 50% of the year, weekend hill climbs and occasional trips. Apart from predictable punctures it has been pretty incident free. Getting a more "efficient" machine will only reduce the effort and therefore make you fatter !

I actually ride a bike to work but still cant c why u would want to pay that much for a bike.

I commute to work everyday by a bike I bought for £40 through eBay. It is not a great bike but it still helps me ride about 12 miles a day. The deal mentioned here is great, unfortunately I am yet to be blessed to afford this much

Those saying "Why spend so much on a bike?" ask your self the same question about something you like (eg food, beer, wine, clothes, hifi, cars). Do you always just buy the cheapest item you can find or do you buy the thing(s) that fit(s) your needs, tastes and budget at the best price you can? We don't all aspire to drive Reliant Robins and eat beans on toast every day. For people in the market for a real road bike, capable of racing, at a decent price this is a bargain. If that's not you why comment at all?

you can travel with more ease and therefore less effort. Put a heart rate monitor on and do a 10 mile hill climb on a 7kg carbon and then a 20kg mountain bike.
