With the release of Windows 10 a lack of touch screen on laptops isn't really an issue IMO - all personal preference however. :smile:
With any politics, marketing and public relations the most sad and dangerous are what is left out in their blurb, the so called economical with the truth and the art of saying lots of sound bites which have no actual delivery of action or benefits. Back to topic, this is a great price and the core M fanless CPU is great as I got a similar unit for more money, Dell Latitude 7350. I find backlit keyboard most useful in a dim lit area plus touch screen adds to faster actions and convenience. The specs does say it has backlit keyboard.

I was considering this laptop when it was first out.
Then I got a Dell XPS 13 9333 with i7 and 256GB SSD for £400.
But for £600 this is great. £100 cashback is a add on.
I tried them in John Lewis the last time. It is thinner than any other 13 inch, and very lightweight too. The build quality is good as all Zenbook are.
I like the screen is matte. I do not like glossy. However, my XPS 13 is glossy. The colour is better on XPS 13.
backlit keyboard would be better. The feel/touch on the Zenbook keyboard is not great, they just feel like a normal laptop with short depth. The XPS 13 keyboard feels much better.

this is a great little thing. I bought this in Thailand the other month for about £330 brand new with 1 year international warranty
4gb ram and 256gb ssd. no complaints. like someone else said I dont know how it can be so expensive here compared to everywhereelse

It's not clock speed that you should be looking at given the market segment that this thin / light laptop sits in. It's the 4.5W power draw, 9hr battery, the fact that it's thin, light, aluminium and ultra portable, and silent (fanless).

You have the option to turn all of the things you refer to off when installing, and I imagine they can be switched off later if missed.

In short, you will be forced to download it, you will eventually be forced to install it, there is no way to actually disable the privacy nightmare from phoning home and these privacy intrusions are being backported to previous windows versions.

I'm with weltysparrow on this one. I'm not fooled when something is offered for "free" with some shiny baubles added. It amazes me how so many people don't seem to care about Microsoft allowing helping themselves to all this information. As the product is shiny and free the masses don't care about anything else.

They had a file on every person in their states and if it any moment you decided to do something against the party line you would get a knock at the door. The least that would happen would be threats of release of sensitive information, the worst would be you and your family to the gulag.
Both those organisations had nowhere near even 1% of the information on their populations compared to what these corporations have now.

I agree with you, I have recently bought the new 12" MacBook that is a Core M, fanless etc. I was primarily pointing out that not only Apple know how to charge for these things.

Installed windows 10 on a 4 year old sony vaio (ssd so performance is good, it's just the laptop looking and sounding worse for wear with all the use its had).
Thought I'd try windows 10 as I was on 7 (8 was worse than dog ****), 10 is massively improved in my opinion, but I've thrown in the towl and ordered a top spec mac mini. Goodbye soul. Spent all weekend in a Currys megastore trying out laptops, the money it costs for the better spec windows laptops there is noway I'd spend it on one when macbooks even the air, makes them look rubbish. (my opinion)

These things may seem paranoid now because no one is overtly acting on them. Until of course we enter into another panic about "national security" and "terrorism" and governments decide anyone they don't like the look of can be chucked on a plane and sent off for torture. I suppose that may be OK because it only happened to muslims though.
They are building 1984, all someone has to do at some point is flip the switch to turn it on, and it will all be in the name of protecting you.

The specifications and reviews I have seen all stated no backlit.
It is a refurbished with no operating system. The one I received is quite new, cannot see any marks.
It was priced as £325 + delivery + VAT = £402
